Both Hill and Smith were critical of them speaking out on their sportscenter show. Weird that Hill all of a sudden is so outspoken, when not so long ago she criticized those who were far less critical of a member of this administration.

I liked Hill and Smith better when they had their own show, less corporate. ESPN tries to milk everything.

Are you sure he was referencing the movie? He was the governor of Indiana, the "Hoosier" state. He references the "Hoosiers", a term used to refer to the people of Indiana, in many speeches. I don't think he is referencing the movie each time.

"ESPN is trying to milk everything", I think that sums up this thread pretty well. They are making it very clear what they choose to "milk". It is their right of course, but once again, the public does not have to buy it. I think that Cohn is right and they are not.

Feel free to look into it yourself.....

Ok, so you are referring to Pence calling the movie, Hoosiers, the greatest Sports movie of all time. That was when he seemed to be "lost" on the film's message?

I admit, I missed this. But then again, who would care? Pence thinks a movie about sports in Indiana is the best of all time. Unbelievable.

That wasn't so hard was it? Not as tough I guess as comprehending that my comment had little to do with Pence.

Ha! I can't say I am surprised I had a hard time, considering your extraordinary writing talents.

So how is this comment "little to do with Pence" and what gives the idea that Pence was lost on the theme? I don't see where he stated why he thinks that about the movie.

VP Pence a while back brought up a "Hoosiers" reference. Some of the folks involved with the film reminded Pence that the film contained a message of inclusion that seemed to be lost on him.

Im sure you can find a bunch of posters here who will gladly get into a circular discussion with you, Im not one of them.

You really want to understand what I said, dont leave out the part that will answer your question. Read the entire post. Stop making it all about fing Pence.

OK Gotcha. THanks for the discussion. Have a great day.

He was elected last I checked and from those in urban environs like NY Chicago and many more, he was elected accross the country not the cities or the progressive media that denounces him daily. Fire her.

The same folks who believe Trump is a racist demagogue will again be shocked when the country reelects him.

Well, the country really didn't "elect" him. Close to three million more people voted for his opponent. The electoral college got him in office. So essentially land mass elected him.

The margin of victory for Hillary in California alone was 4.3 million votes. Across the entire country, the President, DJT, lost by about 2.9 Million votes.

So, in the rest of the country, If we discount California all together, DJT won by both popular vote (1.4M) and electoral college (304-172).

The majority of votes that you and many others use, came from one heavy Democratic state. This is done, IMO, to claim some sort of supremacy for HRC when she in fact, lost the election based on how the actual results are determined. (304-227). Not really by the skin of his teeth.

IN baseball, a game is won by the team that scores the most runs at the end of the game, NOT by the team that has the most hits.

What??!!!! Here's a better analogy, in baseball a game is won by the team that scores the most runs (votes), not the team who won the most innings (states). For example:

Inning......Yankees.....Redsox
1..............0...........1
2..............0...........1
3..............5...........1
4..............0...........1
5..............3...........1
6..............4...........1
7..............0...........1
8..............0...........1
9..............0...........1
Total.........12..........9

So if we used the electoral college system in baseball, the Red Sox won the game because they won the most innings 6 to 3. Of course (to use your California example) if we just disregarded the third inning the Red Sox scored the most runs. Yeah, sounds like an excellent way to determine the winner of a baseball game.

If I may--I think what Donald trump was saying there was that there are good people who dont want the statues to come down. They dont need to stand with the KKK or any of these groups but are included in the side that did not want to see the destruction of the statues. Also--the "other side" violence is real. The "antifa" group among others is a violent group. The unfortunate loss of life was caused by a group that should get 0 coverage--this whole thing couldve been avoided if they left it to the police. Why is it that so many people have to translate what Trump says like he's movie requiring subtitles?

It may pain you to do so but this country is a republic.

306 Trump to 232 Clinton.

Espn is owned by Disney. Trumps immigration policies negatively affect their bottom line. Therefore anti-Trump rhetoric is encouraged not disciplined. Espn is no different than the rest of the fake news media and the politicians who lost the election. It hasn't even been a year. What happened when Trump wins again

Regardless of politics, its a business. If she's a liability economically for the company she gotta go. It is very rare for a company to stick its neck out for an employee exercising their free speech if it hurts their bottomline regardless of how valid or invalid their point may be.

And "America" never fought for us to say whatever we want to say and keep our jobs. They fought to prevent the government from controlling free speech. Has nothing to do with companies firing people for making comments that hurt their business.

Trump wants her fired. But its cool for him to claim Birtherism and wiretapping. And she is more accurate then he ever was.

My brother brought up a good point that her base of younger more liberal viewers and ESPN in general most likely side with her views. So she may not much of a hit. They may be playing into the hands of their core audience regardless.

There is free speech and there is defamation.
If someone make bold statement like this he/she should understand the consequences.
She should be happy that there is no legal action against her.
Media can present facts and comment on them but has no right to hang labels on people.
This is up to audience how to perceive the information provided by media and make their own judgement.
If some media organization is biased it is not news provider but rather propaganda.
What political propaganda has to do with sports?

The burden of proof for a libel suit in this case is way narrower than anything that's been presented, as far as I can tell anyway. Not the biggest Hill fan, but my understanding of her work is she is commentary writer, not a "beat" reporter or anchorwoman. I don't think anyone is being mislead into thinking she's blurring the lines between news and opinion.

Why wasn't Trump fired from the Apprentice when he called Obama a racist? Why wasn't there any legal action against him for calling the then president a racist? Trump is a hypocrite!

She was acting presidential.....Give her a raise!

The fact that this is a thread....in a basketball forum is the only thing I see wrong. Andrew and Martin have done a great job with adding separate fields for political discussions such as this.

Ive seen Trump do and say and negatively impacted multiple races....and negatively set back this country for years.....Give her a raise for speaking out.....Using the same platform Trump uses when he's tweeting about building a wall......but doesn't do anything with the racial tension he created and the division within the country.

You know when Trump is doing bad......When an all white group is formed......aimed at bigots and racist who supports trump......using force. What's even funnier is Trump himself is an immigrant. And white vs black is not a race......but an attempt to divide and oppress the majority. That's the only way the minority could control the country after coming over illegalTrump.

If the Idians built a wall sooner......There is not trump.....If they the Indians or whoever settled here first had a travel ban.....There is no Trump. Instead of being humble and respect your history.....This idiot acts like he owns the country.

Aenyway.....give her a raise for her bravery. Enough is enough already....Hes got to go! Now when this thread moves to it's proper place I might entertain it. Meanwhile what's the updates on the knicks?

ESPN was consistent. Schilling for example had made comments that ESPN did not approve of and he was suspended and warned. He then went on to post more sensitive things on Social Media and THEN they fired him.

Schilling, who had worked for the network since 2010 and most recently offered analysis on “Monday Night Baseball,” was dismissed after sharing a Facebook post this week that appeared to respond to the North Carolina law that bars transgender people from using bathrooms and locker rooms that do not correspond with their birth genders.

The post showed an overweight man wearing a wig and women’s clothing with parts of the T-shirt cut out to expose his breasts. It says: “LET HIM IN! to the restroom with your daughter or else you’re a narrow-minded, judgmental, unloving racist bigot who needs to die.”

To that, Schilling added: “A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.”

It was the latest in a number of commentaries by Schilling on social media that have drawn controversy. He was suspended for a month after he posted a comment on Twitter in August that compared radical Muslims to Nazis.
