NY trade rumors = Click bait.

Btw, would anyone actually be surprised that players want out of such a great organization?

Question, we trade our unicorn for what the FO thought was a future difference maker (One who had a decent second half with us) and then you continue his development by signing every PG with a pair of sneakers? Injuries aside, what kind of plan did we have with this kid and how exactly did we follow through? Same goes for Knox, Trier and Frank(when Bullock takes his minutes). Are we going to sign 3 or 4 SG next year to help develop(take minutes from) RJ,

Our plan changes every 2 years. (Coaches every year) How does anyone think players want to be a part of such short sighted management that has no real plan nor sticks to one?

Back in the day a player had to prove he earned minutes. I know DSJ has been through a lot of adversity. But the good players, the so-called leaders at the point guard position play through it. I want a guy who sees a player like Payton signed on a one year deal and says eff it. Not a guy who cried when Luka Doncic comes in and accommodate his game or a guy who gets shook when a savvy vet comes in. I don't think DSJ looks right, but I hope he appreciates the fact that he's been playing like crap. Earn the damn minutes. If he can't step up to the challenge of Elfrid and Frank, then he's not built for this city.

So why didnt they give up on Frank?

Didn't they try to trade Frank?

Yes. Didn't agree with that as well.

Btw, feel,"back in the day" they did not give up on 21 year old players in the first 20 games. Specially ones that averaged 15 and 5 their first 5 years.,

Who's giving up on who tho? The Knicks extended him and give him time to get his game together. DSJ is the one reportedly pushing for a trade. And that 15 and 5 was obviously the result of getting free reign on a bad team. I wasn't calling for a DSJ trade in the past, either. I wanted to see him build his value up. Now, I have serious doubts about his mental toughness.

https://nypost.com/2019/12/28/knicks-den...

Reports are just bloggers getting clicks. They know its already on the wall about Knick fans and their feelings for Smith Jr. Easy bait. Most of it coming from fans that still think its a Frank or Smith thing. And Dallas was a chip winner compared to this team. So dont get the "bad team" excuse.

As mentioned, if a team is rebuilding, wants to develop young players and trades their Unicorn for one, why would they give up on them at the beginning of the year? Just makes no,logical sense. Watch we trade Smith, Knox and Frank. Its a joke how this FO changes directions every time Dolan or whinning fans throw a fit.

Morris and Randle would've been the best players on that Dallas team. They were bad who gave a rookie a free reign with the hope of snaring someone in free agency. I know, it sounds familiar DSJ gave the right answers in the latest Post article, so who knows? But we extended the guys and gave him a bucketful of minutes that he didn't deserve. How is that giving up on a guy? If we're to believe reports, and I am doubtful of them, he's the one who's giving up. He needs to play better.

Because Frank hasn't given up on them and gone diva.

If we can get a 1st round pick for him then we should pull the trigger as I have started to lose confidence that this kid can be a starting pg. he seems to lack mental toughness and fire and his defense is still mediocre at best.

No we lack the understanding of how to develop young players...That's why they all want to leave

I promise you if frank was getting his minutes, he would be complaining to.

You promise? Frank was benched at the beginning of the season. Was on Fizdale's doghouse. Frank was the only healthy PG at one point and he didn't start. Got an 18 sec stint at one game. Some middle school type shit. Frank didn't complain 1 bit. But...you know him so much that he would complain if he didn't get his minutes? Ok. Got it.

Macri elaborates on his tweet on the Film School pod. He said his source said that Morris and Portis would prefer to be traded. Also said it appears DSJ will be traded. Said there is a mutual agreement between management and Smith to move him.

wow, surprised at Morris. Thought he had signed with the Knicks in part to be close to family in Philly but maybe that was just a part of it, looks like the $ and now playoffs are a priority. Makes sense.

I've come around on Julius a bit, wish he were more engaged on the defense but he has rounded out on offense. Only a small smattering of games but this is the player the Knicks thought they were signing. He is a power downhill player who can improve on 3pt shooting and not a power point forward.

I've come to not like Portis. His defense is atrocious and there is nothing special about his offense. Weird player to me who is bound to be a role player off bench but it's like he hasn't really embraced it yet. Way overpaid at $15M obviously. More like a mid level or less guy.

TPercy @ 12/30/2019 12:31 PM

If there are some major moves, hope Miller will still be on the short list for HC next season. Never know how these trades will affect the team. Already showing more than Fizdale.

Dont know if DSJr really asked to be traded. If he did, seems more interested in inheriting a PG spot than earning it, by besting the competition for the job.

Surprised Morris wants to be traded so soon, but he's playing like an all-star. Cant blame him for wanting a bigger stage. Randle is playing great but Id still trade him for a 1st rounder. Would be great to have more first rounders to develop or use in trades.

the dude backed out of his commitment at the 11th hour. He's about getting paid and if he can get paid the same as we would pay him in the offseason, he's gone. Portis is the same guy he's always been. Randle is playing like a big boy instead of playing out of position under Fizzle

The moment Knick management decided to sign a bunch of NBA journeymen and duplicate some of our positions, it was pretty predictable that someo players would get antsy and would request a trade at some point.

We traded the best prospect we had in years for DSJ, and not even a year later, looks like we are going to move him too? The moment we signed Payton, it was just a matter of time. Why sign a fringe starter when you already have 2 21 yr old pgs who still need developing?

Why sign Ellington and Bullock when you still have a 2nd and 3rd yr player in Zo and Dot that need developing?

Morris signed here for the money! Why back out of a commitment with one of the best franchises in the league, to come here if it ain't about the money?

I do think management signed these guys hoping to catch lightening in a bottle and compete for a playoff spot or trade the 1 yr deals for picks at the deadline. The problem with this philosophy is it takes away developmental mins from our young players and its difficult to build an actual team with a bunch of 1 yr players who are gone in the summer or in feb.

Back problems arw no joke (from personal experience) Signing Payton was insurance. Besides, if you see yourself as an elite PG, or an underrated one. A journeyman PG should be no threat to you in your third season in the league. Smith jr just got outplayed and outworked.

Money and a ring, I imagine. Morris could stay in NY for the season, and put up numbers good enough for a big payday, somewhere. Not going to get a ring in NY anytime soon.

I think the moment the Knicks signed Payton, Smith lost some confidence in management. Call it weak minded, but it's a generational thing that I see with today's athletes. They would rather flee and find a team that will give them mins rather than stay and fight for a spot. I see it with the HS athletes today. Its unbelievable how many HS bb athletes I see transfer for better opportunities.

The athletes ain't the only one who are impatient. Under Dolan, we lack the proper patients to develop a plan and follow it all the way through. Sports fans have become impatient in terms of wanting to fire coaches, fire managememt and trade young players at the first sign adversity.

Not enough confidence in himself as well. Might be on to something because Smith jr wouldnt practice with the team in the offseason, including Payton. The kid has dealt with sone tough breaks. I dont blame an 18 year old for getting PO'd that he was told he was the franchiae player for the Mavs, and the next minute he's told something else. Doncic said they got along great. Wish Smith jr had approached the competition with other PGs differently. Different situation than in Dallas. Not going to win the number one spot that way. Seems like he's looking for a place where they will just hand it to him. We'll see.
