A couple of options.
1-Go small and with a 3 guard lineup. Lee at the 2, Hardaway at the 3.
2-Start the best defender, and 3nD guy in Lance Thomas. But can Lance stay healthy?
3-Go with potential to improve, and abilty to go off as a scorer. Start McDermott. He can flat out shoot the ball and would be a great catch and shoot player in Hornachek's offense.
4-Kuz. Averaged 15 points a game as starter last season.

Beasley is a 4, isn't he? Last few years that's been his position.
I know he lost weight, but I don't see Beasley as a starting 3.
Then if you factor KP is our 4 with the 2 headed monster at Center of Kanter/Willy, I can't really see Beas be our starting 3.
I think McDermott, Kuzminskas or Lance Thomas should start at 3. They have the size for the positin and the catch and shoot skill we need.
Beasley should be a go to scorer off the bench.

This is easily the weakest part of the team. I was hoping we would get a plug and play young SF like Harkless. For now Lance Thomas is probably the best pure SF on the team, Lee is probably the best player we could start at the 3 but it would severely weaken our bench. I would start Lance as he is the best defensive option and allows for a more fluid 2nd unit.
Pg is a tough place to figure out as well, I have no idea who starts.
C Kanter
PF Porzingis
SF Lance Thomas
Sg Hardaway jr
pg
C Willy / Noah
PF Beasley / O'Quinn
SF Mcdermott / kuz
SG Lee
pg
Go with Lee or Thomas. We need a 3 and D type player. Ideally, we eventually fill that position with a better version of Thomas, if the long-term plan is Ntilikina and Hardaway in the backcourt, and KP and Willy/Kanter in the frontcourt.
We are prob gonna trade for mo harkless somehow during the season.
I think L Thomas gets the nod but I really want to see either Kuz or McDermott surprise us and take that spot.
Thomas, if he's healthy. Been a while since we've seen that. When he is on his game, LT is all over the court, making hustle plays. Was showing a really nice game, before the injuries piled on.
Would be fearful of Beasley's D at the 3, but we will have to wait and see.
I would be happy to be proven wrong about him, though. Harder for a player his age to turn around an aspect of his game, but who knows. I see him more of a 4 in a smaller, offensively minded lineup, where KP is at the 5 and THJ is at the 3, but who knows what will happen.

he's your classic tweener... part of the reason that he's considered a draft bust

Yup...
If I recall correctly...he was listed at 6'10" before the draft by some folks (not sure on the exact height, though), but measured in at 6'7" w/o shoes at the draft combine.
More important than his size, is that he is more of an ISO player on offense, who doesn't seem to grasp the concept of team D.
Will still be rooting for him...you always want to see a player salvage his career. Would be a great story if he could emerge as a solid and well-rounded performer for us, but he has been around for a long time, and seemingly missed many opportunities to grow as a player. What is different now?
Right now I see him as a guy you bring in when the offense is not clicking, and you hope he can catch fire or exploit a match-up, but I can't picture him as a starting SF.
We have so many mediocre pieces!
I think Jeff is going to what to go with 2 PGs- Jack or Sessions & Ron Baker. Then that leaves THjr at the 3, Willy & KP round out the front court.
