Knicks · How good can Burke/Hardaway backcourt be with.... (page 1)
Right now Beasley is showing off whenever he shows up... if we kept him and added a legit starting small fwd.... with the bench we'd still have... how good is that?
Beasley, Mikal Bridges, KP, Burke and Hardaway???
I mean mix it up how you like... the point is we kinda have the center, point guard and shooting guard set. We are two premium starters away from putting out a competitive starting 5
I cant believe we are 3-27 in our last 30 games, maybe we win 7 of those games with kp, thats not encouraging by any stretch of the imagination

Unfortunately, that center position is in flux, and our starting PG is best suited for the sixth man role. We need a stud SF, hopefully from the draft, and significant progress over the summer from last year's draft picks(Frank, Dotson). And what about rebounds? We may be farther away than we hoped for...

New York Knicks: Jeff Hornacek identifies ideal backcourt combination

The New York Knicks have an abundance of backcourt depth, but head coach Jeff Hornacek believes he’s found an ideal backcourt.
The New York Knicks have a backcourt that’s flush with recognizable names and long-term potential. Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Frank Ntilikina are former top-10 draft picks at point guard, and Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee are starting-caliber shooting guards.
As the Knicks continue to explore the untapped potential at the lead spot, head coach Jeff Hornacek appears to have identified the ideal backcourt combination to help him do so.

By near necessity, New York has utilized Hardaway and Lee as small forwards in 2017-18. That’s enabled Hornacek to turn back the clocks to his Phoenix Suns days and utilize multiple point guards at one time.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Hornacek believes that Burke and Ntilikina have formed the Knicks’ best backcourt combination in recent weeks.

Jeff Hornacek assessing his guards: "Overall it seems when Frank (Ntilikina) and Trey (Burke) have been in, it's been the best combination.”
The sample size is relatively small, but Hornacek isn’t wrong about the quality of play that Burke and Ntilikina have provided.
New York has run 509 possessions with Ntilikina and Burke on the court together. They’ve been outscored by 4.5 points per 100 possessions, but the Knicks’ net rating has been -8.0 since Burke’s season debut on Jan. 15.
In other words: New York has played better when Burke and Ntilikina have shared the court—namely over the course of the past few weeks.
Over the course of the past eight games, New York is holding opponents to just 101.1 points per 100 possessions when Burke and Ntilikina share the court.
During that time, Burke has averaged 18.6 points and 5.6 assists in just 27.3 minutes per game. Within that same window, Ntilikina has produced a career-best scoring performance, three games with at least 10 points, and a slew of outings during which his defense has been heralded.
There’s no telling if this backcourt duo will actually lead the Knicks back to prominence, but for the time being, it seems to be working for New York.
The question is: Will Trey Burke and Frank Ntilikina be able to prove that they can share a backcourt for the New York Knicks in the long term?

Yeah this is basketball, not the NFL. It only takes a couple of quality additions to make a HUGE impact and change the dynamics of how a team plays.

I think of Trey/Frank that way. If there was a tandem, I would like to see more of next season, this would be it. It looks like Burke is helping Frank find his offense.

I agree.... Thjr is a flame thrower like Starks. Makes total sense. Frank has to keep getting better though. He's the key to making that legit and not just a hope.

Burke may yet improve and he may be a keeper.
If you're saying Burke isn't playing D then you're not watching the games and there's no disputing that. Is Burke ever gonna make the all defensive team? Nope but he has been playing pretty good defense since he's been here especially since he's been starting. I hate when people say players don't play defense because every single player plays defense it's just that some aren't good at it and don't give max effort, some give good effort at times and some just play the minimal amount of defense you possibly can and Burke is in the middle.

I’m saying he’s making the effort yet think of the context. It’s not just about effort. He’s a small guard and offensively minded. Think if we were in the playoffs and it’s Boston, or Golden State or a solid defensive team. Teams are allowing us to score knowing they can tie us up in the 4th. Trading baskets ain’t where it’s at. Cp3 plays great defense for a small guard as does Marcus Smart and others. Team defense matters too. When this team ultimately wins it will be because they’ve stoppers-someone as good at the rim as KP and as solid as a rock like Kawhi. Maybe Frank grows into a borderline allstar but simply trying and trading hoops aint gonna cut it.

unless we're adding a Lebron or Michael Jordan talent- then we're still going to suck and continue to stink for the next few years.
We're not 1 or 2 players away unless the 1 or 2 are Lebron/MJ type talents.

Man you are full of shit... he's making the effort but think if the context? Come on man. Simply trying ain't gonna cut it? You clearly don't watch games. You just a Frank groupie. Trying to make people believe that the hope of a player playing well is better than a guy that actually is.

Same ole juvenile crap from you EnY. I can give you argument but I can’t give you an understanding. You’re a die hard fan and so am I. I appreciate your limitations and they are abundant. I’m not a frank groupie but any stretch but I do see the potential. The pinnacle for you is Hardaway Enes and Burke and Beas taking us to 500. I am not satisfied with that. Until and unless you’ve 8 guys playing superior defense and 2 of them perrenial all stars, talk to me about how great Burke is.
Of all the folks that comment here, you are consistent only in your lack of ability to think with clarity. Again EnY thanks for being a fan and your enthusiasm is appreciated.

My only concern with Burke is that he gets shot happy and used to slack on defense (but he has been better on defense in NY). That was his problem in Utah, albeit he was not as efficient a shooter in Utah. KP is going to need shots, and Burke is going to have continue to facilitate more so than focusing on scoring. But I do agree that he has shown enough to be a starter. He just has to keep bringing it defensively and only take good shots and keep the team involved.

define good player?
And yes - because Frank is at least 2-3 years away from having an impact.
KP is likely out most of next year and realistically a year or two away from having a main impact.
Not jumping off a bridge - but realistic about how far away we are.

You can be shot happy when your shooting 50% and dropping dimes.
If burke was on MDA's team, he would be a all star without a doubt
