Knicks · Approaching game 25... should we make a move to improve? (page 1)

EnySpree @ 12/9/2017 12:43 PM
Doesn't have to be blockbuster... but is there a way to get some minor reinforcements to help the cause?

Perry is recently on record saying "institutionalized losing" is not good for the culture.

We really could use a slasher. Could we get a Will Barton? Someone similiar?

smackeddog @ 12/9/2017 1:48 PM
I think we really need to decide if what we have is enough (with added player development over the next few years) first. I'm in two minds- I like the competing, I like the winning, I sometimes think, maybe if KP and Frank continue to improve we could be onto something- but my worry is we just relive what happened with the Suns that year Hornacek nearly took them to the playoffs in what was meant to be a rebuilding year- it was great for the fans at the time, but it set their rebuilding back years.

Could probably get some pics for Lee and KOQ right now
Gudris @ 12/9/2017 2:19 PM
No rush, we have 3-4 years before there will be a options to win a chip
dacash @ 12/9/2017 2:22 PM
what do we have and are seriously willing to part with that other teams need or want that they would give us what we think we need to get better?

Phoenix screwed themselves by not bringing guys back. They killed everything that was working for them. There's a YouTube video on that whole ordeal. Wining didn't set them back. That's a crazy mentality to have

Knixkik @ 12/9/2017 3:48 PM
Just need to balance out the roster. I would love to send o'quinn for a player that can help us in a different area.

That's cool but why 3-4 years? What's going to happen during that period?

I see we have pieces now... I'm not talking about trading away the future. Perry isn't going to do that. We could use another piece... another guy worth keeping around.

Absolutely... it would hurt though.... but the Knicks need to get better. We gotta show the guys we have that we are serious about trying to win. A lateral trade could do it

KP will reach his prime

we should be "sellers", not "Buyers".f
What does Noah have left in the tank?
Finestrg @ 12/9/2017 4:55 PM
I'd still like to see us improve at the point, even if it looks like nothing more than a subtle improvement at first. I respect Jack, even Sessions, but I just want something more dynamic there. Someone who complements Frank, who I'm actually good continuing to develop & roll with, growing pains and all. A younger PG that can play uptempo, get out on the break and push it, break guys down in the half court, get easy buckets for themselves or their teammates. A PG who can shoot and score the ball at will is always a plus in my book...Also, a guy that fits the age timeline with our core guys -- KP, Timmy, Kanter, Frank, etc (say 25 or younger). And if we didn't improve markedly right away, no problem, we'd still be adding a valuable piece for the good of the team's future. A guy we look at and say, "hey, you know this guy's got a lot of talent and has a key element that we're currently lacking. He's been vastly overlooked, even by us, and/or is buried behind other players on his current team. If we added this guy, gave him an opportunity and some playing time, gave coach a faster/quicker engine to drive the bus, who the hell knows?" Plus, we know Jeff wants to play uptempo -- he excelled playing this style of ball with the Suns. I'd bet anything he'd love to add this type of player. The key here for me is to take a low-risk flier -- a no-risk/all reward cheap FA signing or a low risk trade where we don't have to surrender much. If it did work out, it's a shrewd move to add an instant upgrade at the point; if it didn't, no harm, no foul--we didn't give up anything (or very little via trade) and we turn the page quickly.

There are options here (in order):

Sign Cat Barber.

Call up the Pacers and inquire about Joe Young.

Call up the Rockets and ask about Demetrius Jackson's availability.

Promote Trey Burke.

If we're really interested in winning this year and I was an intern or something over there at the Garden, this is what I'd recommend to Mills and Perry. I think adding this dimension to our attack would do wonders. There are other position players out there I like and would like to see us go the same route with, but I'd start with a faster/quicker PG. That'd be first on my list.

We should be neither nor. Just need to stay the course. Trading productive players for future assets isn't always the case. It hurts the culture we are going after.

awe1028 @ 12/9/2017 6:03 PM
Should we make a move to improve? Nope at least not the way the question is intimating. The Knicks are 12 and 12 after playing 2/3 of their games at home not good. Beginning on December 27 the Knicks play 16 of 20 games on the road. Chances are after that stretch the Knicks will have collapsed. The Knicks should ride that collapse to a higher pick in the draft and get that stud SF they desperately need.
meloshouldgo @ 12/9/2017 6:11 PM
I am OK with moving KOQ and a couple others for a decent SF - but not sure what that would achieve?

KP will reach his prime

He also will reach free agency... if we're waiting for KP to become Unicorn Prime then we are screwing ourselves. I get the draft pick thing, but asking the way you habe to show the tram you are willing to get them help. The Knicks could use slight reinforcements today. If a lateral move could be made, that shoots moral up several notches

to what end? I am not sure a first round exit or a better draft pick is better. 4-7 games of playoff experience isn't a life changer but a good player in this draft may well be.

Paris907 @ 12/9/2017 8:13 PM
In 3-4 years we will determine if building around KP was prudent. KOQ, Lee, Noah, Sessions, Jack will all be gone and as he’s a free agent, we will know soon if Kanter was kept. Likewise, Dotson, Frank, Baker, Hernangomez and MCDermott will have either panned out or not. We will be drafting what hopes to be top 10 this year and in 3-4 years it will matter. A Free agent or two would be solidified as well.

If we make the playoffs we could attract free agents. We could still get a nice player with a pick around #18. Playoff experience vital... continuity.

If we can get a lateral trade and maybe call up Trey Burke and or Hicks... we might have enough to give a nice showing in the playoffs. What if Paul George likes what he sees and signs here? Way if we get a nice player at say #18 pick?.... can't say it won't happen. Its a possibility. Cant just piss every season away trying to get high draft picks. There's more than One way to build a roster

We have tried the other ways of building a team - the results speak for themselves
