Fortunately Bleacher Report hasn't executed one single NBA trade and similar to free agency you only need one team to pull the trigger if they want someone bad enough.
arkrud @ 8/1/2017 3:30 PM
I think it is fair assessment.
Molo value for the Knicks is 0.
Melo value for OKC or Rockets can be huge.
So the trade should account for both facts and meet in the middle.
This is not clear since, rather the art of trading.
CrushAlot @ 8/1/2017 3:33 PM
The 10-time All-Star added more value as a spot-up shooter than in any other situation last year, accruing 1.23 points per possession and sitting in the 93.8 percentile. Put him in the right spot, where he can focus his efforts on supporting other sterling offensive contributors—Chris Paul and James Harden or Paul George and Russell Westbrook, maybe?—and he'll recoup plenty of what he's lost during the last few years in the Big Apple.
Imagine if he played with a point guard that set him up for shots. I believe he was fourth in spot up shooting for small forwards last year playing with DRose, Jennings/Baker. I think Houston is the perfect spot for him.

Exactly. This what I argue with Bonn about. This is why the greatest mover and shaker in the league Daryl Morey cant trade for Melo because he's got Ryan Anderson's great deal that king metric himself gave out.

I agree Melo's value is not astronomical. So lets move onto the other guys who have similar skill sets but are better value. Oh wait... there arent any. So while its easy to say "no way Melo is worth 2 first rounder, or this player or that" who's plan B? who are the other impact guys just waiting to be added to your team?

This is why these contracts are given out. There are very few perfect fits, and even good fits are so costly. Anderson is actually a high impact guy for the Rockets, but that deal is abysmal.

There are not a lot of options out there right now that move the needle. For a team like the Rockets Melo really does move the needle.

Knicks are being smart. With Sessions in there I think they can plan for Melo to be in camp and ready to go. What will be REALLY interesting is if Jeff goes with 3 guards or Lance at the 3 and Melo at the 4. No Noah to start and KP/Willy or KOQ/Melo is a slow frontcourt of the style Jeff (we think) wants to play. Let the drama play out :)

agree... if you can see upside in his game in a different role with different players you dont follow the game. Less work on offense, more energy on D and getting open. Tons of open jumpers and guys to pass too... time will tell.

Wait, what is it you argue with me about??
EnySpree @ 8/1/2017 4:42 PM
They keep talking about Melos trade value but Paul George and Cousins got traded for peanuts... even Chris paul got traded for bullshit...... but Melo had no trade value? Sounds like hating to me.

They just put out an article on what teams had the worst offseason. They gave the first spot to the Knicks. You are right, it is hate. I think the Knicks have had a very good offseason. A reasonable Melo trade and it will be an excellent offseason.
GustavBahler @ 8/1/2017 7:17 PM
No shortage of contenders and playoff teams vying for his services, even at this stage in his career. He isn't the same mobile big anymore, but Melo will always have that stroke.

?? From article you posted:

"Realistic Value, Realistic Return: Oklahoma City Thunder trade Alex Abrines, Doug McDermott, Enes Kanter and two future second-round picks to the New York Knicks for Carmelo Anthony"

What's not pretty? If Knicks sit tight, they will get a decent return from Houston as well.

The right role is the key. The Knicks have always asked him to be the guy creating, passing, scoring. Think he is best suited for a catch and shoot guy in the mid range. But you need a good guard for that. Paul would be perfect for him.

There are endless Knick haters for sure and lots of Melo detractors as well and I am one. I'd trade him for a sandwich. But the article is real in that it shows unless he fits in a team (Like Houston or Cleveland - where his lack of speed, athleticism and no defense isnt required, and he can just stop and pop 20 minutes a night, his value has dropped like a rock.

Very good offeason? Overpaying Tim Hardaway Jr by 15 million , giving him a trade kicker which is unreal for a player which isnt a proven starter, and giving a scrub like Ron Baker 4 million a year is very good.

you or anyone else has zero evidence to back this. Melo has a NTC so there is no way to gauge what his value is. If 25 teams could make an offer and nothing got done there might be more data worth a discussion. Right now its the Rockets who have incredibly limited options to add Melo. There is nothing to write about, so might as well make stuff up.

You overpay for restricted free agents and put things in their deal that make it hard for the team they are leaving to match. The Knicks got the guy they targeted. He isn't old, and injury prone. Several posters have posted data/info indicating Hardaway is getting paid right around what he should be. The amount of money in the Baker deal doesn't make sense.

that poster is pretty cranky about everything the Knicks do.

Knicks had a good offseason.

Knicks have a mixed to not so good history of overpaying free agents or taking on bad contracts in the past.
The process of that is assumed to be extrapolated into the present and future despite numerous regime changes.
Thus, "everything we do is bad".
Yet every new day is a different opportunity? History has not basis on the future unless the conditions and thought process remains the same?
What did we do? We drafted a kid who had been a disappointment and figured out that if he is to remain in the league and succeed, he needs to listen and take care of his body and be "a professional".
His father is a former all star player. The kid might have been stubborn or arrogant.
He was a big player for ATL last season and showed he belongs. In a contract year. All players are suspect when they play up.
So we paid a bit on potential. In the past, we paid for past porformance.
In this case I can't complain because we have not put a uniform on the new and improved THjr and seen him as a knick. We just go on moopying around as if Timmy was the same dude 2 years ago.
Baker is seen by the knicks (that failed franchise we never can do right??)as good player with still some upside. What we don't know is what kind of money was thrown at him by other teams that tried to nab him from us.
So basically if we let him go, we mope. If we pay him, same thing. We developed a kid who got better and better and we complain when its time to pay him? A free agent?

So lets instead root for these guys and see how they do before we complain. shouldn't we be happy we did not sign Rudy Gay? trade for Dwade? Other retread blunders of players with their best days behind them?
IM happy Baker got paid. The kid was solid!

Outside looking in, we had one of the worst off season I could remember.

1)Our best young player skipped the exit meeting to start things off
2)fired our President and failed to replace him with some one better
3)Killed the value of our best player in melo
4)promoted a front office guy who was responsible for the losing culture
5)drafted a injured player (but has potential we hope)
6)signed 3 below avg(at their positions) players to ridiculous contract, THJ, Baker, sessions
7)Let holiday(our best wing player) walk without even a phone call
8)And still have not traded melo, and from the looks of it, that wont be happening

perry signing was the only decent thing that's happen this summer

1. Exit meeting, we talking exit meeting. Has things been healed?
2. Yes, mills is a better president Phil because Perry is a better GM than Mills.
3. Killed the value of Melo? how? By announcing he is to be traded and has a NTC? His value was dead three years ago.
4. This statement is the same as number 2. Mills was not responsible for losing culture. It was here before Mills and PHil were hired. Dolan owns the team.
5. Frank has a bruised Knee and he just finished playing in the finals of the french league. Your being a drama queen on this one!!!!
6. Its all relative to what they do this season. Sessions not over paid. He is the right guy for the job. We developed Baker. THJ is about his potential and his play the last 30 games of last season.
7. Holiday was our best wing?
8. More redundant Knicks1248 drama queen moping.
