your talking about Kanter, McDermott, beasly, not to mention the coaching staff was never considered to be strong on defense. When noah comes back is should get even better
I think the coaches always had ability but you need something to work with!!! Rambis won Titles as a Defensive Assistant. Now the Knicks coaches have more defensive talent but more importantly they have players BUYING IN. I was saying that the BUY IN factor was going to be a major factor.
Players simply Giving a Damn is crucial. Jeff is getting Max Effort from these players. This year we don’t have a bunch of Lazy Resistant high minute players dragging the team down.

DEFENSE!!!
I was so confident that this team could put really good defensive units on the floor but this is even better than I had hoped. Guys are really digging deep in the 4th quarter of games! Knicks are holding teams below 42% in 4th quarters this year.
Jeff and Rambis are doing their thing with the lineups and schemes defensively. You saw THJ go over to Rambis and get some guidance and Jeff has something special with the LT and Nitty tandem.

We have to start looking at per possession and opposing percentage stats. The NBA is so different these days that pure points against not telling the story. The Knicks also are getting huge 4th quarter defensive efforts. They can improve, hut I actually think a lot of players are giving a high effort on defense. Look at Doug McDermotts defensive intensity for example.

He was really trying hard today - haven't watched him closely before, but the guy was playing hard on D, may not be very skilled at it but I will take the effort. After 20+ years of sucking, drama and pouting, this is so exciting to watch!

McD has been playing hard on D and getting better as a TEAM defender. He’s a very good TEAM player overall. He’s a Keeper IMO.
