Make him team president (43 yrs old) already has an impressive resume. Give him the open check book and draft picks and let him do his thing.. AND no compensation is needed for his services!!!!!

I think that has more to do with coaching
If we could get Presti without giving up draft picks, I would take him over Ujiri. We would have to give the Raptors at least one 1st round pick for Ujiri and Ujiri’s main claim to fame is hoodwinking the Knicks. If we had not been stupid enough to make those trades, would Ujiri be thought of as highly as he is?

I think highly of him for the simple fact that the Raptors are really good even though they lost Kawhi.

Might want to ask Clay Bennett what was his decisions vs. Presti’s. The man who writes the checks has a say. The underbelly of Durant’s exit might have been very strong language that he was not to be traded prior to his FA and any team that does likely won’t have any assurance of him signing there. What GS got in Russell was a bit of luck. GS had nothing to give OKC when that signing went down. Why Durant left in the first place? Was it the city? Chemistry with Westbrook? Or simply that he could.
They made the finals. Presti did a great job. They had a young Ibaka and the talent. Just not enough.

They got Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb, two first-round picks and a second-round pick for Harden and filler. I think they did well there.
KD..yeah...they got misled by the onion skin messiah. He read that situation wrong.
I also liked that he was able to replace KD with Paul George with some good moves.
The Paul George trade to the Clippers is just insane.
Presti is a competent GM. Lets not overrate him. Dude had Ibaka/Westbrook/Harden/Durant on the same roster and made one finals appearance which they lost. OKC has retained assets from trading those all star players and generally kept payroll reasonable, which has always put them in the middle of things but Presti was practically handed every FO's dream.

Isn't that the job of the head coach though? His job was to get the talent and he did a magnificent job. Now his HC hires is a little eclectic. PJ Carlesimo, Scott Brooks, Billy Donovan. Not sure how I feel about those coaches.

But please -- not enough talent when you have 3 MVP-types -- spare me. Yes could be coaching but he should have had a say in that and made a move too late. And could be team chemistry -- also his responsibility
but there's no denying that he didn't get commensurate return on two GREAT players.
There is no denying that he has drafted well when he's at the top or in first half of the draft.

Also on FO. i know Phil is a bit of a pariah now but he used to talk about awkwardness of team construction -- actually used that term when describing Melo and Stat combo
OKC had 3 ball dominant players. Perhaps with D'Antoni they would have found a way to utilize them (akin to his Houston approach) but they didn't have a team vision, or a coach aligned with that well enough.
FishMike's comment (in bold) will be Presti's epitaph
The Knicks need a president with a vision of where the game is headed, e.g., either where they can get value (e.g., prioritizing defense; always underpriced compared to swishes), or where the game is headed rules wise
they then need a GM who has an eye for talent who can get talent consistent with that vision
And they need a coach who has the "it" factor and doesn't screw up the good work the President and GM did
Ideally they would all respect each other, but that respect could also be generated/earned with success.
Someplace deep down inside i think these people will be boring, non-celebrities more like Mike Miller, Nick Nurse
I hope we don't go the route of an agent-turned-GM because FA is a dumb strategy when your team stinks (have to overpay)
I'm all for this as well but I bet Presti is against it. He just had to tear up his roster, his team is surprisingly in the thick of the race, and then he gets to spend all that future capital he acquired. If we had a 'GM game' where each poster got to call dibs on a franchise, OKC would be one of the first franchises selected because of all the assets coming to OKC over the next handful of years

Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying Ujiri is not a good gm. I just saying I would not give up 1-2 first round picks for him unless those picks were heavily protected.

if you look at the picks/drafts they had to work with its not that impressive. They had high picks in loaded drafts and quickly stocked a pile of top tier guys. At least w/ Uji he's got a record of drafting and signing under the radar guys who have been impact players. Presti made the right picks... you give him credit but look at his draft slots and the drafts he was in and lord have mercy they were lucky

I think that's a bit unfair. What he has shown is an excellent drafting ability AND a very good ability to develop talent. Also good at scouting other players talent. Leveraged the Clips desperation into one of the best trades an NBA team has made in recent times. I think he ticks all the boxes.

I would be happy with the hire! But he didnt pull those guys out of a hat. Ibaka is his crown jewel. Extra pick he got in a trade, late first rounder, cornerstone piece. Thats a great job. There's a bunch of less exciting stuff in there as well (like drafting Carl Landry which was great, then trading for junk)
