The #NewYork #Knicks will request waivers on Ramon Sessions later today. The reserve PG will still get paid for the remainder of the season. He signed a one-year deal this past summer. #NBA

Ramon Sessions will be released today, opening the door wide open for the long awaited arrival of PG Trey Burke. What will Burke bring to the team? Will he get playing time? Will his presence hurt young Frank? Will the team get back on the winning track now? Your thoughts, please.

sit on the bench is my guess

My guess is at first he’ll just work on things in practice and eventually get a spot few minutes. They may give Jack a rest day and start Frank with Burke off the bench. I don’t expect big minutes right away.

At some point this season Jack will get hurt and miss couple games or a couple of weeks. Or Baker will miss enough layups.

Then Burke will get his minutes.

I think that already happen

Burke is a good pick up. The guy was a top 10 pick that started for Utah. He looks to be more efficient at scoring now, so the only question is can he play solid defense and can he run the offense. He will give Frank some good competition to make sure Frank keeps pushing himself to earn the starting spot.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Burke get some run with THJ playing with the 2nd unit tomorrow and with the BTB on Monday. Then again, would be surprised if he is a DNP With Horny sticking with his regular rotations

They all practice in the same place. Can a Gleague player practice with the Varsity?

It would be awesome to see him on the floor with Tim tomorrow. Hornacek had started to use Sessions in a few games recently when he needed a guard to penetrate and put pressure on the d. Hopefully he gives Burke a shot. Hard not to like the signing of a former lottery pick that is just 25 and is playing for his next contract.

What have we to lose? Hopefully he has improved his game to the point his defensive liability is mitigated. Maybe Frank can learn a bit watching him too if he has?

Yeah it's a no lose situation. He is the right age for what they've been looking to do and perhaps like THJ the stint in the G League did him some good. People forget that THJ got demoted to the G League last year, worked his tail off and then earned a key starting role.

I didn't forget. But circumstances are different. THJ had all the physical tools but had to work on his attitude and defense. Burke doesn't have the physical tools and didn't appear to work on any of the things he needed to improve on. You're right tho, it is a no lose situation. I look at Burke's G-League highlights and he looks like the same kid who bounced out the league.

Burke might not have great tools but he has great skills. He's shooting 42% from three this year on more than six threes per game. He is an uncanny ball handler with either hand and can penetrate at will. He gets to the line. He knows how to lead a team as a PG and is a plus offensive player. I know for a fact that he's been working continuously on his body and has played very hard on the defensive end also.
I'm hoping that he can become a Kyle Lowry type for us.

Burke is a welcome change of style kind of like a Change of Pace Running Back. We don't have a PG like him and his style will add a completely different look for opposing teams who have been able to relax against Jack and Frank.

The key for me is for Jeff to allow him to play to his strengths and not have him simply hand the ball off. I have to believe that Jeff will use his ball skills like he's done with his PG's in PHX. A kid like Burke could make a positive difference despite not being any kind of star type player. Just add SIMPLE things that we're not getting from Jack or Nitty.

Good Stuff in this article on Burke.

GustavBahler @ 1/13/2018 5:40 PM
Hopefully Burke will push Frank. Give him more of a sense of urgency when it comes to chipping in on offense.
