Been watching clips on the top ten draft picks and I’m just not a huge fan. Feel like there’s gonnna be a lot of disappointments. Feel like from 1-8 I maybe like three guys Mikal Bridges is one of them and I really see Michael Porter Jr turning into a bust even when he recovers from his injury. He has height but I just don’t see what everyone else is seeing. I think Mikal should be our guy and I can see him becoming a star in this league.

I believe there will be more Donovan Mitchell types later in this draft...just like last year. It's all about having the right talent and system where they can flourish. That's what I like about fizdale. He doesn't put his players in a box or a defined position. He let's their skill set dictate their impact.

I'll admit, I haven't seen any video of Michael porter Jr that made me think "wow, that's what all the fuss is about", I'm only intregued by him because he was projected as a top 3 pick

He will come down to workouts and his medical records. If his health is clean and he works out well he wont be there at 9. This draft looks pretty good to me. I see a few guys with elite potential and about 20 others who could be high end rotation guys (or have potential to be). Good year to trade down a bit IMO if we dont love who is ranked highest at 9

Same here with Porter...I'm sure others have seen more of him than I have, but I haven't yet seen something to make me think he's special.

Remember, Maciej Lampe was a projected top 5 pick

Porter could easily become a star, or just as easily become the next Jeff Green.

"Best HS Player in the country"
knicks1248@ 6/4/2018 2:46 PM
The draft is such a crap shoot it's almost impossible to predict how a player will turn out. The best player can go anywhere from 1 to 30, Then it really becomes a problem when you draft talent over need or fit.
SupremeCommander@ 6/4/2018 2:54 PM
I agree completely Stevo... if we could somehow pull a Bill Belichick and trade this year's first for picks next year I would do that immediately

This draft is actually considered strong though, not for stars but for quality starters. Next year's draft is considered weak by all accounts. Bottom line is the draft is so difficult to identify future stars, unless it's a LeBron or Anthony Davis that is easy to identify from the start. These guys are so hard to predict.

Well, we already did a good job of adding young talent. Plus without KP, theres really low expectations for this next season.
If we decide to trade the pick, this year would be the perfect time.
Learn from Danny Ainge. Trade down...obtain another pick....and still get someone of need, since we have so many holes to fill.
I don't think Mikal Bridges will become a superstar. To me, he's a longer and younger version of Courtney Lee. So passing on him it's too bad.....especially if you can turn pick 9 into two picks.

Watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chYLDZ0jUic
I'm not impressed. He's a legit two way player, against HS kids. But his movements look stiff. His handles look suspect. Great all around skills, but not a specialist with injury history and no college experience.
Mikal is a great system player with potential to get better. Porter looks like he grew early and was physically over powering. That's not going to happen in the NBA, against grown men. Mikal will hit the ground running, because he already has a specialty with his pull up jumper.
Call me crazy, but if Porter is on the board, I'm trading the pick and selecting Mikal with the next pick. ala Boston with Tatum.
Potential Bust....

You don't take him without a physical. Folks were going crazy about Gallinari after his SL injury, talking about back injuries I don't think he had ever had... the "damaged goods" stuff. This kid had a back problem which seems to have surfaced in HS, and exploded in his first year of college against competition equal to him.
I would be very hesitant to take him if we don't see a physical or give him one. Also don't know what his position would be...not sure he can defend at the 3.
As always, though, I trust our people to do the right thing looking at him.

I watch a lot of college basketball. I'm basing this on my opinion here. The field was wide open. There were no great players or teams. I believe that has a lot to do with a lack of legitimate talent. I think the reason it looks deeps is because there aren't any legitimately great players or many good for that matter

The coaching staff was responsible for 60% of our losses.
trae solves a lot of our problems on offense, more 3's, and more FT attempts. Considering that Jack, Frank, lee and lance would go 3 to 5 games without a FT attempt.

If he doesn't hand you a legit physical that wasn't done by or ,
you don't take him.
Herniated discs which seem to have developed in HS, and blew up on him as a freshman in college? Disc issue are degenerative, and BB players do a lot of pounding and put pressure on the back.
If you take him and he once again reaches the athleticism he showed before the injury, and the back is not an issue? Could be a great pick if he finds the right position in the NBA.
Take him, without a physical (and even with one) and he has the kind of Knicks career an older Kiki Vandeweghe had with all his back problems, andPerry and Mills would deserve to get fired.
By the way...I see Porter as a bit like a young Kiki...better handle, but a similar body and smooth style. (Folks forget that when Kiki was young he had some major hops.) Not sure that Porter can play anything put PF, though, and if you have him with KP at center your rebounding will be sub-par.
blkexec@ 6/5/2018 5:55 PM
Porter looked very stiff with his movements (pre injury). He looks like a man playing with boys.
I remember having this discussion with Lebron, and somebody said Lebron looks good against HS kids. But what I saw from Lebron wasn't just bully ball, it was sharp IQ decision making and creator for others and himself. That's when I said, hes going to be great. He didn't have to bully ball everybody to impact the game.
I don't see or have the same feeling with Porter....Maybe the injury and lack of college play hurt him, so he's a huge gamble. But at pick #9 and a knicks franchise starving for a superstar player, Porter has that potential. I just think the risk is high and his floor is low. Basically a high risk, high reward pick. Mikal is a low risk selection. Will be interesting to see what management will do if Porter is on the board.
Paris907@ 6/6/2018 5:19 AM
I differ. I think it’s a high quality deep draft. These are 19 year olds. Many of their bodies are in growth mode. Not everyone is Miles Bridges or Robert Williams. Many will hit the rookie wall after 40 games. Yet there is gold out there and all stars to be.. Lonnie Walker will be a stud and Trae too and Ayton and hopefully Mikal. BTW. There are some quality shooters as well
