The Brooklyn Nets have stunningly fired coach Kenny Atkinson, the team announced Saturday morning.

Atkinson, who has coached the team since 2016, will be replaced by assistant coach Jacque Vaughn.

“After discussions with Kenny about the progress of the season, we mutually agreed that a coaching change would be in the best interest of the team,” General Manager Sean Marks said in a statement. “This was an extremely difficult decision, however the organization believes it is one that is necessary at this time.

“Kenny was instrumental in developing our players and building the identity and culture we have become known for over these past four seasons. The foundation he helped put into place here is one that we will continue to build on in the coming seasons. We are forever grateful for all of Kenny’s hard work and dedication to the Nets and the Brooklyn community. Kenny, Laura and the Atkinson family will always remain a part of our Nets family and we wish them nothing but the best in the future.”

Where I'm at with this....Kyrie and KD presence push the Nets into eastern conference title contenders. Guess the nets feel they need another coach to push them over the top.

Thanks Martin, much appreciated In my mid 50s. The survival rate doesnt worry me personally, its the risk of permanent lung damage associated with the virus. I was planning to move to Seattle soon, which blows. Not a good time for that.

I watched an interview with the head of the Baylor coronavirus task force. He said the death rate from the virus over 70, was 10-15 percent in Wuhan. And the docs there were sounding the alarm. Something you might want to pass on to your elderly relatives. To be careful. Most people dont know that, relying on the 2 percent estimate overall.
