Knicks · What is Dennis Smith Jr's trade value? (page 1)

Not saying we should def move him - but supposedly the Timberwolves are interested... I'm not a fan of his game but he still doesn't seem right. Last season we saw the athleticism and potential - this season he either seems injured or struggling mentally. While he has the highest ceiling of any of our PGs - not sure he will be able to get there (on this team). I'd consider moving him if we could get a 1st rounder back - but think his market value is a 2nd rounder at this point. Curious if others value him similarly and/or think we should consider moving him before the deadline.

2nd round pick at best.

If thats the case, then I wouldnt trade him. Would rather wait until the end of the season. Plenty of games left to raise his trade value. If we do end up sending Toronto 1st round picks for Ujiri, the more 1st rounders we have the better. Smith jr might finish the season like a starting PG. So many ups and downs over his career, not placing any bets.

Do we always have to sell low?

no and we shouldnt here. There is zero urgency to moving DS. There should be plenty of urgency to get him playing better. The Hawks are the worst defensive team in the league. We scored 140 for a reason and nobody is worse on D than Young. We did exactly what we should have done.. taken it to them. What a difference good guard play makes!

DSjr playing well is much more valuable than the 2nd rounder etc... he's an absolute project, but with any consistency could be a great scorer off the bench and totally energize a team

You only move DSJr for a 1st round pick. If not then keep him and build him up

Agreed. Would you do some form of a DSJr for Mo Bamba trade?

Yes, without hesitation. We could use another Rim protector especially one with some range

Hoping Wooten gets a chance to be the other rim protector. He may end up on another team after this weekend’s showcase.

Or buy high? LOL?
The Nalodian response would really you bad deals are made by those who panic. Phil wanted to trade KP but Dolan panicked. When we traded KP we had lost leverage over the situation. KP is playing well at the moment which makes it all worse for us. Dennis is at a career low. Its looks bad. Its a fluid evaluation based on Hardaway, CLee, KP, Dennis and the two unknown draft picks we receive.

Can we wait on trade threads when and until DSJ runs off at least 10 really good games? [Seeing as 10 games is the new Knick yardstick]

Bagley does a blog with this stuff. Today he discusses Frank. Nothing to report on really.
