He doesn't pass, and his defense is horrible. He is very efficient at scoring and rebounding though. This is why OKC reduced him to a 20min man off the bench to maximize his skill set.

He's not a good fit with KP. We need to move him and try to open up cap space.

Why isn't he a good fit? He fits similarly to how Willy fits. Big inside game that opens up the perimeter for KP and everyone else. His Rodman-like rebounding is something that will definitely take the pressure off of KP who is light in that department.
Kanter doesn't even avg 1 ast, doesn't draw doubles
Westbrook has the ball 100% of the time in that offense. Kanter or anybody for that matter gets the ball and needs to shoot it so Westbrook can get the assist

It has been his game since he played for Utah. He will score and rebound at a high rate but that's it. Good for the bench. The good thing about him is that he is really really efficient at what he is good at.

Ok, what about his tenure in Utah where the coaching staff begged Kanter to pass the ball more? The dude just doesn't like to pass. No problem. He's still useful, just not as a starter.

His per 36 has him averaging 6.7 free throws a game, double Willy's per 36.

Willy has more potential for an all around offensive game.

Then again Kanters story is very similar to Isaiah Thomas if you just look it from stats. Defensive liability, supper efficient offensively. Isaiah brought his game to star levels.

But odds are Kanter will just get good numbers on bad teams unless the team is built around his weaknesses.

What a terrible trade but he did have to go because..

A source did say he was jealous of J.Lin
A source did say he can't play in Mike D'antoni system
A source did say he hated the KP draft pick
A source did say he didn't want to run the Triangle
A source did say he committed adultery and knocked some stripper up (what did ever happen with that?)
A source did say he wanted out of New York
A Source did say he only wanted to play with Chris Paul or L. James

Good luck C. Anthony..these fickle fans didn't deserve you.

and good luck to K. Porzingis!! Your shield is now gone and the spotlight is on you now.

Yes but now KP has a guy in Kanter that's tough as nails on the boards and scores efficiently on the inside, which opens up his outside game.

CrushAlot @ 9/23/2017 4:30 PM
ESPN is projecting the Bulls to win 28-29 wins. Last year that record got you pick 34 in the draft(Frank Mason).
smackeddog @ 9/23/2017 4:32 PM
Kanter does look ridiculously ripped- put a lot of effort into losing body fat this offseason- just look at the third video:

What about the Wiz? Seem kind of thin after Gortat. Dont know what picks they could give up though. Havent had any first round picks for a few years, I believe.

What about Kanter to DAL for Dwight Powell?

P.S., I'm not a fan of this trade if we can't off load Kanter.

WaltLongmire @ 9/23/2017 5:04 PM
Have never been a fan of Kanter because of his D and passing issues, but he's a very good offensive big man and can mix it up on the boards.

If he does not work out for us...or even if he does, I could easily see him commanding a 1 Rnd pick and more at the trade deadline. On the right team, he could have a significant impact as an offensive minded center.

I see him ending up on a serious contender after the trade deadline.

GustavBahler @ 9/23/2017 5:07 PM
At least we are getting players who can provide some scoring off the bench from inside and outside. More live bodies to throw out there. Its not like we're getting scrubs, retreads.
This team has been more snake bitten than most when it comes to injuries. Players like Kanter and McDermott can fill in without there being a drop in scoring. Defense is another matter, but too often the Knicks have gotten players in these big deals who dont excel at either. Nothing to throw a party over, but that and no Ryan Anderson contract. I'll take it.

Kanter's deal doesnt run any longer than Melo's so Im happy about that. You never know, maybe Kanter works out in NY. I like Powell, dont know how Dallas feels about Kanter. He does know the West.

Kanter's deal doesn't run longer than Melo's but I think it will be difficult to unload him to a different team. The center market is so saturated, that starting caliber bigs are available for little more than cap space. So IMO, cap space is more valuable than Kanter at this point. Whereas Melo is still a guy that can tilt the balance for a title contending team. This deal is only "okay" because we are the Knicks and could have fucked this up even more- like you implied.

Uptown @ 9/23/2017 5:29 PM
For those complaining about this trade...well, what did you expect to get back for the 64th best player in the NBA?

Agree. For all the waiting the deal is kind of crappy.

At least he is gone.

Kantner is ok. McDermott will fit in Jeff’s systems

No 1st pick? Bad!!!

Agreed. 1st would have made this a bit more palatable.

franco12 @ 9/23/2017 5:32 PM
I think you guys are all sleeping on Kanter. If we didn't have Noah, I think we'd be in great shape in our front court.

I mean, you march KP & Willy out to start the game, then bring Kanter in.

Those are three legit bigs with skills that can score the ball.

I like our balance now.

fitzfarm @ 9/23/2017 5:33 PM
If anything this is addition by subtraction, melo had to go. I’ve never seen a player kill team chemistry like melo everyone said the right thing when he was on the team. Now seriously, everyone must be throwing a party on the knicks! Good riddance!

KP is such a dominant prospect the sooner he takes the role of the man, the sooner he realizes he is unstoppable.

If the knicks suck this year, we get a chance at doncic!

If we are good, kp gets to the playoffs, gets to see what MSG is like when it comes alive ! KP will want to stay forever!

Trade is ok we added much needed bench depth and we got rid of our melodrama

Everyone breath and let’s get back to basketball!

Love how Espn gives Thunder a A for the trade just shows how stupid they are

As I said in another post about Melo, you never know when a contender is going to be thin at a certain position. You're right, there is a glut of centers out there, but Kanter's scoring punch might be attractive to a team that has dealt with some bad luck with their bigs.

Look at what the Cavs gave up for Mozgov. Not saying we will get a couple of first round picks for Kanter, but you never know what a playoff team will do when they get desperate.

Im just glad that Kanter brings something to the table, maybe he ends up filling an important role. You never know. KP has dealt with his share injuries in the past, and you never know how long Noah will hold up.

When did Melo ever look like this?

When did Kanter ever play like Melo?

When did Melo ever have a WS48 of .200 (for three years no less)? When did Melo ever average 5 offensive rebounds a game per 36? When did he shoot with an efficiency rating of 60%?

You are comparing a future Hall of Famer with a lot of miles on him, to a bench player who hasnt been in the league nearly as long. Im glad this is all over too, but comparing these two players is weak. When Kanter's muscles gets him into an All-Star game, a scoring title, MVP finalist, Multiple Olympic Gold medals, then we'll talk.
