1 year contracts to maintain flexibility
2 year contracts to maintain flexibility
3 all star talent players. One organically grown, one via trade, and one via free agent.
These are goals. Zion-Durant-Kyrie was possible. Especially the latter two. For all the reasons we are reading today about the injury and history its ok to pass on Durant.
Kyrie is not a solo talent I want for the obvious reasons. It might mean the Nets do this.
Its super important that knicks don't react to outside competition. Have a plan centric on our franchise and stick to it. Opportunities will arise and when our war chest is appropriate to make a deal and not decimate the talent base then we do it. Based on the matrix presented of having three players by way of draft, trade and FA that is the first test. Two players via draft would be special. Pippen-Jordan. Curry-Klay. Abbot-Costello, West-Goodrich. Reed-Clyde.
Mavs are trying. Donic Drafted, KP via trade and now a free agent. Lakers could have two FA's (Lebron and ??) with Davis. its a bit stressed. Milwaukee has the freek.
Nothong is written in stone or should this be perceived as "law". But its a goal to understand and decisions should be kept in focus.

For current Knicks:
Star player via trade (AD) - was not enough assets
Star player via FA (KD/KL/KI...) - looks like roster is not ready to be attractive
Star player organically grown - just get some seedlings last 2 years which need time to grow
1 year contacts - TBD
2 year contacts - TBD
So its great 5-year plan and we are at the end of year 2...
You get many fans depressed...
I'd argue we need at least 2 homegrown stars to have enough of a talent base to contend and to make this place attractive enough without losing too many assets. Look at how deep the championship teams are, and look at where the Knicks are. We are still a few years away AND we need to get lucky with how our draft picks develop.

NO arguement. Before 2 you gotta get one. Three gets you GSW and yo don’t need high lotto to succeed!
