the answer to this question is simple. If he waives his PO making him an expiring contract the Knicks agree to waive him. They wont pay him the $50mm+ but if things get tight they will cave on one year.

He can take a buy out right now and walk. Im sure Melo wants more than less. As I said, nobody wants Anderson because they know the longer they wait the more they can get Morey to pay.

Can he waive the player option now? Regardless, that would mean he can't get a big contract next year in Houston. So I don't see that happening.

I agree...I just don't think anyone is that stupid...even teams that may want him as a stretch 4 will say they need sweeteners to do the deal....
if the rockets say no, that's great!!! their offer is junk.
Then Melo will have to pick another team we can ship him off too.

If Melo declined his player option for next year and offered to buy out this year for a $1, I think Mills would say yes. I mean, how could you say no?
I realize the chances of Melo doing that are slightly less than 0...
Get the feeling this deal would have been done already if Noah and his contract weren't around. The two of them would be taking up a big part of the cap (Noah and Anderson) if they were both were on the roster.
Best case scenario if Melo isnt moved this summer, he comes back in great shape. Some good teams find that they need more firepower and come up with a better offer. If Melo is playing well, staying healthy, Perry should be in a better position to bargain.
The same goes for Noah, harder to move, but if he comes back relatively healthy amd playing well, a contender might be interested. Ways to go before we get to that point though.

Melo is healthy. He stays in shape. He does video's. He finished the season healthy. There is little problem there. Its the NTC.
As for Noah, best situation is he comes back healthy and can be moved.
Even better? We field a team "MElo or Not" and have chemistry with a healthy Noah and the team compete for the playoffs!!!!
The notion of a tank is a savior desire that a single player can save us. Don't get me wrong, thats not a terrible think and if the team is not up to this level
