For me:
1) Get rid of kanter ASAP, his constant griping is undermining the culture we're suppose to be building
2) See what the Suns or magic would give up for either Frank or Mud. I'd like to keep Frank and see how he played with DS Jr, but I'd consider moving either for JJ or Isaac (latter is a looooooooong shot). We need to make a decision regarding Frank and Mud.
3) Trade one of DeAndre Jordan or Wes Mathews (but not both- we need some vets about). I'd rather get rid of Jordan as he has been pretty poor defensively this year and was stat chasing too.
4) Decide if we want to keep Vonleh, if not, trade him for whatever
At the moment all we have after this season is, really is:
C)- Kornet, Mitch
PF)- Vonleh (who is a FA)
SF)- Knox
SG) Dotson, Trier
PG) DS Jr, Mud, Frank
For the first time in a long time we have no bad contracts (except Noah's $6mil per year legacy)
We could really do with adding a young PF and SF for next season who's cheap (so on a 2 year minimum type deal)
I think they'll end up buying Kanter out and let him catch on with a playoff bound team
Would love to get JJ but think it would take more then Frank or Mud. To me he's got Pippen-lite kinda potential but needs to fix his jumpshot
I would waive both guys simply because they're vets looking to get a new contract and won't be content not playing - if they play the tank goes away
I really hope we resign Vonleh as he's improved a lot and we may strike out in FA - he's a versatile 4, young and plays defense - keeper!
If we strike out on the top FAs I really think we need to stay disciplined and not overpay for the next/lower tier guys. We would retain flexibility for the future - actually be in a financial position to be opportunistic when a star decides he wants to leave (like yesterday)...
I would
- buyout Kanter (and I like Kanter)
- try to get a second rounder for Mario and if not buy him out
- try to get a second roudner for Lance Thomas but keep him if need be
that's about it really.

Other teams be like: we'll GIVE you a second rounder just to keep those dudes away from our team

i think lance's value is as vet leadership, so I'd rather keep him for now (only $1mil guaranteed next season)- doubt you could get a 2nd rounder for him at this point.

just to be clear, i don't think we're getting anything for these guys really
I just want to hear they were shaking the trees
First thing i'm doing is trying to trade D.Jordan and W.Mathews by the Feb 7th deadline cause those two could add wins to this team if they're starting for us cause both would be playing for new contracts so they're gonna play their best. I'm also trading Kanter for whatever asset i can get and if i can't trade him i cut him on Feb 8th. I'm even putting DSJ's name out there just to see what kind of offers he could get. Collect draft picks by trading whoever would bring a good return.
The ONLY thing I want to happen pre-Feb 7 is that we don't make any moves which could jeopardize our tank. We need a top 3 pick in THIS draft to make the pain of losing our Unicorn feel better.

Wow, surprising! Womder if they'd do a deal for frank
(his source is usually Lee). Magic definitely seem interested in Frank- looks like that deal was using him to get rid of Lee's contract (T Ross is expiring). Still think we could maybe try Frank for Mo Bamba- seems they've really soured on him (motor, lack of defensive impact, bad hands etc). Remember we met with him just before the draft (in case we decided to do a deal then to move up), and quite a few on the board wanted him. However is he the next Thabeet? He has that giant wing span, but what's the point if he doesn't know how to use it?
Also, Frank makes a lot of sense on this team next year- can play PG, SG maybe some SF, so would be an effective role player if we land Kyrie and Durant. Also like his fit next to Kyrie, but also Dennis Jr if we don't land him.
Honestly if the FO trades Frank, I will be convinced they are incompetent.
He's on a rookie contract, is already a very good defender (a rare commodity in the NBA), doesn't whine about playing time and has potential to become a good 2 way player.
They are happy with no defense Mudiay because he improved on his fourth year. Frank has only played 1 year and a half.
When do these morons will understand you need defense to win big. Offensive minded players are easy to find, defensive minded players not so much.

I'd only consider trading him for another young player on a rookie contract, but even then I'm not sure. Definitely yes for Jonathon Isaac, a hmmm for Bamba.

They won't understand, they are in the business of appeasing fans that don't understand either. And to be honest the NBA has turned into this hot mess where halftime scores read 83-71. Defense isn't just a rare commodity, it's nearly extinct. And about 80% of the fans think that's ok. The paradigm had shifted. People want to see every game being played like the "All Star" game they love so much. Apparently it's more entertaining than good basketball. Hence the unquenchable lust for all stars. It's sad to see this turn of events, but don't expect it to change anytime soon. It's a mega trend that will play itself out over the next 15-20 years. By then basketball as we know it will be unrecognizable.
I thought it would more important to keep a veteran presence around your younger players, trier and dotson.
getting rid of franks contract would be nice since you have DSJ, groin injuries can be anywhere from 2 wks to 2 months..

I agree with this. I just have Frank shoot a million threes a day and dont worry about being a PG worry about being an elite 3 & D guy who can guard 3 positions.

Matthews and Jordan are on expiring contracts.

Sweet, 76ers have the second rounders we need (and too many to use themselves:

Yea I couldn't find a situation that could offer the Knicks the expirings and 2nd rounders who needed a player like Jordan. Wizards would probably love to land Jordan but they would want to do it for Mahinmi and draft pick(s). etc.

Frank's contract is a non-issue at this point. In fact, if the Kyrie rumors are true, I wouldn't get too attached to DSJ or Frank.

I feel Knicks are happy with Mitch Robinson and wouldn't look to pursue Bamba. They were probably willing to trade Frank to clear space in order to have the money to sign KD since they didn't have the money available without trading Lee.
If Knicks move Frank it would be for a 3/4 that defends. I could see a Frank for Issac type of deal. If they are shopping Bamba then they are keeping Vooch. They would probably package Bamba with Fournier and get something of quality.
