Every mock, including the over the top ones, has going in the second round.

Yes! With a name like that and a shot like THAT he is exactly what we need. At any pick

This mock quickly falls apart after the top 3. I'd be happy with the outcome, but Deni isn't falling to us at 8.

It's their Big Board, not mock draft

Some interesting takes here -- on Deni for instance whose poor free throw shooting is used as an indicator for future effectiveness. Really, everyone has some question mark, blind spot, hole in their game. Most are very young and a lot of their value is based on "upside." Think Frank, Knox, RJ even. I suspect whomever we draft will be given the same impatience. But also to me there is no reason to give up much of anything to improve the draft position. How much more of a sure thing is say Deni than who will be there at 8 or 27 even? Lamelo also -- no guarantees.

I'm not really a fan of Deni, I'm not sure why he's gotten so much love from bball writers the last few months and his FT numbers scare me (as well as the possible implications for how this bodes for his 3 pt shot going forward). If he can't nail down his shooting, can't hit free throws, isn't a great defender and isn't particularly athletic, that's el-busto territory!

Ahh, sorry for the confusion. Hal is probably the most controversial take at #4. I think he'll be good, but his J might need a few years to get up to snuff. He's almost like Novak at this point. He'll kill you when he's open, but it doesn't take much to negate that by running him off the line. Obi is also pretty polarizing. Obi's floor is probably a better passing Lee Nailon. His defensive technique is so bad that I think he's defending ghosts sometimes. Can you build a team concept good enough to prop Obi's defense up to the point it's not that huge a liability? Will his offense even be good enough to invest the energy? You can make a good case that Obi should be around #19.

smackeddog @ 11/9/2020 12:41 PM
Which players HAVEN'T we been linked to so far? Only one I can think of is Anthony Edwards - anyone else?

Personally, the only one I'd be excited for would be Kira Lewis, but I'd be content with Okoro, Vassell, Hayes (though I have reservations) and Patrick Williams

Thanks for posting...

Some observations:

Patrick Williams has surpassed Vassell not only on the SI board, but according to most informed observers.

There is a strong possibility that Obi will be there when we pick. Do the Knicks brass snatch him up?

Tyrell Terry is surging up most boards with a bullet, due to the added weight and size. If this draft takes place in June, Terry is second round pick.

Cole Anthony continues to slide down most big boards or pre-draft boards. Anthony was the number 1 pg prospect in the country last year at this time. He may be the "chip on my shoulder" player of this years draft similar to Mitchell who was over looked. If he slides out of the lottery, he becomes great value. He is more talented than he showed at Carolina.

Jalen Smith is vastly underrated. He has lotto talent for sure.

Jaden McDaniels is one of the most intriguing players in this draft. His potential is off the charts. In this draft, he's the type of player you swing for the fences for. I would love for the Knicks to package 27 and the 2nd round pick to move up and grab him.

Josh Green is the type of player who will expand his game in the NBA. In the right system, he will be a very good player.

Haliburton's contributions go far beyond his jumper. He almost always makes the correct reads, has a nose for the ball, is constantly moving and cutting when he doesn't have the ball, he makes his team mates better, has a great bb IQ and he will stuff the stat sheet for sure. He is a really good piece to have.

Can’t recall a draft as wide open as this. GS loves everyone. Minn says nothing. The posturing is interesting as is anyone’s take on the draft.

Agree, up to a point. But the fact that he doesn't really attack the paint will mean he'll have to be more reliant on his J. Think Lonzo Ball. I never considered Lonzo a bust because I knew he had aspects of his game that needed to tighten up. I see Hal in the same light. Yes, his game has many positives, but he'll have to tighten up other aspects in order to maximize his game. It could take one year or it could take three. I could see a guy like Maxey making a bigger splash in his rookie year. Not saying Maxey will be better. I honestly don't know who will have a better career. But I feel Maxey will be able to run, push and attack more effectively from the get go.

Deni is a solid athlete, especially when you consider his size. His baseline to baseline speed is definitely up to snuff, for the NBA.He's also an enthusiastic defender. He moves his feet and bangs. He'll be relegated to guarding forwards and, eventually centers as he fills out. The shooting is a cause for concern. He sucked in the early part of the season, but showed improved as the season went on. He also made adjustments to his form after his team returned after the Covid lockdown. He has far less holes in his game than Obi Toppin. Now if Obi turns into a beast that scores at historic level of efficiency, it won't matter. But what are the chances of that happening?

BigDaddyG @ 11/9/2020 6:40 PM

Good podcast. Givony thinks Leon scoops up Obi w/o hesitation if Toppin is on the board.

Allanfan20 @ 11/9/2020 8:20 PM
Not good for Anthony Edwards. This falls right in line with his reputation.
