long article but worth the read

My only issue with Trier is eventually teams are gonna gameplan for him and when his offense isnt there will he be able to contribute in other ways?
CrushAlot @ 10/18/2018 6:32 PM
That is a great article. The Knicks stole Trier.

If he starts including defense reps into his insane practice - he will be a really good player. But he has to include defense and passing so those comenatuaraly like the shooting and dribbling. He may never have great court vision, but his speed will allow him to set up bigs like Kanter for dunks all the time.

Been making chase down blocks since SL. Fizdale brought it up a while back. Trier had a nice one last night as well. Shows there is something to build on defensively.

I watched this last wk and had to give major kudos to the FO, they found a gilbert arenas (2nd rnd pick) type kid..

when you have a pull up jumper and can finish at the basket ,aaaand make your FT,s, you're a problem child..lol

this is a solid video, that chip on his shoulder is going to carry him to the next level

knicks1248 @ 10/18/2018 7:51 PM
His college career was not a walk in the park. There are many times Trier’s love for basketball was tested. One example of this would be the multiple suspensions he served for a positive test of PEDs, minuscule traces seemed like overkill by the NCAA who sidelined him for a few games. After an injury in his freshman season, he came back to Arizona ready to show the world what he was made of. Zo has endured adversity each season but it did not deter him from working on his craft and supporting his teammates.

During his time at the University of Arizona, Allonzo averaged 16 points a game with a field goal percentage of 48% Not to mention shooting 56.5% from inside the three points arc and 38% from beyond the three-point arc.

These stats are the main reason why so many PAC-12 schools rejoiced when he announced that he is going to put his name into the NBA draft. While Arizona fans cling to the memories that he brought to the Arizona Basketball Program. The late-season Wooden Award finalist improved each season in every category, he finished his college career making 86.5% of his free throws which was good for No. 2 in the Pac-12 behind Utah’s Justin Bibbins.

In the 2017-2018 season, Trier ranked No. 1 in Offensive Box Plus/Minus and True Shooting Percentage (at 65.4%), Ayton came in third at 65%.

Allonzo Trier has a game similar to Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers. There is a lot of teams that could use a Damian Lillard type of player on their roster right now due to the way he can affect the game. With that being said, NBA owners should take a good long hard look at Allonzo Trier before passing on him. Any teams sleeping on Allonzo Trier will soon be awake as soon as he gets his chance in the NBA.

I have a question how much could he get in FA next year. Is it feasible we could lose him immediately. Shouldn't we offer a full deal right now like Robinson.

Anytime there is a quote from Fiz he is raving about how Trier is one of the hardest workers on the team. The guy is on a two way contract and he is already a rotation player.

I think he is locked into his two way deal. My guess is the Knicks are looking to move Lee to free up a roster space. If not maybe they move Dotson for a future second or something. I don't think they just waive someone unless it is Mudiay.

A grand theft indeed. There were 60 opportunities to land Trier. No one bit. Someone (Perry?) tracked this player since 2009, when the article was written. The rewards goes to the most prepared! (Trier/Perry)

nykshaknbake @ 10/18/2018 8:56 PM
TIme to lock him up for 3 or 4 years on the relatively cheap if we can. I like his potential better than Hardaway especialy at less money.

Like all pure gunners, he's going to be useful when his shot is falling. Nothing he's shown for his entire playing CAREER THUS FAR indicates he can produce offensively enough at volume and consistency at THE NBA LEVEL to be shoot first/shoot all/ shoot only gunner.

He only knows how to play ONE WAY and one way only.

He got caught doing PEDS. I don't care how it's framed in the media, you have to be a bonehead in the NBA/NCAA to get caught doing PEDS. There are literally 5-6 different established informal pathways for NBA/NCAA guys to know the test is coming and when. His coach openly said move the ball and he kept chucking.

He comes off as high effort ( he wants long term security right...) but undisciplined.

Everyone here hopes he breaks out and breaks out long term for this team, but it's early and it's better to wait and see. When the league gets a better scouting "book" on him and they adjust and how he counteradjusts, that will say a lot. Something troubling is you don't see any counteradjustments now. He's playing one way, one type of ball and that's it. Which, again, is fine if he can be an effective gunner at volume and consistency, but that's pretty rare.

Wait and see. Costs the Knicks nothing to wait and see.

He's doing a nice job around the rim. He has an innate feel for natural spacing/operating in close contact. Some of the things he's doing, you can't teach. That being said, you have to adjust at this level.

I want him to do well, but he's an undisciplined chucker until he shows consistency otherwise. Contract wise, as I always say, you don't buy an engagement ring after one great blowjob. A long term NBA contract is just that, a COMMITMENT that's enforced even if the player doesn't hold up his end for sheer effort ( Melo, Bargs, STAT, Eddy Curry, Jerome James, Noah, do I need to go on?)

As fans, nice to be excited about something. For functional rational team building, wait and see.

The Knicks can sign him to any NBA contract as long as they use cap space or an exemption. His two-way contract is treated like a g league deal. Knicks should try to sign him for at least three years. If we can get him for three years at 1.4 mill per year, that would be solid for the team. Trier can then take over if he continues to improve and we decide not to resign Hardaway. However, I agree with others that he needs to develop as a passer.

“as I always say......”. Might want to frame your phraseology beyond the UK if you ever hope to attract a high value member of the female race.

As for Trier I agree with a wait and see. I’m sure there will be fear we will lose him as we did Copeland, Lin and Landry Fields but in those instances they did not play up to their contracts. Lin can play but injury became the issue.
Was it just the PED’s? Doubt it. Chucker? Undisciplined? Character issue? This kid at age 13 was on the cover of The NY Times Magazine and has not peaked since.

This kid isn’t be freaking knicks1248 out. An undrafted streetball player vs Lottery Euro Frank! Trier has great music highlight film that might be Porn to some of you.
Let’s give this kid room to grow before hailing him the next great find.
My concern is he is a self entitled ego centric prick whose chip on his shoulder is about him. It’s healthy up to a certain point then it’s Toxic. Marbury is poster child for this. Trier did not get drafted for a reason. 60 chances.

Having both Trier and Robinson on one of those 4 year deals would be huge because it makes for 2 rotation players at a minimal cost. I agree about Trier and becoming a better passer. Hopefully he does in the future, but even if he doesn't, i think he has a place as a big-time bench scorer.

You can't game plan against something with no plan. Trier is a pure scorer....and these types of guys play on instincts. Whatever the defense gives him, he takes. Force him right, he goes right. Force him left, he goes left. Back off of him, he hit you with a jab step, hessy, pull up.

He's basically unguardable. What will stop him is himself and Fiz.

i'll be even more excited when i see him do something on the court that makes his teammates better

I think scoring baskets when you play next to guys like Ron Baker, Noah Vonleh, Frank, Robinson... does make them better. I mean Baker shot like 0-4 or something retarded in almost 30 minutes, yet Baker stayed on the floor and contributed. You cant have a guy like Baker sucking on offense like he does unless you have a guy getting easy buckets on the other end.

Lets see Trier stick and be an NBA player before worrying about that. So far so good. Lets just see.

NotInMyHouse @ 10/19/2018 11:15 AM
Trier needs to watch tape from his 10 assist game. He has talent but has been on an offensive crusade his whole life. If he can use his speed to break down defenses and dish (like in that 10 assist pre season game), then the guy can be quite a playa. If he plays some defense (and he has the ability), he can be special. After all, he can score and get off his shot in the NBA. Round yer game Trier.
