I guess right now the team will be in holding pattern until there is an end game with Melo. We do have slot#17 to fill

Don't think we see Randle as a guy that has the spot for sure. He will have to earn it at camp, compete against others for it.
But this is pre-Melo trade. There is no way a Melo trade will be a 1 for 1. Most likely we get 1 for 2 or 3. or 2 for 3 or 4. So we will need to make some moves or cut some players after a Melo trade, if it happens.

Kornet has a two way deal. Counting Randle, the Knicks are at 16. Hoops hype didn't have details on Randle's contract. I don't know how much is guaranteed or if there is a guarantee date.
Herman's article today says the knicks have 14 guys under contract and one two way contract. Randle's deal must not be guaranteed.
