Knicks · MPJr Might Drop To Us Tonight (page 1)

What do we do if Porter drops to us tonight? There's a very good chance of that happening. He was slotted as the best prospect before the season started and before he hurt his back. If the Bulls pass on him at #7 then he could be ours. I'd grab him over Knox for sure and probably Mikal too. And then let him recuperate slowly so that we garner one more high draft pick next year. But I'd only do this if we did our due diligence and consulted the best medical experts in the field.

That is a tough decision. Mannix was on espn radio and he said he has heard 'degenerative' in regards to Porter's back. The medical staff would know best. This group has done their due diligence in the coaching search and with scouting. I think they would make the right decision. They are not relying on a prospect whisperer or an old man who judges prospects based on interviews.

Don't you find it fishy that one day he says getting the surgery was the best thing ever for him; he was playing in pain from HS and now he's good. And then the next day he can't get out of bed and hints he may need a year off

there are some guys who are just chronically injured. Every year they're going to go down for a bit

THis guy is looking at 82 game season; plenty of airplane trips etc. I know I would NOT have the cajones to pull the trigger at this point, even if the doctors told me everything was great

ekstarks94 @ 6/21/2018 5:12 PM
Take him...and then channel our inner ...Trust the Process and red shirt him for the year.....we are not going anyplace....get him stronger...seeing the NBA game etc...just like Simmons in PHI.
BigRedDog @ 6/21/2018 5:12 PM
Draft him. Even if we want him to sit out a year to get healthy, his talent is worth the gamble.
SupremeCommander @ 6/21/2018 5:13 PM
Assuming the doctors greenlight him, I'd absolutely take him. Considering KP probably won't play this year too, I'd be fine drafting him and resting him for a year a la Embiid. We'd likely have a crack at a great pick next year too.

We're not exactly going anywhere next year so I'm fine with a mini-process. Even if we draft a guy that could contribute right away we're still not making the playoffs.

ekstarks94 @ 6/21/2018 5:14 PM
I take that back...once I heard degenerative....
BigRedDog @ 6/21/2018 5:14 PM
Might come down to the Cavs picking Porter or Sexton? Chi wants Carter
smackeddog @ 6/21/2018 5:15 PM
Nope! Teams higher up wanted him badly - especially the bulls who did the medical tests in the first place. If they're passing, he must be red flagged.

The New York Process.
I'm all for it.
We might only need one more year of it if KP sits out and so does Porter.

If it really is a "degenerative" back condition, I dont see how rest will make that much of a difference. More time away from the game isnt what you want from your first rounder.

If there werent any good choices at 9, that would be another story. Porter jr. is a player I would take a chance on with a low first round pick. Would rather gamble on Young, if available. He's 100 percent, as far as we know.

So if the Bulls want him and we can't have him then we wish we could take him but if the Bulls don't want him then he's no good and we shouldn't want him either?

To me it comes down to what OUR doctors say

I don't think our doctors were allowed to test him, only look at the results the bulls doctors had obtained

Mannix didn't confirm that the condition is degenerative. He just said that he had heard this mentioned. Not sure what you can believe this time of year.

We need to take Porter and start the New York Process. We might only need one more year of it.

KP
Porter
Frank
RJ Barrett
Kyrie

Griz desperately wanted him, mavs desperately wanted him, bulls wanted him and so did cavs- why would they all pass?

TPercy @ 6/21/2018 5:48 PM
Good. Let him keep dropping.
smackeddog @ 6/21/2018 5:50 PM
Yikes--espn just updated their mock and have him dropping to 12th! Big concerns about his health
