He’s not even a rookie and the Knicks are treating him like he’s Wilt Chamberlain.
Vmart @ 6/23/2019 11:40 PM
I have to admit this is one F’ing desperate organization. What was RJ’s line “I haven’t even played in a game yet”. Why don’t they just put the jersey in the rafters.

In the desert even a lobster looks like fish...

Better to not put all the hype in his face and just let him gradually become part of the organization and the league.

Desperate is the right word.

Maybe you do this kind of thing with a FA, though you'd want the arena to be full of fans

The Knicks look like some team in a backwater town that just got a new arena to play in after having to play out of town for the past 5 years.

The Mecca of basketball shouldn't be making a big deal about someone who has never played a game for the team. Let the kid make a name for himself, first.

Tacky.

What a bunch of cynics- I thought it was a nice gesture, nice to see him being warmly welcomed
FrenchKnicks @ 6/24/2019 4:07 AM
Yup, that was very nice. Haters gonna hate...

Thank you for restoring my faith.

WTH, guys? They didn’t simulate a play where he wins the championship, gets his banner and then a bunch of fans cheer. They just showed him his player intro and his draft selection, trying to make this a special moment for him.

Why does this have to be seen as more than a special gesture to a player that we are hoping to be a part of our future is beyond me. This generation of criticizing everything and finding a fault in everything really sucks. Seeing this as desperation and not as a nice gesture for a kid starting his career in NY? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Well said. I thought it was awesome. Not sure how anyone woukd find fault in a gesture like this.

They did it for a guy who gushed over coming here due to his gramps. Didn't work out for any other tram. He kissed the Knicks but first. They just returning the favor.

But this is the type of stuff that guys like KD and agents of stars want to see. Positive moments, players being treated like royalty. KP jealous

Fixed.

I didn't think it was tacky. The kid clearly relished the moment. He's got some emotions...good for him. Too many of us have lost ours (due to circumstances out of our control) and become haters.

I thought it was endearing and it clearly touched RJB a bit. He looks psyched!

blkexec @ 6/24/2019 8:48 AM
Knick fans are like battered men / women coming out of an abusive relationship. We dont trust anybody anymore. So it's hard to start a new relationship with so much pain from previous relationships.... This can also turn off your new partner that you've met. Dont let your past mess up your future.

Soften up your heart and welcome RJ to the knick family. Enjoy it while it last.

Ha, was thinking "Blue Chips". Dont know why you're so bent out of shape over this. It was a nice touch. Highest pick in more than 30 years. TV ratings were way down for the Knicks last season. Good publicity for the team, good way of rolling out the red carpet for a blue chip draft pick.

there are some folks that just need to rub one out and take a nap. Seriously. Stupid Knicks.. wowing a kid who's dreams just came true.

the louis ck approach to knick fandom? i think it just might work.

Nalod @ 6/24/2019 11:43 AM
They do it for Braz?
Do other teams do it for heralded rookies?
Nice touch. A kid fulfills his dream and talks up how he is built for NY.
Not sure why anyone is salty on this. The arena was empty. I have not problem with any of it. It all happens on the court. Most likely he'll be like Knox. Some good games here and there which demonstrates ability and the potential.

Fans don't know how to act with rebuild. Media will not be your friend. They want to you to starphuch yourselves into a frenzy.

Allanfan20 @ 6/24/2019 4:39 PM
Sheesh. I think it’s a little over the top yet I am salty and need a nap. I’ll remember that when I disagree with some of you.

... and to think I’m the one who is thrilled to have the guy.

I don't necessarily share this opinion but I appreciate the skepticism. This pick cannot get messed up or mismanaged... over the years the Knicks really haven't made it so the young guys had to earn their way into their situation... made it way too easy. I don't think there's much wrong with this but I get where you're coming from for sure

Actually, I think the turnabout between Zion and RJB is an interesting plot twist.

Zion wanted and I think expected to go to NY. Barrett likely expected to go elsewhere. KP isn't the only jealous one. I think Zion deeply realizes that RJB landed safely. That's maybe why he didn't push for the Pelicans to trade for him. Zion probably wants to join RJB in NY in some future year.

And I wouldn't sleep on the chance that Iggy will be the starting SF with Barrett if the chemistry is as strong between them as advertised. Iggy channels a little DeBushere in his demeanor.

Another very good draft for the Knicks. I'm not feeling like they need any asymmetric FA signings this summer. What we have might just gel.

It’s a lovely fable but again we have to go to the math. The 85% chance Zion was not going to be knick speaks loud. You can’t know what Zion feels deeply either.
Barrett thought he was going elsewhere is also math. Knicks defied the odds. JR wanted NY over Memphis and tilted it fractionally but Memphis also wanted Morant. It worked out. Good for all of us. Nola is in a great situation. Is he thinking about his free agency yet? Nice thought if he thinking about NY. HOpefully he is not thinking about Brooklyn.
