IF he was a knick he’d be holding over our head to play for Qualified and then be free, or we sign him to the $150mm contract.
This for a guy who fatigued his rookie season, played half of the next at all star level but was fading, then blew out his leg.
By the time he returns he gets a max deal an has not set foot on an NBA floor in 20 months. He is unrelenting DIVA.
This is what we were looking at. Bank the franchise on that.
Fans banked on 14.5% chance we got Zion. Many of you promoted the tank with those Odds until there was a wake up that the lottery had changed.
Durant ours to be lost? Perhaps the injury. Do. You want to bank a max 190mm to a player returning from that injury and will be 18mos before he returns?
After that, what did we really lose? Kawhi, a head case turned into a prince? Perhaps.
Boogie? Middleton?
In our mind we lost things we could never get and did not deserve to get.
In reality the rebuild is running its way.
The FO did the best they could under the circumstances. We get average luck.
So lets be thankful.

BKN essentially traded Russell for Kyrie which should help attendance. Durant is a good starphuch as well. If healthy the solid base they have not and those two COULD with further luck contend.
I dig Kawahi. This is the same cool dude who as “Special” in SAS. Two chips, learned form Timmy, Parker and Many. Fact is this “Special” was there in college and high school. “Special” also checked out mentally on his team. I have read SAS still does not know what transpired and how it ramped up so fast and out. “Special” became a head case. Everything that could have gone right for him did. The trade worked because they catered to his every potential need and gave his body 22 games off. The trade for Gasol was awesome. Greene was awesome. Fantastic outcome to a calculated circumstance.
Kawhi is limping days after the. It’s a bit assumed his quad is bothersome. He played thru it but as he gets older is it a problem? How does he handle other issues? Is he a head case again or is he “Special”.
This is a two time series MVP who is at the top of his game NOW!
I regret the KP situation not for what he was, but the kind of player he had the potential to be.
This team is not about NOW. Our youth is now supplanted by more experienced players who are still 24ish and have upside. All our players but Gibson are upside guys. Not all will stick. But this team is deeper and the yoot that returns one year mature than last year. All with a 19 year old rookie. With a higher upside than Knox.
Kawhi is about NOW, Durant broke, Kyrie not our kind of guy and Russell might not be viewed as special enough to pay that kind of money. I might have wanted D’angelo more than the others because of the upside.
So in my mind I’m ok with what transpired. Fact is we can be a player the next two years with our rosters in free agency or Trades moving forward.
No one has gone to play with KP in Dallas. Just saying.
How good will Dallas be when KP is out for 30 games?

This. Also, not sure if and when Tim can come back from that stress fracture. Last I saw he was having a rod put in for support. No ill will towards Tim but his deal goes two more years and they need him.
