Knicks · Knicks renounce contracts of Mudiay and Kornet (page 1)

CleaverGreene @ 6/26/2019 11:25 PM
I assume we might resign them as some point, no?

Nalod @ 6/26/2019 11:47 PM
We were never paying Mudiay 14mm. Kornet lasted longer than i thought. I hope he has an NBA career somewhere.
Both can comeback.
CrushAlot @ 6/27/2019 12:12 AM
I thought the Knicks signed Kornet to a two year deal for 8 mil. I will double check but I thought Woj tweeted it
CrushAlot @ 6/27/2019 12:21 AM
This is what I saw. Must be fake.

.... especially considering free agency doesn't start until Sunday 6pm and you can only make offers.

When can they actually sign? The 6th?

So we gave Mud a great opportunity to expand/improve his game, which he did, and we got absolutely nothing for that other than further alienation and less opportunity for our own lottery pick

not entirely true... we got a closer look. This season he played much better (but not good enough IMO) and frankly that would be something we'd have done historically. Get enticed by one 'average' season a la THJ. So we know better and Mudiay is gonna go somewhere else and get paid. If that happens agents with clients like Mudiay will push fo rthem to get traded to the Knicks. So I think we did gain some stuff. Goodwill and 'free' look at someone that many thought would be a star in the NBA

Correct. And many predicted this outcome. But Scott Perry was "very high on Mudiay" when Orlando instead chose to select Hezonja. Scott "double down on past failed ideas" Perry will just further the cycle of betting on losing players.

We completely devalued our first rounder Frank Ntilikina.... oh but Frank's a PHIL guy.

Perry can't have that.

Wasn't his cap hold about 14mm?? That is not happening. So what did we get?
reality is he is a decent NBA player in a role. Most certainly at a price lower then his cap hold. He tests the market, see's what he can get.
He knows us and we know him.
It is not bad cred to be a place where players improve. Mario we learned might be a better 2. He had a tough season but by the end he came on. He has done it before stat wise but this was fundamentally a better look from him.

Personally I don't have any vested interest in either returning. I'd just as soon give Braz Mario's minutes and Barrett can start at the two unless he is a total embarrassment. Then we have other problems.

If he can't find another job he'll come back on a one year deal for a lot less money. A lot less. Then his value looks different.

I agree with you. This is what the Knicks do. Grass is greener everywhere else.

GoNyGoNyGo @ 6/27/2019 1:58 PM
I like Luke...good stretch 5 and defends pretty well. Good handles and good paser for a big guy.

Mudiay turned some heads. He is still young. Good backup i think. Needs to improve his D.

The concept Fizdale had sucked. The man was brought here for one thing only and it’s going to be a colossal fail. He was suppose to attract free agents because he was in on the superstar crowd. Other than that he is a coaching hack.

I don't disagree there. I think the jury is still out but that said he hasn't proven himself either. Pinning Frank's shortcomings on Mudiay baffles me though

I agree Frank was bad it was obvious. But Mudiay had no business being in the team period.

I don't have an issue with the team auditioning guys like Mudiay, Vonleh, Mario, Burke, etc. They are lotto picks other teams gave up on. You don't expect much out of that type of player in most cases but occasionally you get a diamond in the rough. If the Knicks didn't have a bunch of crap on the roster we probably would resign Vonleh - but they are going this route because we have a bunch of crap on the roster. I try to give management/coaches 2.5 years. If we draft well and have a smart signing or too, the future will bright after this season. If they fumble well then I will vote to fire everyone

This what everyone does to Knicks players. They are never give a true shot at anything they are crap they suck. That’s bull. The Knicks give up on players with no rhyme or reason. We had Burk already from the previous year and they go and add Mudiay to the mix. They later add Allen and you have Smith. You see where this is going the lack of purpose is everywhere.

I don’t mind Vonleh it was a position of need. Mentally the Knicks are very weak minded they don’t see any of their pick through. It’s a developmental wasteland.

You're taking shots at his confidence, and not letting him grow into a role. The point of last year was letting kids grow and trying to help their confidence levels. If you have what you think is a talented player with confidence issues, bringing in tons of other players at the same position is not exactly the way to build that player's confidence.

Fizdale got rid of both kids who had played in Spain, Hernangomez and KP, which I find interesting given his attitude toward Gasol, played with Frank's confidence, and had an up and down relationship with Hezonja, who rarely got consistent playing time. Does he actually have an issue with European players, for some reason? Cannot understand why he would, but I find the plight of these 4 to be interesting.
