I forget the report, it might've been hoops hype, but it's been reported that this season had the longest period between trades in years.
Here it is: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2019/12/left...

Leftovers Notes From Cavs/Jazz Trade
December 24th, 2019 at 8:38am CST • By Luke Adams
When the Cavaliers and Jazz make their Jordan Clarkson/Dante Exum swap official, it will end one of the longest trade droughts in NBA history. The Rockets and Thunder formally finalized their Chris Paul/Russell Westbrook deal on July 16, so it has been 161 days since a trade has been completed.

Several weeks ago, Bryan Kalbrosky of HoopsHype noted that the league was already in the midst of its longest trade drought since 1968. That year, there was a 159-day gap between trades, so this year’s drought has now exceeded that one. However, it should finally come to an end today.

Probably because of the unusually huge amount of movement in the offseason

That, plus the number of teams who have already carved out cap space and picks. Also, picks aren't valued as much because of the new draft format. Hoops Hype also noted in another article that teams are leaning more on the G-League to supplement roster needs.

I really wish I could gauge what a CP3 trade would look like. I think Portis/Morris/Elf works really well for both teams.

CP3 is playing well, but contract is horrific. The $84mm he's due next two years is crippling to their budget and they are not a luxury tax team. Morris and Scroder replace CP3/Fergeson in the starting line up. Elf is the backup PG. They can do what they want with Portis. For the Knicks I am looking to net 2 first rounders (I believe they have 8 extra #1s from the Westbrook/PG trades), and I view CP3 as a good floor general who can run an offense and score and a stop gap for the next two years while we hopefully load the pipeline up

Unfortunately, I think if they’re worrying about payroll, OKC will trade Adams to Atlanta rather than part with assets to get rid of CP3

That makes sense. I don't see them being able to get a big name free agent to sign there. They might be able to put themselves in a position to trade for a star if it worked cap wise.

OKC are in such a strong position, they can either keep their zillion first rounders or they can outbid anyone when a disgruntled star becomes available- I’m very jealous of them

yea but OKC actually need Adams and he's one year at $27mm left. CP3 has Schroder playing behind him and makes $84mm next two years. That is not the same level of cost savings. Who plays the 5? Noels? OKC is 7th. 1 game out of the 5th seed and 2.5 game out of the 3rd seed. Why would OKC dump Adams? He's young and they love him

yea but they want to LEAVE OKC, not go there.

They have a treasure trove for sure. Boston had similar.

We have 2 extra firsts from Dallas. Getting a couple more for taking $84mm puts us at 4 extra and gives us a floor general. Not a lot of teams out there can take his salary on. Its a unique pairing

What’s the purpose of Chris Paul on this team at this very moment?

OKC won’t trade CP3 unless he wants to leave because he’s happy there and he’s mentoring Gilgeous Alexander, who has a great future and was the guy I wanted to draft originally over super scrub Kevin Knix. And the Thunder have a much better team and future than the Knicks. They don’t need to make any moves at the moment. They’re set up exceptionally well.

Nalod @ 1/28/2020 11:58 PM
OKC makes the playoffs they are financially better off.
Dude was wearing it out with Clippers and did not get on with Harden despite great success when both played.
He is a salty one but he is a true pro taking the money and very much being a good hard leader for a team exceeding its expectations because of him.
All that, but I don’t want that contract on the knicks.
smackeddog @ 1/30/2020 10:44 AM
I see Buddy Hield is still on the bench and only got 23mins last game despite his monster game the game before, guess the Kings have decided to go with Bogdanovic (unless they are trying to max Bogdanovic's trade value.
smackeddog @ 1/30/2020 10:47 AM
Alright people, what do you thinks going to happen this time next week?

a) We just do a minor trade for a 2nd rounder or two
b) We move Morris for a first
c) we give up our paltry farm, and future assets for a bum/empty stats/ player who can't defend or shoot
d) we pull off a major trade that has all Knicks fans rejoicing

I think d) is out of the question given what's available and the assets we have. I'm assuming by major, you mean a star player. I think Pills have also shown that they aren't really considering option c) at this time. I'm not so sure about option b) after last night. Option a) is always on the table, so it wouldn't surprise me.
fitzfarm @ 1/30/2020 1:11 PM
How about

Morris To LAL KCP, Quinn Cook, boogie
DSJR to Charlotte for Monk
Portis to
Next year
Boogie, Mitch
Randal, Gibson
Barrett,knox
KCP,Dot,monk
Top five lotto,Frank,cook

I honestly have no idea who wants our garbage but keeping Morris would be a terrible franchise move .

We are lotto bound play the kids and move the vets either for draft picks or players that can contribute to the future

BigDaddyG @ 1/30/2020 2:05 PM
I'd rather play RJ and Dot at the 2 over bringing in KCP. I like Cook. But, again, I'd rather give minutes to the guys we have. I think we should move Morris, but I'd rather have a first rounder, any first rounder, than those guys.

I hear ya, I’m just trying to figure out how we can move some of these guys for positive reinforcements... portis I’m stumped on who could we get back?

I'll settle on a second for Bobby. Maybe some young struggling dude like Monk. Salary match might be a problem and, if I were Pills, I'd be unwilling to take back junk with lengthy deals.

OKC were planning on moving him last year to get out of his salary, but he played so poorly that season, his value was zero. He's played well in his role this year, so who knows if they move him. As long as we don't trade for him

Chandler @ 1/31/2020 10:54 AM

I think Morris is gone. He is exactly what a lot of contending teams want, and he has upped his value through the opportunity he has been given

I like what he has done for the Knicks but the smart thing is to move him because his timeline doesn't fit with ours. Could see Lakers, Rockets, Mavs, Bucks and Grizzlies being interested -- not sure what they could return

i don't think any of our other players will draw any real interest or provide something of value in return. DSJ for example might return different dead wood -- change of scenery trade

Honestly, if you were on another team who else would draw real interest. Randle is showing that the reports on him were true -- low BB IQ.

Frank could draw interest from a smart team but we should just say NO; someone will look to fleece us

Sambakick @ 1/31/2020 11:01 AM
Just keep in mind, If we trade Frank just imagine the damage that would do to his confidence.

For those who think he will blossome on some other squad, he will have to get over being traded first.

And with Frank that could take a while. This is not Frank hate. Just a commentary on his confidence being fragile.

His confidence bing fragile is not Frank hate, even Frank homers know that the kid has confidence issues.

I haven't noticed any confidence issues this year. First year they were all over the place on offense but not on defense.

Dude stood at a standstill with LeBron. Has bodied up to Harden and any other player you put in front of him. Tried to dunk on KP and Dwight.

He just can't shoot but he does take those shots. Just has to learn to make

He also needs to further bring his inner dawg out, it comes and goes. Take the ball away from Randle. Probe the defense. Don't defer to Randle and Morris and others.

For me it's a kind of confidence but not the one you are talking about, more like stamping out a larger role for himself and also performing better at it.
