Knicks · Leon Rose? (page 5)

The last time the Knicks were any good all the important players came from CAA. also, the Warriors and Lakers hired former agents and I would trade our situation for theirs. This guy represented some of the best players alive. You do that by being able to sell and being able to identify young talent early. You don't make any money by representing someone AFTER they make their money. You get paid by representing talented players as soon as they're eligible. Then you hope they don't fire you before they sign their UFA deals. He could suck but even if he does I bet he is way better than Mills

Pelinka was nearly run out of town around the same time last year because of the dysfunction in LA. LeBron joined the Lakers because they are the best franchise in basketball. Also, Magic was the Prez at the time. I give most of the credit to LeBron and Paul for landing AD.

More rose colored glasses: yes his name is attached to a lot of infamous signings with the Knicks

But would Rose shyt where he sleeps?

this makes sense to me. Listing all of the clients of Rose and then making an extrapolation on bringing those players to NY isn't a one-to-one for me. The guy has to know how and what those players are doing.

TLover @ 2/6/2020 12:13 PM
So stupid.. this is the same reasoning in hiring Fizdale as coach.. thinking players will flock.. instead of building a team with an astute basketball mind..terrible
Chandler @ 2/6/2020 12:16 PM
More rose-colored glasses: Rose is more of a business man. He's telling players, and player-agents the following. Your salary is XXX +/- whereever you go (e.g., maybe capped, maybe market rate). Do you know how much more money you'll make in endorsements etc. if you help bring NYK back to relevance. None of that counts on the cap. You'll be rich and famous and living in NY and a hero. Whose going to offer that? Now to make this happen you're going to need to sacrifice a little because we'll need more than you to bring back glory...

go to the lakers? You'll be looking up at Magic, Kobe, SHaq, Lebron -- best case you'll be one of the usuals. Here you will be immortal. If you don't get a title there; you're a loser. Here make us relevant and you'll never have to pay a restaurant bill again

MS @ 2/6/2020 12:17 PM
Another disgrace.

Take your time interview people, gauge if Masii, Buford, Presti, Morey are available. They should have allowed Perry to sell the vets today and acquire draft picks to give the next GM ammo to play with.

Another hire with no experience. It’s amazing that you can be this incompetent.

You really need someone sooner rather than later. The question mark surrounding this would make a lot of things difficult.

If someone came in in June they'd have no time to settle in and would have to immediately figure out the ins and outs of the organization, draft prospects, free agents, etc. leaving little time to make clearer decisions.

I'm not saying he's the right choice. I'm not sure what to think. I can see some positives and certainly negatives.

Pros:

- Has insights and connections to NBA players' interests/needs
- Has relationships with players/CAA clients/agents that can lead to improving the chance of getting free agents or orchestrating trades for "disgruntled" players
- Not having been an exec of an NBA team could lead to new ideas (maybe he's shared some)

Cons:

- Never an NBA exec which can lead to several problems. One, especially, is knowing as a leader how to run an NBA team well when we've had such an awful way of running things for decades
- While being an agent is more valuable with trades and free agents rather than the draft and assessing talent
- May be more of a wheeler and dealer than assessor/identifier of talent
- Knicks have had a relationship with CAA for some time and it hasn't led to positive results on the court and could smell of a different brand of nepotism

Maybe we should've hired Paul hahaha Honestly, this move shows Dolan hasn't learned from his mistakes. I get it, agent relationships are vital. But are over reliance on forced agent relationships is part of the reason we're at the stage we are now. The willingness to gamble on guys with FO experience is the also a reason. Instead of learning from those past mistakes, we doubled down. It's like Dolan looked at the broad strokes and didn't really see why the idea of FO led by former agents worked in LA in GSW. This organization is needs an overhaul. Maybe the sell the team chants end for a few months, like they did when we hired Phil. I hope they do. I just don't see it.

I'm sure every agent tells their players that. Donnie Walsh gave LeBron the same spiel and LeBron laughed at him. I don't see how this really works unless the Knicks are blatantly tampering and, even then, that doesn't address the issues of roster construction and ability to compete. What good is all that earning potential when the team sucks?

I'm a fan of the quick hire if Dolan knows who he wanted. Nothing was going to change with Ujiri. What's the point of waiting until June to hire someone you want in Feb? Why not eliminate that uncertainty around the team and just hire the guy you want to get the new era of Knicks basketball started? I'm glad it saved us months of speculation.

The New York Knicks will hire Leon Rose as President of Basketball Operations.

Rose is a longtime agent and currently works for CAA.

Rose represents Carmelo Anthony, Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell, Devin Booker, Joel Embiid, Kyle Kuzma, Chris Paul and many other NBA players.

Ian Begley reports that William Wesley is under consideration to have a role with the Knicks. Rose and Wesley are longtime associates.

Wes has massive connects all over

omg like you know. WE are going to have a $150mm payroll full of CAA 30 year old retreads, make the 7th seed and amoebas like you will be dancing in the streets talking about winning culture

YUP. Lot's of fans are wetting their panties in anticipation of the next dumbstarfukk.

Simmons is a clown. We've already had years of advisement from "Worldwide." I congratulate him on the Ringer sale tho.

Was about to post this. Intriguing. One thing is clear - Rose and Wes have very large juice cards.

I'll try to explain why this could be good:

Agents are salesmen. They first have to sell themselves to the player to get hired. Then they have to sell the player to the team president and GM to get the player and himself paid. Then they have to recruit new players to start the cycle again.

A great Salesman is what this team needs.
Remember last summer we got no interviews with any top players.
Remember Donnie Walsh in a wheelchair pitching to LeBron.
We need a respected voice and a great salesman who can present the VISION and sell that vision to players.

Hey... maybe they do it right. There is zero body of work to go on. If we dont sell for an asset this afternoon then we know retardation has resumed as per normal

We got no players to sit down with us because we sucked. Kawhi's uncle actually wanted a sit down, but Pills realized that Kawhi wasn't going to turn down a good situation at home to come here. Agents aren't dumb. You're not going to look them in the face and convince that mound of crap is actually a giant volcano cake. We need solid basketball people to help us get to the point where we can sell this thing to top tier guys.

Just get the player and Leon Rose in the same room. He's got a track record of getting his man.

THIS IS A TOTAL DISASTER

indefensible

GustavBahler @ 2/6/2020 2:04 PM
One question. What the fuck does Leon Rose know about basketball? God forbid we hire someone with RECENT track record of success. Like hiring some asshole from McKinsey.
