What happens next?
Next: I hope it's a Melo trade that gets us picks
But: It may well be Kyrie trade that loses picks
If we end up with Kyrie/THJR backcourt, KP is good as gone in two years. There's no way he will be the focus of the offense. So there are choices to be made risks to be traded off, basically they have the assets and the timing for a full reset. What they'll do is anybody's guess.

About the Kyrie/THJr backcourt... if KP leaves because he's not the focal point Then we should trade him now. The days of getting a singular savior franchise guy is over. KP "liked" a pic with with Kyrie in a Knicks jersey one instagram. That's need in the world ww live in now. So KP probavly would love the opportunity to play with Kyrie. The potential of that crew would be fun to watch.... also tough to match up with especially if Hornacek does his thing and everyone buys in.

IDK - Rose said he would be "honored" to play with Melo and KP, their behaved like one of them didn't exist. Can't read that much into s Instagram "like"

Melo would need to understand that the team around him needs to develop and they need to play active defense. Ball movement. He starts at 4, but would have a minutes restriction of about 28. Rest of his minutes at 4, go to KP. KP plays 5 and 4. Willy comes off the bench. We did this last year a few games.
At some point Melo is moving on. For the mean time nothing wrong with having more talent and less load on KP, Willy, Frank. The main hurdle is THj. Can't see him maximize his potential with Melo. Melo's not a bad dude. I can't see him tank. I think he will give a decent honest effort. He knows his trade value will not improve unless he plays well. Knicks will make it clear by that point, they aren't trading him for Ryan Anderson and a draft pick. I think at some point up until trade deadline, we get a better deal from Houston or another team.
ryan anderson + lots of picks to cleveland, melo to houston, kyrie to knicks
But I dont see him in that same light.

I made a thread about that and fell prey to the UK firing squad. It's one thing if there was a trade to be made, but no ist wants Ryan Anderson. The teams that are rumored to be the 3rd and 4th teams in a trade all would rather take a shot at getting Melo than helping a rival. I dont blame them.
It for nothing, The Knicks are conducting business as they should. Conservative and sticking to the new plan.

Shawn Long, Tim Quarterman and Isaiah Taylor are still non-guaranteed chips on Houston’s roster.

Instead of doing a bad trade I rather keep Melo and trade him at the deadline if he or a team becomes desperate. If we can't trade him at the deadline he will probably decline his option next year and leave anyway. So we won't be stuck with another teams bad contracts.
