Knicks · The necessary move to make (page 2)

Hard to believe that some are upset that we won’t be the worst team in the NBA next year. We have upgraded the talent level from I drafted G league player and draft busts to legitimate NBA players to support our own drafted players. The roster is more balanced and the new guys are all short contracts that can be traded for assets. Sure we payed a premium for the shorter contracts but it doesn’t make them bad contracts.

You have to start somewhere, this seems like a rational next step for us in our climb from the cellar. People need to chill on the over the top freak out. We have decent players and maintained flexibility that a rebuilding team needs to make to clear the next hurdle.

Logical fans agree with this. But I think others are influenced by what fake news is saying about us

I agree the Knicks are better. But is it worth it at the expense of our home grown draft picks? Your basically putting together a team with no championship aspirations and diminished playing time for the home grown young players. Sorry If I think this a rebuild gone wrong.

I mean that's not really fair or true. they are not making these moves to tank. They clearly want us to be competitive without killing our flexibility longterm which some don't understand. Every team should have championship aspirations so not sure what point you are trying to make lol

What does flexibility give you? Have you not learned from the last two major free agency trends. You need to develop your home grown players they will bring this franchise back not the free agents we signed.

I don't see how they wont be developed? They neede to fill out the roster since we only had like 7 or 8 players signed. The kids are still the priority dude

Having veteran players on the team will help the kids develop the right way. We also have Mike Miller with the big club as an asst. Come on man, did you really think any or the tier 1 FA’s were coming here to play with the a bunch of unproven rookies and scrubs. Cudos to Perry for recognizing that so early in free agency, having a plan B as soon as the clock started and the balls to execute it knowing the blow back we were going to get.

Not when it’s burning up. I hope the Knicks do well and make a concerted effort to develop their young players. I make no bones about it never felt Fizdale is the guy that will help the young players move the needle.

To be fair to the Knicks, there are only a finite number of FAs willing to sign with them. ( Tier 1 and Tier 2 guys probably would not. ) Out of those guys who would sign, the Knicks are limited again by guys who would sign at contract terms the Knicks would find reasonable from a long term perspective ( i.e no crazy 4 year deals for Noah/Lee/Thomas/Hardaway Jr anymore)

You are right that the guys signed are NOT IDEAL. But part of the question is if it was the very best they could do with some very very very limited options.

Also to be fair to any front office, a team has to try to get better somehow. Many of these GMs know their efforts won't help them. But they have to try to do something.

None of the contracts given out were great signings. However none were toxic signings. Not ideal, but not toxic. Sometimes there are no good options, just a choice out of sort of mediocre ones at best.

Nalod @ 7/2/2019 7:07 AM
No long term deals. No dumb over the hill guys for big money. KP I regret but the reasoning was solid.
Durant might have wanted to be with KP. Do we give 300 mil to two guys that will have missed 38months back to back? Someone has to be the adult in the room. Its not Berman, its not Rainman1248.
Knicksfan @ 7/2/2019 8:19 AM
I wasn't sold on Fizdale as a coach last year.

This year, even if it isn't the star-studded team we hoped, the roster has been built to win as many games as possible. So THIS is the year we get to definitely see if Fiz is for good or not our coach.

Lets hope he shows us he was really the right choice for this young team.

Chandler @ 7/2/2019 10:40 AM
Sobering thought:

Nola which had Jrue and Randle and AD won 33 games. Do we really think we'll win more than that? We won the right to a crappier draft pick -- that's about it

time to clean house

Our FO was supposed to make the team a destination: instead we're cheering no toxic signings and they're all tradeable. (Of course anyone could have just signed them but didn't; our logic is someone would prefer to trade than buy as if this is a big thing...) (BTW I am glad we didn't sign KD or KI just noting the fallacy). Last year Casey, Budenholzer and Clifford were available; we scored Fizzle whose best asset at this point may be his wife

Our charismatic Coach alienated KP (who certainly deserves blame as well), demoralized Frank, and got Mud's shooting % up (anyone hearing anything other than crickets about Mud); our prized lottery pick looked studly in Summer League but once coach go a hold of him he turned into a lost soul, chucking shots and losing his man on D.

Our passing got worse, our defense got worse. Anyone remember Mill's words at his opening press conference saying how the team was going to pass to get a better shot, play D. Mills never sent that memo to CS apparently

This year will be different though -- just wait until the secret plan is unveiled

thats not sobering thought.

Where Jrue/AD healthy last year? Their season was a disaster. AD quit and was hurt. JRue was hurt. They made trades. I mean take a look at what they did last year.

Did Fizdale visit KP in EU? Fizdale was the guy who alientated KP? Really?

Saw an article about Nola and Payton last year. At one point in the season Nola was 9-2 when Payton played and 11-20 when he did play. I am going to try to post the article in the Payton thread.
