This is essentially what the knicks are doing. Acquiring under 25 talent from other teams. Hardaway, Burke, and Mudiay. All good gambles. Some will hit and some will miss.

Key is for teams to trade them in return for value before they are free.
Its not a new model and its how teams can sustain longer periods of contention. Spurs best example of re-purposing other teams mid level players.
At the same times its important to know when to cut bait and move on. Mudiay is an extreme case but Denver has his replacement. The fact he was picked 7th should not matter. We have tried with Derrick Williams but not all are worthy of continuing.
For that matter, I say no to Beas. He was good for keeping games close in our tankathon and he can put up points, but they are more often "empty Calories". In crunch time he sort of zones out on defense and is not in the moment. Low IQ.

Beasley is like the hired gun, called in to tame the town. In this case, he's called in to provide offense, something that will be sorely missed this upcoming season. Let it be the new coach's decision (Hopefully, Coach Bud). Let's see what a defined role after training camp and the new season under Bud brings. Give him a two year deal, with an option on the second. It will take at least that long before we can re-assess where we are with KP.

Yes and this is definitely a new twist on teh Hinkie model, we are going for the lottery rejects/busts to see if there was something really there. While I am not a big fan of undersized guards the approach itself is sound.
