Knicks Rumors: New York reaches agreement with Trey Burke
by Maxwell Ogden5 hours agoFollow @MaxwellOgden
The New York Knicks have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Westchester star Trey Burke for the remainder of the 2017-18 NBA regular season.
After years of swinging for the biggest of available names, the New York Knicks have committed their resources to a legitimate rebuild. That can be a confusing phrase, but the general approach is one that values long-term potential when making key roster decisions.

After days of speculation, it appears as though the Knicks have held true to the belief that a long-term vision will drive the organization in the right direction.

Recent reports have stated that the Knicks will waive veteran point guard Ramon Sessions. It’s a less than surprising decision, as the Knicks needed to clear a roster spot for a player with whom they’ve been in serious negotiations: Trey Burke.

According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Knicks have completed the negotiation process and signed Burke for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Sources: The New York Knicks and guard Trey Burke of G League affiliate Westchester have agreed on a deal for the remainder of the season.

This is a long-awaited decision by a franchise that’s preparing to reunite one of the most dynamic backcourts in recent college basketball history.

Burke thrived as the featured scorer and facilitator for the Knicks’ G League affiliate in Westchester. He led the Westchester Knicks to a 19-10 start through 29 games—good for the best record in the G League.

During his 26 appearances, Burke compiled averages of 26.6 points, 5.4 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 2.7 three-point field goals made per game on a slash line of .488/.416/.831.

Following his stellar stint in the G League, the former lottery pick will have a chance to salvage his NBA reputation alongside a familiar face.

Before Burke was selected at No. 9 overall in the 2013 NBA Draft, he was the superstar point guard for the Michigan Wolverines. Playing alongside current Knicks shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr., Burke won the 2013 Naismith and Wooden awards as the National College Player of the Year.

Together, Burke and Hardaway led the Wolverines to their first National Championship Game appearance in 20 years.

Trey Burke had career averages of 10pts 2 rebounds and 3 assists in 24 minutes.... if he could do that for us off the bench then the Knicks really came up big.

Dilly, Dilly

Hardaway has been a very vocal leader this season, even when he was hurt. THJ being there to get on Burke's case when he goes away from the game plan, slacks off on D, will be a good thing.

He did that with inefficient scoring and bad defense. If he would score less on a decent shooting % and more assists, that would be better.

The hope is that he's gotten better in those respects.... so 10pts, 2 rebounds and 3 assists with improved defense and percentages would be good for us.... is that Better?

I reckon all I can say is that while I'm excited about Ntilikina's overall development long term (and his flashes of brilliance in the short) - I also would LOVE it if Burke surprised and put up even 80% of his G-League production here.

The G-League Knicks won with Burke as the engine. Now we talk about Burke not being an elite specimen, but the 34 year old Jack certainly isn't that and he's found ways to be extremely productive. I'm hopeful/optimistic that Burke can bring his regained confidence and spark this team (with with THJR's return) until KP can get his mojo back so we get back into the thick of the playoff race. I think even limping into the playoffs for this team would be a great milestone to teach these young players and give them a solid benchmark for the future.

I want defense from this guy. If he can play D up to at least Jarret Jack level, I will be content with him.

When Jack is putting in effort his D isn't that bad...then again we have been through Rose, Calderon, and Raymond Felton so my standards for PG defense are pretty darn low

Youtube is amazing for scouting! That dude Novak (nr0) looks like a stud as well!!!
I had to google him and see if we can somehow get him...
Seems like he is playing in the Dutch league right now so it should be somehow feasible!

Rght, if he can penetrate, score, and push the pace, i'll settle for the subpar defense. It's not like we stopping opposing pg's with jack and frank

SocraticBallin22 @ 1/15/2018 3:07 PM
With THJ out today, there is really no reason why Trey can't get any burn. He has a skill set that no one on the roster has: above average handle with ability to penetrate in the lane and create (is an offensive threat at the point).

well it's highlights from one game so at least its not a collection of makes and assists only from a bunch of different games which would definitely be even more skewed.

at least with burke you are seeing the quickness, i dont think anyone said that this is going to be his game performance each game. but the fearless factor is there.

just joking! ;-)
thought it was funny how Zack Novak looked like an all star! :-)
I do like the offensive skillset of Burke. Just hope he can stay on the floor with his d!
