If this is the case - is that an injury that fully heals with rest or is it something that usually runs more chronic/nagging with older players? We know achilles tears are usually out for about a year and reduced explosiveness as a result. KD's been out about a month now and doesn't look like he is likely to return to save the Warriors for the final few games... I'm asking this mostly for people who has had calf injuries and can estimate the rehab and future outlook before we sign him for a max contract? Appreciate the info/feedback?
Scalabrine said this morning that it is an injury that has to fully heal before you can play again. He said if it is tight a day after practicing you need to pull back your training. I think you sign KD if he will sign. I think if he tore his Achilles he might just not opt out of his deal and stay with the Warriors.

who isn't signing KD to a max deal even if he has one leg? I don't think KD would stay on his deal, if hurt, if a torn calf muscle. He really has one chance to get a super big money contract, and that's now.
What if he is hurt, stays, and struggles next season. Maybe less teams with money, maybe other FA of interest, maybe teams do rethink signing him.
Have we not learned our lessons then?
It depends on the severity of the injury. I do believe it is his achilles not his half, but I don't know what the prognosis is for mild strains/tears.
My worry is also, even if he's fine, isn't adding him alone just repeat of what the lakers did this year with LeBron?
I think KD could play in the finals if he really wanted to. These guys have Millions in line why risk it for a championship that you already won twice. I guess you can never be to set for life.
Any ways it’s seems greednof money may actually surpass the greed to win.
Isn’t that the injury that Ewing had that kept him out of the ‘99 finals?

Ewing’s injury was more achillies related. KD is more calf related from what I gather. I remember where they said Ewing couldn’t hurt it more than he has and sure enough he hurt it more.

Can't believe there are so many articles, teammates and fans saying KD can/should play--you have no idea how severe his injury. Stuff like that is what turned Kawhi against the spurs

He should play his team needs him. As for severity everyone has their thresholds for pain. It’s been over a month now and strained muscles. Willis F’ing Reed came out the tunnel for his team.

He shouldn't risk his career and long term health--go ask grant Hill. These same people saying he should return despite having no idea as to the severity of his injury, are the same people who a week ago were saying they're a better team without him

I’m sorry, do you know the extent of the injury? If the team is keeping it hush-hush, or him? The severity of it? If you don’t, then its just demonstrating ignorance to even insinuate what he should or should not do.
We not at game seven either.

If it's similar to Ewing's injury, he came back after the off-season, was ready at the start of the season and played at a similar level to how he played the previous season (considering he was 36-37 years old). So I wouldn't think it would dissuade signing KD if he has Ewing's injury. Perhaps you can add protections in his contract?

What is he getting paid for. Every game is a risk of losing a career. That’s why they get paid the way they do.

Except he has an actual injury that prevents him from playing that most likely will destroy his career if he does. He’s not even cleared by the doctors. This is old school logic here.
How they can still maintain its a calf injury is beyond me- it’s clearly his Achilles:
There’s no way he’s coming back this series, so Kerr can lie and pretend he’s practicing with the team all he likes
I'd be very nervous about signing any long term, high stakes contract on a bad Achilles.
Well it seems there are a few unanswered questions and realistic conclusions to debate...
He didn't fully tear his achilles, otherwise he would have to have surgery soon and knows he wouldn't pass a free agency physical.
Maybe an achilles strain or a more serious calf tear then originally mentioned
It could be just as they said - a calf strain that is taking the full timetable to heal or a slightly bigger tear
Heard people saying the icepack placement is too low for it not to involve the achilles - what about the plantaris tendon?
Conspiracy theorists aside - it's strange the way the W's are not releasing information which suggests possibility it's more serious then thought
Strains are partial tears so it will be important to find out extent of the strain. As great as he is, does it make sense to sign anyone who's injured at the time of signing a max contract without having the ability to know his injury is fully healed and is not long-term? Anything more then a moderate calf strain I would really have to pass on signing him just b/c anything more then that poses a health risk that we just can't roll the dice on...
I don't think KD would take any medical clause so I think it's an all or nothing proposition when considering signing him

Of course, because they are robots that have to perform not even if their bodies allow them because they are paid millions. Very sound logic.
