You don't know that we're getting a max FA. But I don't see how that changes the value part of this specific deal. It didn't mean we needed to deal a franchise type talent for a small assortment of mediocre at best assets. We literally didn't get one top shelf asset for Porzingis, which was probably almost impossible to do. Somehow, the did.

Something half decent. At least something towards next year or yeah, at least a couple of unprotected picks. If we don't get a max FA, getting nothing for next year stings hard because we'll have that much less to build on.

Be honest...if you even wanted a KP trade, were you sitting there last night or today saying, "man, I hope if we deal KP it's for a dime a dozen underwhelming 2nd year guard, an unprotected 1st in 2021 at the earliest but possibly delayed for a team that has a really bright young star and most likely KP to partner with, a protected pick in 2023 but also possibly delayed and if KP doesn't stay and Doncic leaves could actually turn into a 2nd, and cap space. That would really move my needle!"

They looked at other deals but none were interested. I think you are overrating KP a bit. Its not like has been clos to players like the GREEK Freak or Anthony Davis. Nobody was giving up what you wanted. We got two firsts, more cap space and a young lottery pick for a injured player. I mean be realistic dude

The cap space is the only nice part, but it's not enough for a franchise level talent. Some of you are acting like all firsts are the same...they're not. One is literally top 10 protected and at LEAST 4 years away, the 4 years away part really decreases it's value in a trade, and it could be even further down or turned into a 2nd. The other is 2 years away again at the earliest, and for a team that's going to have Doncic and probably KP...that doesn't look like a great pick either. We didn't get lottery picks here.

I never thought he would be traded so I have to process it on its own merit. I think the Knicks got more draft equity for KP then any other team trading a star recently. I think DSjr is going to be really good at the point for a long time. I am so glad that I don’t have to watch Tim and Trey play poorly anymore. Getting that much cap space with this free agent class coming up and the rumors about KD and Kyrie could be a huge deal or just turn into a ton of flexibility to make more moves. Also, I don’t want anyone on the Knicks that doesn’t want to be there. KP has reportedly told the mags he is only signing the qualifying offer next summer. Don’t want that guy on the team I root for. This was a boss move. The Knicks played this one right.

You are absolutely right. DSjr is that lead guard for us that we havent had since hmmm... i want to say Marbury. We lucked into him. Dallas only gave up on him because of Doncic. DSjr changes our backcourt in a drastic way. Him and Trier, him and Frank, him and Dotson, him and Mudiay now thats some flexibility. KP is good but flawed and we got great value back

The only way Dallas gets its own pick in 2019 is to have lady luck give them 1-5. Otherwise, 6-30 goes to Atlanta. Dallas traded 1-5 to us if that happens otherwise we do it all over next time (unprotected).

If we are a slightly better team with Jordan, Smith, and Matthews in the mix, how much will it influence the tanking plan we seemed to be carrying out?

We have 3 starters from a team with a 23-27 record, and if Jordan and Matthews are expiring, or looking to get traded to a playoff team at the deadline (Can they be traded again?), so they will play hard, and diminish our chance to get into the top 3. You lose them after this year, which helps our cap, but I don't see why free agents are going to see the Knicks as an attractive landing point, other than the fact we have the cap space.

I don't see Fizdale as a "franchise" coaching talent right now, and he has not shown he's special enough to attract FAs. I expect to see a lot of 1/1 ISO ball the rest of the year, with Jordan getting a lot of pick and roll opportunities.

Neither of us know what was out there right now, but if it was slop like this, I would've just kept KP for now. That doesn't mean we would've had to sign him to a max if he didn't want to be here.

Huh? I don't think that's right.

If Dallas gets 1-5 this year, it doesn't convey to the Knicks. And if Dallas DOES get that pick in the 1-5 range, that means the 2020 pick goes to Atlanta and we can't get a Dallas pick until 2020.
