Knicks · No excuse not to be a playoff team next year (page 1)

There are plenty of solid players in free agency...millsap, Reddick, PJ Tucker or eric Gordon trade, Rondo, ect....couple of those pieces we are a playoff team ...whoever signs Durant will have him back playoff time watch and see!!
Nalod @ 6/29/2019 10:42 AM
I seriously doubt you bring him back for playoffs and if so doubt he’d be ready to be Kevin Durant again.
As for goals and potential this is a good conversation, but one to have in November.
Also what are other teams looking like?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love our young core to evolve with some veteran help.

What's the rush to be a playoff team. It's chip or bust for me. If we rush to a first round exit it will be counterproductive and potentially set us back a few years.

well with the lottery how it is why would you want to keep being at the bottom??if we keep finishing at the bottom that doesn't help attract anything but negative vibes

Lets see how FA plays out before and evaluate what we have before we set expectations.

Milsap, Reddick, PJ Tucker may all want to play for a contender or may want to seek long term deals. Knicks aren't a contender at the moment and only want to offer short term one year contracts. Its not a sure thing that a Reddick or Milsap level fa will be willing to take a one year deal even if its at 20mil. They may want more security and/or a higher chance at winning a chip.

On a side note, I think we could get Dragic and Whiteside from MIA in a cap dump, who both have one year left as a backup plan. Still would have around 20+mil left.

man, what would you want to absorb those guys? And what does Miami have to give up that would suffice making that deal?

arkrud @ 6/29/2019 12:21 PM
Playoffs or not is irrelevant.
The circumstantial players we will get on short term deals can be anybody and have 0 or big impact.
The goal is to amass assets and develop young talent.
Will it result in playoffs of not is not important.

How could you think we are a playoff team right now.

Miami has no assests left therefore not worth it

Have to go along with this.

Putting together a collection of Level B free agents, who might get us an 8th seed, at the expense of playing time for our younger talent, makes no sense to me.

A player like PJ Tucker might be a decent role model for our younger players, but
he's under contract this year and next, and the cost to Houston is not terrible, so who knows what the Rockets would want for him.

Not sure why someone like Milsap or Reddick would come to the Knicks unless we seriously overpay them, anyway.
If we don't get the FAs we really want, go with the kids...maybe sign a few locker room leader types to one year deals.

GustavBahler @ 6/29/2019 1:58 PM
Want to see the Knicks make a genuine effort to make the playoffs. Thats the important part. Want to see Fizdale implement a coherent system next season. Try to win as many games as possible, teach the kids how to win.

If it looks like the Knicks are out of the playoffs in the last month of the season (not sooner) then tank away, give some G-leaguers PT.

If Knicks are looking at Boogie and Rozier for one year prove it deals. Taking on Dragic and Whiteside for draft pick compensation would be a better play. Miami though has to give up its 2021 draft pick to the Suns for that Dragic trade way back. So I believe they can't move their 2020 or 2022 draft pick. They just drafted Tyler Herro but with the crowded back court would create more log jam than anything else for us.

Knicks could look right to swap picks in 2020, and if not exercised 2022, and rights to 2023 draft pick. Would free up around 15 mil in cap for Mia this season. But their interest would be dependent on the massive trade exceptions they would get as well.

If we dont make the playoffs again, then we're looking at major changes from top to bottom. So unless your satisfied with shuffling the deck for the 7th time in 6 season, we should be praying for playoffs, progress and stability..

It's not. Dolan isn't firing Mills, Mills isn't firing Perry, and Perry isn't firing Fizz. Only changes will be how they view Smith, Frank, Dotson, Trier after the season.
