Knicks · This guy was Daymean Dotson's PG partner on Houston Rob Gray (page 1)
BRIGGS@ 11/29/2017 6:15 PM
In fact if you asked me who the NBA player was--I would have said Rob Gray(theyre in the same league as Uconn). Hes your NBA sleeper player--who reminds me something in between Seth and Steph Curry. Sneaky athletic really smart great instincts and a bIG time fit in todays NBA.
Paris907@ 11/29/2017 8:23 PM
What his weakness. Looks like a nice player.
EnySpree@ 11/29/2017 8:39 PM
Looks like Kevin Johnsson in his prime.... damn those highlight videos!
meloshouldgo@ 11/30/2017 12:25 AM
So we should trade KP to whoever drafts him?

He'll be 24 by the time next year's draft comes a long. And he's only 6'1"-6'2".
Finestrg@ 11/30/2017 10:22 AM
Nice find. I honestly believe a PG with these abilities -- speed, breakdown ability, a guy that can get in the lane, a scorer, looks like this kid can shoot the ball well too and he's got some moxie to him as well which you gotta like -- can only help us. Upgrading this position will be a game changer for us. No doubt about it.

How tall does a PG need to be? If our pick was 15 and K Knox and Mikal Beidges was gone--I would not hesitate to take 6-2 Jalen Brunson with that pick.
This player here would be interesting IF we DO get a SF at 10-15 and we have two picks in rd 2. Remember this Steph Curry was a purported second rounder half way through his last year in college. Go back and look at my posts--I had him as a top 15 pick all year. Ive pretty much been on with the currys--I think this guy is something of a more athletic more PG orientated Seth Curry. I want to see the 3 point shooting stay at 45% all year. Hes got similarities and his volume FT are at 90% right now.

WE giving up on Frank already? Briggs early season YouTube player porn.

Steph or Seth? Steph was touted as a first-rounder all throughout his senior season. I bring up the height because it kinda negates some of the physical advantages he has at the next level. He looks physically dominant in those highlights, but then you have factor in that he's almost four years older than the guys he's playing against. Also, I like Holiday over brunson as a potential change of pace guy in the second-round because of his defense.

I don't think he's saying that. Frank's got some uniqueness to his game with his size and defense but he's got a ton of work to do in other areas. Even defensively, he needs work (I like that he gets his hands on some balls but he has trouble keeping guys in front of him). Real hard for me to look at Frank and say we drafted our lead guard for the next 15 years. I like Frank, think he'll be useful, but I think we need to find another PG that contrasts/complements what he brings to the table.

Exactly.

It's definitely youtube player pron but if he's legit, he could be a microwave off the bench. But didn't see him pass the ball once in that video. Where are his assists @ Briggs? If he can't pass, he will no longer fit on this team.

Every point guard is going to get beat of the dribble. It's the NBA. It's his recovery that makes standout. Even when he gets beat, he's able to recover and force his man into bad passes and forced shots. I agree, a change of pace guy would be nice, but I can't call a necessity at this point.

Hes been in Uconn's league for a couple of years. I knew who Daymean Dotson was when we drafted him. His assist to turnover ratio is very good--almost 6-1 to start season.
Paris907 wrote:What his weakness. Looks like a nice player.
From a projection standpoint, he won't be able to handle actual NBA game speed. If you don't have length in the NBA, you need plus athleticism to fit into the "Attack Guard" mold.
He has poor court vision in general. And he won't get to the line as much at the NBA level. Like a lot of college players who don't make it in the NBA, his college production is reliant on him creating his own shot, which he can do against inferior competition. At the NBA level though, it's a different story. He'll also end up a zero on defense at the next level. And, as mentioned before, his stats are padded by being more experienced and physically developed than his competition.
Gray would need to shoot the 3 ball at an elite level in the NBA to carve out a real role in a rotation.
Like a lot of guys Briggs touts, he has a bit of that Corey Maggette Flaw ( i.e. a empty counting stats guy where his best skill set is he doesn't understand his limitations and his worst skill set is he doesn't understand his limitations)
Wes Van Beck actually has a slightly more projectible skill set as a 3 And D wing.

Right now Frank isn't showing the ability to become a lead guard. But I can see him as a solid championship piece to add......off the bench.......until he proves otherwise.
Just because he was a high pick.....doesnt mean he will become an NBA starter. But I'm still glad we picked him......We are on the right track.. Adding 2 way players.

If Knox and Mikal Bridges are gone--and we are picking 13-18--Jalen Brunsonis my pick. He is so drastically under rated--he does everything efficiently hes a winner his IQ is off the charts. I have a feeling bGray will move up(hes not even listed) and would be someone to look at IF we do get a SF with our #1 pick.

That's just nonsense. The kid was the youngest player drafted and is doing great for his age and experience level. His defense is already elite. How many 19 year olds can you say that about?
FrenchFreak@ 12/2/2017 10:49 AM
Can you imagine how ridiculous Frank would be playing against college competition 4 years from now? That’s what you have to imagine to get to an apples to apples comparison of Frank vs Gray. I think of how dominant a similar aged Michael Gbinije looked for Cuse his last season. His age and experience gave him a big advantage over 19 year old but almost nobody saw him as a future good NBA player.
There are a dozen Rob Grays every year. He’s five years out of high school so he looks really, really good against younger competition. You have to ask why is he still in college at 24? If he had NBA athleticism he would have entered the draft years ago. He’s not long and he doesn’t look explosive in an nba way to me. Objectively his odds of having any sort of NBA career are slim.
He’s a great guy to take a flyer on with a mid second round pick. Personally, I’d look for his equivalent athleticism but 3 years younger with that pick.

IIRC, blkexec has discussed that he has a heavy affiliation with AAU basketball ( Amateur Athletic Union) I'm not going to sweep this with a broad brush completely, but nothing about what Frank Ntilikina has to offer is going to vibe with someone with the average AAU mindset ( Heavy volume of games, stacked talent teams, emphasis for the players on getting noticed by scouts, team handlers looking for cash kickbacks, "jobs" with either the brands or a college program and just riding athleticism to get as many wins as possible to keep the various shoe brands happy. There is very little emphasis on team play and team defense, I'd wager some teams do, but it would appear to be the exception rather than the rule.
blkexec is right in one way, Ntilikina might not pan out. But he's right for the wrong reason, i.e. almost everything blkexec says comes from a guy who appears to apply AAU methodology onto the actual NBA. It's nowhere near the same. But it requires letting go of one's own ego to get to that point. You can win in the AAU just be feeding the ball to a kid who just overpowers everyone else because he's more athletic or more developed than them. To be totally fair, college ball is just as exploitative as the worst elements in AAU. And lots of kids would not get a college scholarship otherwise, without the AAU. And playing against better competition has it's benefits. But what Ntilikina brings is really not going to sell hard to the typical AAU brand jockey.
There's no money in great footwork. There's no money in fundamental play. You don't get a shoe deal for being a solid glue guy. You get the full bore swag and attention from dunking over a car. From beating the living sh*t out of your Disney pop star princess girlfriend. From shooting up a nightclub with an Uzi and getting on TMZ. There's also no money in time. AAU is ready now/win now/get now kind of methodology. Actually waiting for Ntilikina to get 2-3 seasons under his belt to see what he might be is just waiting too long for the typical AAU brand jockey.
