Knicks · Mills will never go but... (page 1)

Rick pitino says he wants to help build a team maybe get back into coaching. How about him as p.o.b.o. keep Perry as g.m. and Mike Miller as head coach?
ccch @ 11/14/2019 8:44 AM
I am all for getting rid of Fiz but I think there's more than that. It all starts at the top. We know we can't get rid of Dolan, but we sure as heck can dump Mills and Perry. They were the ones who put together this roster and staff. So we should let the new powers put together the next staff which means Fiz should remain until they are jettisoned. Problem is how long will this take? It's really unbelievable how this franchise can put together such a dysfunctional organization!

Pitino blew his chance in Boston as team president 25 year ago. He is a very good coach. Phil was a good coach.
How do we hand the reigns to Pitino with the confidence he’d perform? He has been out of the NBA for decades.
Fans like SUccessful people. We like them as game commentators also. They communicate the game and install confidence but as execs its a whole new ball game. Kerr sucked as GM of Suns. Hell of a coach!!! Not to say definitively who succeeds or not but I’ll give Perry his change for a few years. Culture here is bad. This can’t be fixed Over night until a new owner comes in.

Having never built anything on his own Dolan will never sell the team,he inherited it and has to prove himself. Notice he always says ppl are drunk? That's cause the only thing he ever did was give up alcohol.
Pitino has been in Greece I think and as an executive led that team to a championship, I know euroball different from NBA. But he is a proven evaluator of young talent and can groom young men fir the NBA. And I think Perry n his staff draft half well.
Plus pitino knows lots of strippers to give the guys.

Never mind he was executive last year but is coaching this year.

Tell me again why Perry has to be around. This current coach and roster is also a reflection of him. Why does he get a pass? He was never good so why are we hold him up in a pedestal. He really has done nothing special here but a second round pick of Mitchell. We got hosed in the KP deal. Lucky to walk out of a Melo deal with basically MR. other than that what has he done but give out one year contract and create a mercenary mentality.

I agree. Outside of Mitchell Robinson, who you could certainly say was a lottery selection after the way he played, Perry has been pretty bad. Trier was a nice find, but he's a fringe rotation guy at best. Knox may turn into something down the road, but his BB IQ leaves a lot to be desired.

He overpaid every single free agent he signed and brought in 3 heavy isolation power forwards. One I can understand, but this roster is so poorly put together, it doesn't fall on the coach. Fizdale has been bad, but without a competent plan it's very difficult to keep a lockeroom full of veterans happy if you can't play everyone.

Mills is the ultimate yes man and smooth enough to keep himself out of the firing squad. He's got that Isiah quality to him that's kept him employeed here for far too long.

I said this in another thread - would love Pitino as a coach - he did so well with the Knicks back when, and I think he would do well with this roster.

I think you give Perry more time because I like his moves - he's gotten talent. I think they should be better than they are, and that's on Fizdale.

No doubt, Perry & Mills & Dolan own part of the blame.

It's sadly easier to change the coach and try to reboot than push an owner out or change the FO and players.

What is it that Yogi Berra said “Its getting late early out here”.

Perry draft picks, I am actually pretty happy with. Let's look at his picks.

2017
Kevin Knox. Looking at who was picked after him in the 1st round, I don't see anybody there that I would take over Knox.
Mitchell Robinson. Great find! Could end up being 1 of the best 2nd round gems in NBA history.
Allonzo Trier. Another great find as a UDFA right after the draft.

2018
RJ Barrett. A no brainer pick. He has a chance to be a franchise player.
Ignas Brazdeikis. not sure about him. Haven't seen enough.

Now, his FA signings. Hmmm. This is where it really is hard to judge. Great contracts. I don't care that he overpaid but these are 1 year contracts so its not hurting the team.

I wouldn't mind if he stays.

Steve Mills? Dude needs to go.

I agree, but I also think he had the same GM role as Mills had under Phil.

These overpaid role players are the same kind of contracts THJ and Baker got, which came before perry.

I knew PERRY was going to be MILLS FLUNKY when he was introduced at his press conference, he basically said it in so many words. I thought Perry's main purpose was to IRON things out with Melo and have him either stay and play out his contract, or waive his NTC, he did neither. He DID absolutely nothing to MEND the KP issues, not even a wknd visit to Latvia

I think the only thing perry did on his own was convince MILLs to sign Payton, trade for Mudd, and sign Mario, all below avg moves

To be fair, Perry's job was to save Mills from being phucked by Morey in a Melo trade, and he succeeded. No one here thought Melo was staying. Melo was mature about it and didn't make waves in the media, but every indication he have pointed toward him leaving. Perry handled that situation well. Could Perry have handled KP better? Probably, but no one knows everything that went down

No doubt, Mills is the face of this organization. But Perry is the architect of the basketball decisions. Lance Thomas would still be here on a 2 year, $5 million contract if Mills were running things. Our signings are reminiscent of the signings Sac made a season ago. Also, Mario and Payton are clearly Perry's guys. The only reason we traded for Mudiay instead of Payton two years ago is Perry pivoted when the Magic tried to squeeze us for more second round picks.
