We not in the room where it happens.

Maybe if you get two 2nd rounders it makes a little more sense.

But you make a move to get 25 and 33 to then just flip it for an unknown pick 2 years away?

Still seems like we are missing something.

2023 looks like it is going to be the year of vaunted double draft. I think a lot of team will be stockpiling picks in 2023. Not mad at this.

Sorry but at this point every reporter is confirming it.

Woj or Shams though?

Not yet it seems. But like the rest of the world, including NY beat reporters saying they confirmed and still can’t make sense of it.

The beat writers are being told it's done but nobody knows the details amd no national outlets have it yet. Bizarre...

Of course everyone could just be going off the one report.

The double draft is 2022..... unless they pushed it back again.

Some sleep later and it still makes no sense.

Oh well

MaTT4281 @ 11/19/2020 7:00 AM
I'm still wondering if there's more to this Clippers trade, perhaps basic agreement is there as part of a larger trade?

Hoping anyways. Head scratcher at best, Oturu seems to be regarded as a solid pick at 33.

Knicksfan @ 11/19/2020 7:19 AM
And it’s not like you are trading a lower second rounder for a possibly higher one.

It’s really confusing

Chandler @ 11/19/2020 7:31 AM
i don't know the rules but wondering if it's part of a larger deal; otherwise makes little sense.

lots of other teams would have liked that high second rounder, last several years there have been some very decent players in that range

GustavBahler @ 11/19/2020 8:22 AM
If there wasnt a deal on draft night to bring in a vet. They still might be trading one or more of our veteran bigs. And adding Otoro would be too much of a logjam.

If a deal(or no deal) keeps Mitch on the bench, it might explain why they didnt draft a backup center.

Seemed to me that they were consistently treating draft picks as options in case certain players were available. Once they were not available, they re-evaluated the value of the pick. They didn’t really want a third rookie on the team this year (and said as much).

So, it looks like they did a lot of running around to end up in the same place, but they had a lot more options to land a player that dropped the way they handled it. They consistently put themselves in a better position with more options with each move.

When they traded the 33, I think they didn’t like anything available versus a roster spot and instead took the best residual value they could get.

Chandler @ 11/19/2020 8:38 AM
i'm not buying that a 2023 second rounder which lands who knows where is the best we could have gotten for a way at the top second rounder in a draft where there was a lot of parity from the mid to later middle first round

something has to be cooking or this was a flub up

Pushed back due to pandemic. People are speculating it'll be 2023.

Mystery solved (partially): the Knicks wanted a player that ended up being taken by the Hornets just a pick earlier. They didn’t fancy anyone else so they made the quick move with LAC.

While if that’s the case, that’s a little shortsighted by NY with talent still available and with a valuable second rounder considering its #33. But it shows two nice things: the Knicks had a clear idea of who they wanted and weren’t messing around, and the Knicks had ease making deals with teams. I mean, getting the 23 for the 27 and 38, only to then not needing the 23 and turning it into the 25 and 33 and then getting the future pick for the 33, that’s activity we aren’t used to in NY.

Definitely a wild end to a wild night, but a promising first showing for the new front office.
