Knicks Hire David Blatt As Basketball Operations Consultant
DEC 18, 2019 12:55 PM
The New York Knicks have hired David Blatt as a basketball operations consultant.
Blatt has a long friendship with Steve Mills dating back to their time together at Princeton.
Blatt previously worked in the NBA as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
REALGM STAFF REPORT
I really hope Miller does a good enough job that it makes it hard for mgmt to fire him. This looks like a way to ease Blatt into being the next head coach. Hope not. Doing this now , when things are looking up, increases my desire to see Mills fired.
I thought he has been diagnosed with MS but if he is living stateside and can work in a limited capacity its a good thing.
Suppose we don't know length of contract or if it is liked to Mills being employed. He can't be anything but a good resource at any level.
Best part is when The Rainman reads it he will no doubt jump to all kinds of assumptions regarding Mills. That every day MIlls employment brings even the slightest pain to Knicks1248 is just the smallest consolation prize to the shytshow that is our season.
Nalod said he prefers Mills picks his successor. Maybe Blatt is it?
The Princeton mafia is not complete!!!!

He states in the press release that he's retired from coaching.
WTF does this mean? Are they saying they need help with trades and drafting?

Sorry to hear Blatt has MS. Glad to hear he isnt up for HC. Still dont like this move, looks like Mills might be setting up Perry as his next fall guy. The timing sucks.

Doesn't look like much. Think Mills and Perry are just helping a friend out.

I really hope thats the case. I dont doubt Blatt's BBall knowledge, its how he's applied it. I would watch my back if I were Perry though. Mills knows he's on the hot seat, and he knows how to put it under someone else. How he's lasted this long.
I hope this is just a favor and he’ll be gone when we fire mills

I was thinking the same thing. I disagree with Begley’s report that this has nothing to do with a front office shake up. Too much has happened during Mill’s tenure to just think this is an olive branch to a friend. Hopefully there’s not anything to this but the guy in charge is a snake and a survivor.

This!! And the fact that he is still allowed to make moves tells me that Mills is here to stay...
team is responding to coaching change nd playing better, isn’t that a good thing?
Why wish misery and a FO change, why not wish success and deal with Miller as head coach?

We? You and Jimmie on a first name basis are you?
At this point, Mills could probably fire Miller after a 20 game win streak, pork 12 interns in the back of Marbury's truck, and sheehit on Dolan's guitar strings and he's still not getting fired. If he's ever gone, it will be because he gets a better gig somewhere else. Not sure how that would happen either, though...
Glass half full: this is a good move. Guy knows basketball better than Mills does. More smart people in a room is a good thing
Glass half empty: Mills is a sinister, evil, little prick and he's up to something sneaky
I don't like this FO at all but the one thing i do give them credit for is their drafting thus far. If Mills throws Perry under the bus I'll be pissed. If we/team throw both out I wouldn't complain but in that case it would be because the next President/Head of BBall operations/whatever should be able to pick his GM and coach (which should be Miller IM) -- based on small sample size)
Warkenten is still listed on the knicks staff. This is a former Exec of the year with the Nuggets.
LOok it up.
With some of the more illustrious names in our past one would have thought they would have had more effect. HOF or near HOF coaches and execs. Is it Dolan ignores them? Don Nelson lasted 56 games with his collision about Ewing.
Funny, neophyte JVG still does a good job and Dolan Empowered. Just an opinion. Old news.
I root for all knick coaches to succeed.
If Blatt helps the process this season so much the better.
