Knicks · Where is Kanters mid range J???? (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 11/4/2017 10:43 AM
Im telling you--we are not seeing his whole game. While he has played very well---MUCH better on D than people suspected--his offensive game has been muted? Hes turning down shots--seems scares to shoot but he has shown in the past to be a really good mid range shooter. Its nice to get easy buckets--that makes teams better--hes a worker--but Id like him to let loose a bit and use that mid raneg J freely 3-4 times a game

Hmmm. Last year, he hit about 38% of his mid-range shots (10 to 23 feet). We could have just kept Melo for that

He has the best traditional post-up game on the team...and is using it well. KP has been more of a midrange shooter, which is fine with me.

It's been a good combination so far. Kanter has taken a few midrange shots, but right now I like him banging in the post, and he's been good at it.

Knixkik @ 11/4/2017 12:19 PM
Playing alongside KP has limited those opportunities. It's not like sharing some minutes with Adams in OKC where he can float around more. Clearly his value has been around the basket, both as a low post scorer and offensive rebounder. Pulling him away from the basket probably takes away some of that value. But we know the mid range game is there if needed. His versatility allows him to play alongside KP. I really felt like KP was best long-term as a center, but i think Kanter sharing the floor with him gives the best of both worlds for KP. cThey have been a perfect compliment to one another so far.

Where are you getting your stats?

I look at this site for those types of shooting numbers and here they are:

Kanter really doesn't have a mid range game.

Kanter really doesn't have a mid range game.

33.3% from 10 to 16 plus 43.5% from 16 to 23 is about 38% overall. Since the two were almost identical attempt numbers (8.1 and 8.4% of total shots), you can just take the average of 33.3 and 43.5.
If you give the two their exact weights (he took 3.7% more shots from 16-23), you'll get an exact percentage of 38.5 actually.

Wouldn't mind Kanter developing a mid range game, but its his post game that makes him so valuable. Cant believe we have a legit front line. We were lucky to acquire Kanter so soon after Lopez was traded. Brings some things to the table that Lopez didn't.
BRIGGS @ 11/4/2017 1:52 PM
Kanter is also bringing a maturity level that is nice. He is trying very hard to play the way he should.
