If its true, will it be a single owner with a large, majority, share? A group of investors? A large corporation?

Sounds great on its face to have a new owner after the last 20 years. Lets see who that will be, before popping the corks.

I know this won't be a popular response, but I think Dolan was starting to get what's involved in being a good owner.

Agree, which is why we should be careful of what we wish for...

From the article:

“This is what I’ve pieced together. [Dolan] really cares about the buildings and the in-game/in-concert experience. And he wants to put even more money into that,” Simmons explained. “The Knicks are just a pain in the a--, people s--t on him for it. He feels if he can just sell the Knicks for some crazy price, then he can put the money into that music/in-game experience stuff that he cares about. So, the Knicks are available.”

IF this is true, I don't think it would have been a coincidence that the Knicks cleared salary and KP (headache, contract, etc.) and left a wide open chance for FA's

How long of a list can there be of people with $5 billion to spend on a one-up franchise from the Suns?

Cue Triple with 14 paragraphs about how billionaires think and act and have their being...

Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, could put it on their CC. After Amazon got ran out of NYC, wouldnt be surprised if he bought the team as a face saving measure. Believe there will be some individual bids. Overseas Billionaires will probably be interested as well.

One of the crown jewels of pro sports, product on the court aside.

I was observing as the events were unfolding and had no doubt this is going to happen.
The Garden will be moved from current location. This is inevitable.
So the future of Knicks is in limbo.
May even go to another City altogether.
Some thing can be spoiled beyond repair and Knocks looks like this kind of thing.
I think that press should start changing the tune on the franchise and have more humility.
Otherwise they will have nothing to pray on.
It will be also the moment of truth for the fans.
Who wants can jump the ship with no impression of being a traitor.
Clearly a new beginning is coming.

Garden is not moving....they spent a $hitload of money with the renovations a couple of years ago...I think it was $1 bill spent....they are not moving...

In the podcast, they speculated Dolan only wants to sell the Knicks, not MSG.

Nalod @ 2/18/2019 1:29 PM
Rangers as well? He did mention a few months ago at the right price he’d sell. It’s responsible to shareholders if a deal went thru at a great price.
Dolan sees knicks as his failure. How to fix it?
LIke the Rainman says: “Winning”!!!

Suitors? Russian oligarchs? Saudi princes? Chinese Billianaires?
Be happy Dolan never sold to Trump years ago.
Jay Z and a consortium of spike Lee and Rappaport owners?
Lebron?
Big Wall St assholes?

Interesting thread.

Dolan has said, if he was offered 5+ billion for the knicks he'd owe it to shareholders to strongly consider the sale. There are numerous individual investors that could afford to buy the Knicks, but if there ever was a sale, I wouldn't be surprised if it was through a group of investors. BTW, if you ever look into how much of the Nets Jay Z actually owned, it was a miniscule amount.

From another post in the thread, MSG is not moving. Like someone said, they just spent $1bn+ on reno work. And why would you move one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in not only NYC, but the US as a whole? The air rights to MSG alone are staggering..

MSG, the company, is spending billions on entertainment venues with Sphere going up in Las Vegas right now and another in London in the next couple years. They also bought TAO Group within the last couple years. Regardless, if the Knicks are sold or not, the company is in the process of spinning off the sports franchises from the entertainment side of the business. Which IMO, is a smart move.

This would be AMAZING!

Dolan is a complete piece of shit and is the biggest reason for this organization's long-time failures. He's also been a reason in the past for why free agents hesitated or haven't come here.

Nalod @ 2/18/2019 1:51 PM
At some point the price of these franchises will matter although we have read this for years about inflating evaluations. From an EPS standpoint i’d Be curious to now what teams sell for on a forward ratio.
It’s a trophy property and for years made sense as it was weaved to the building and cable.
City would love to have the arena gone and rebuild Penn Station as its needed. The renovation is long paid for and by the time that would come to fruition the arena would be tired again.

They don't have a choice. The city has refused to renew their lease above Penn Station so Penn can be renovated.

I'll never understand that kind of ultra-conservative thinking. I would risk losing a trash owner if it includes the possibility of another trash successor if there's even a sliver of hope that whoever buys the team is going to be the right person.
