These guys did a good job picking berman's brain about the OFF season..this is a good listening

they pretty much covered everything

Marv @ 6/6/2019 8:42 AM

Marv wrote:oh man i don't have 40 minutes and 6 seconds. can you tell us some highlights?

yeah i know, I was listening in the car on the way to work...

If you press play it gives you the sections in where he touches on certain subjects..But in no special order

1-Seems like the knicks are not the high on Barret (not saying they won't take him) but he's no lock for them.

2-They will include Mitch in any trade for AD, they like his upside, but he made 3 jump shots the entire season, he's not considered a deal breaker.

3-Kyrie has nets and lakers as the top 2, knicks still in play

4-AD is going to be traded.

5-In so many words, most of the knicks organization is ready to trade frank, he makes 5 mill, and they were pretty disappointed by the fact they didn't get to see him play with DSJ..and frank just hasn't shown enough in his 2 yrs

6-Breman also talk about himself how he goes about his day to day coverage, best days covering the knicks, his back and forth with other writers.

7-The knicks are not over confident, but are realistically confident they will get some big names in here.

8-Talked about how the knicks are perceived better around the league from FA, to beat writers, other Gm's and the vibe seems to be much better.

9)will also take a shot at kawhi, no stone will be left unturned

thanks man. u must have pulled over to cry some tears of joy after you heard #5

i'm all for going all out for kawhi and kd. imagine then pulling the deal for ad and putting out THAT front line

tell u what tho, if we don't score 2 big fa's then i think it's a bad move to trade all our assets for ad and have nothing to put out there with him. i hope we are doing some major greasing of the skids to get 2 major guys who want to come to nyc together. and if they need ad to bring them here let's do that. i'd normally be a long-term rebuild guy but not after the kp deal.

Could end up with a core of AD and Kemba. The price for AD could be too high? A trio of Ball, Ingram (expected to fully recover) and Kuzma is a more proven commodity than what we can offer. My price list is: A starter, a prospect and a pick. Wide variance to what you do there. Seems that's the price these days.

I know Mudiay started for us, but not it. I'd go Mitch, Frank, and one of Knox or a future top 5 protected pick. If that's not enough, phuchem..

i just wonder how zion feels about rj and if that could possibly play in here. as in, "oh i love this dude and he's gonna KILL it in the nba. get him here with me and we will so rock this city . . ." just idle speculation but what the hey . . .?

I feel the same way mostly everybody in the organization feels..He was never the right fit once Phil left and the triangle was gone..The biggest problem they have with frank is that he can't shoot.

He doesn't take enough shots (in a game) to even get better.

Berman said last season frank went home for 2 wks and was back in NY with the trainers after, this yr that hasn't happened, but he's not a 100% sure what's going on, but he is not in NY..

IMO, I think frank would prefer a trade, and I think there was probably some truth to that Bondy article..The issue is,they may have waited to late, his value is at (2nd rnd pick) and the groin injury was no help at all..

Dude play 40 games in which 35 of them were uninspired

smackeddog @ 6/6/2019 11:55 AM
Berman has done quite a few of these interviews with Knicks podcasters- must admit as much as I've complained about him over the years he does come across okay and I've warmed a bit to him- he is a very hard working and prolific beat writer- could be a lot worse (see Bondy or Isola).

Thanks for the recap.

1) concerns me if there isnt a good deal of enthusiasm for Barrett at this point We definitely need a star wing. Definitely need players who are eager to attack the rim. This regime, and the Knicks developmental team have done good work developing players, in less than ideal conditions. Mostly from decisions made before Perry got here.

Unless they see something in Barrett's game that's a big red flag, I wouldn't pass on Barrett. Dont see any hole in his game that looks like it cant be fixed. Had my doubts earlier. But I keep coming back to how Barrett played without Zion. Like a star. Barrett wants to play at MSG as well. No secret there.

Highest pick we've had since the dawn of the lottery era. Hope the Knicks dont try to get too ambitious with it. Barrett is a very good bet.

I think what alarms the knicks is his shooting,(could be the next THJ) they are also concern if he will be able to get to the rim like he did in college..

Berm said they would prefer ja over barett in a heartbeat, and I do as well, because Fiz is not a good X/O guy and really needs a floor general

yea agree 100% and I think you are right. Due diligence is great. This one should be pretty simple. I keep hearing about Culver sneaking in. I like him a lot TBH until I wanted him brick shot after shot in the tourney

I saw a player who showed a great burst to the rim. THJ was very clutch at times his rookie season. But he hardly took it to the rim, played D. Dont see that in Barrett's future. Looking at a recent pick someone posted of him dunking, looks like he's well on his way to an NBA ready body. Agree that Morant would be a great pick, but I hope the Knicks dont overthink this decision.

If the cupboard was bare, we had no recent draft picks who were panning out, and we didnt have a surplus of 1st round picks, Id see the need to trade down. Thats not where we're at.

Walsh might have telegraphed the Curry pick, but it was really GS. We pass on a player who ends up being a game changer at his position, going to be seen as a much bigger mistake. Unless the Knicks win a title in short order.

Nalod @ 6/6/2019 3:27 PM
Did GSW really take Curry because we showed interest?
How was the Walsh negligent? I never got that.

Walsh was negligent in that draft, but not because of Curry. I can't even remember the big dufus we drafted that year.

No, that's not true, I remember reading that Don Nelson and the warriors had been high on him for the year preceding the draft, had done a load of research in him for months and were desperate to get him

Where Walsh F’ed up was that he did not trade up. D’antoni was fiending for Curry to run the speedball offense. Walsh did not think they would take Curry because the had Monta. Then he made another blunder by not taking none of the other point guards that was the key to D’antoni offense
