Knicks · Would you give up 2 Dallas Picks for Masai pre 2020 draft? (page 1)

BigDaddyG @ 2/4/2020 12:33 PM
No, but I guess it's better than the unprotected lottery pick we're going to give up. We've all seen the results of Dolan when he's on tilt.
Uptown @ 2/4/2020 12:37 PM
I would give up a Dallas pick but not ours...
fishmike @ 2/4/2020 12:37 PM
Is Masai the only capable of building a sane FO and subsequent basketball team?

No. If anything I would let Perry keep the seat warm until Masai is available to come here with a shelf full of assets.

smackeddog @ 2/4/2020 12:46 PM
No, he's good but he can't conjure something out of nothing- we need those picks as we don't have anythings see going for us.

If the price is 2 firsts, I pass. I'd rather have Morey for free (bet he gets canned) or see if Presti is available.

Correct- what's the rush? What would he be able to do over the next 12 months? There are no FA's of note this offseason, there are no players or bad contracts we need to get rid of. Hopefully we have a high pick in the draft this year, then Wait out the year, then he can come without an extra year of sucking on his resume, but with another high pick and the dallas pick.

fitzfarm @ 2/4/2020 12:55 PM
No just wait till his contract expires and give H20 a shot
SupremeCommander @ 2/4/2020 1:00 PM
No, but I would give up one of them
Nalod @ 2/4/2020 1:10 PM
What is the precedent? Miami gave Knicks a first round pick. Riley had year left on his contract and was negotiating with Heat before he resigned.
That was a pretty egregious violatino. Toronto would want something similar but this is not a severe tampering violation and compensation. I assume this would be first "permission to negotiate" and Toronto likely says "No".
Naturally Masai has to state he wants to go. Its now a divorce. Im my mind Masai should be forced to buy his way out, and knicks of course compensate accordingly. That's how its done in the NCAA. Second round pick is not much, but its something. IS there a precedent for this other than Riley?
martin @ 2/4/2020 1:11 PM
For reference, Knicks got 1 pick and $ for Riley going to Miami. Not same circumstance but Miami does that swap without thinking twice

this.. its like we have pay draft picks to ensure we dont do anything incredibly stupid for a year. They play hard under Miller. Flip Morris/Portis/Randle/Elf/Dotson/Ellington, play the kids and see what you got

Was that the year we drafted 3 SFs? Wallace/McCarty/I forget the 3rd

Hmmm, reading woj's tweets it seems like we already have someone lined up now (would explain the timing). Hope it's not hinkie

I agree. Give Perry a real chance. Why overpay for Ujiri? The team is bad but it has the flexibility to improve real quick with 2-3 wise moves.

And hopefully it’s not Durant’s agent.

Knixkik @ 2/5/2020 8:44 AM
I would rather get Presti for no compensation, but in a vacuum i consider it because they are the surplus of picks, not our own, and are likely lower first round picks.

Mis-read the post. If it’s the Dallas picks, then I have to consider it. We have our own picks, we have no idea what or if we get anything by the trade deadline. He’s not old, he’s successful and he’s good.

jrodmc @ 2/5/2020 9:07 AM
KP shows up just enough to help Doncic stay in the middle of the playoffs in the West. We keep the Dallas picks, and Perry/OrTheNextGuy ends up drafting a few mid-level shit projects that keep the board traffic flowing for 3-5 years. Or trades them in PF salary dumps.

We send the picks and Masai tells Jimmie to go fuck off in a corner and he gets us contending for a chip in that same time span.

A man can dream.

If Perry made some good moves this season, that put us in a good place going into the 2021 FA summer. I would be ok with Perry staying on as president. Mills was a suit, Perry is more of a bball guy IMO.

Back to the question. Yes I would give up the Dallas 1st rounders, if it meant getting Ujiri. Perry might turn out to be just as talented an exec as Ujiri. But Ujiri has a rep with stars that would take Perry years to build. That 2021 class is special. Playing in NY with one of best execs in the league (really) calling the shots could be a game changer. The advantage of Ujiri getting the job sooner rather than later is that Ujiri has more time to put the right people in place, to see how things are done at MSG, evaluate players, make changes, etc, going into summer 2021.
