Knicks · time for a new starting line up (page 1)

franco12 @ 2/27/2020 8:34 AM
I love Miller and I've advocated keeping him, but last night and of late, I am losing my enthusiasm for him and this team.

I only watched part of the game - caught a snippit of Hahn & Wally on the post game - and clearly the starting line up is not getting it done.

Barret looks like an embarrassment. A #3 pick and his impact on the game was what exactly?

Finally a Trier sighting and he proved he should be playing - and this is something that has nagged on me. I know Trier is a knucklehead. I know he is an iso specialist and maybe will never be able to be part of a team oriented offense. But clearly he can contribute.

Bobby Portis gets a lot of hate around here- and I know he is another knucklehead. But while he may not be a 1a kind of player, he is a great 2a player.

If I were miller, I'd go with this group for a stretch:

Harkless
Portis
Robinson
Trier
Payton

Randle is my big off the bench.
DSjr or Frank is my backup PG
And RJ Barrett and Bullock can back up the 2 & sf spots.

Now - chances those players get exposed as bench scrubs. But maybe it lights a fire under this group.

knicks1248 @ 2/27/2020 8:50 AM
Regardless to who starts or who finishes, these guys have no idea how to win ball games. Too many brain dead hero ball moments that kills any momentum. The spacing is far to inconsistent, and the line ups to start and finish is ( I hope this works).

Is Harkless a stretch 4 or something, why is he playing 25 minutes (guess knox sucks that bad that he can't even capitalize on Morris departure)

Nalod @ 2/27/2020 8:51 AM
RJ had a bad game. No need to pull him and mess his head. It happens. Rookies are inconsistent, especially teenagers.
Its more than just the starting line up. Change is not always good. Its a little late for that.
Trier shined last nite because he can get his own shot off. Devonte Graham ate him up. Not saying Trier was the reason we lost, but you give up defense and creating for others. Only Frank can cover him. BTW, few guards can, he super quick. Not blaming Trier.
Portis is hit and miss. He is fine off the bench and to finish when he is on.
Harkless seems to disappear.
Randle suffers because our back court suffers. He dribbles thru traffic when the offense breaks down.
We have seen better days from Payton then what we saw last night. To say Frank is our best PG is to say he good but can’t shoot. I get it, but his play was missed. Dennis issue I think is how to be a good player when he is not attacking. He is a very good penetrator, but NBA has other job descriptions.

At the end of the day we are not a very good team. Gotta just ride this one out. We knick fans, we used to it.

joec32033 @ 2/27/2020 8:59 AM
This is why our young guys don't develop. You dont swap them out and demote them like that. You need to let them play through these things. Now as horrible as he was, do you not yank him from the game-maybe for an extended period of time if not the game if he cant produce- to show him it is not acceptable? I'm good with that. But you dont just shuffle lineups.

Guys like Frank, Knox, Smith.. all these young guys keep getting pulled in and out of games just because....you need to make them earn their spot (Fiz had the right idea but worst execution ever). At the PG spot Payton is the best option. He has outplayed Smith and Frank. Just because Smith has a decent t game you dont swap out Payton. Bad teams stay bad because they don't have structure. Once a guy like Smith outplays a guy like Payton on a consistent basis, you make the switch and stick with it.

Problem with this team is no one has a role and everyone gets swapped out because they had a couple good games.

don't you mean time for a new roster?

LOL!!!!

I'll keep Mitch, RJ, bullock, and the only way i'll keep Randle is if we trade for CP3. I think he can have the same impact Kidd had on melo, and melo had (arguably) his best overall season playing with that kind of leadership.

GustavBahler @ 2/27/2020 11:20 AM
One bad game and Barrett should be benched? Really? I said in the game thread that it was his worst game as a pro. Most games, he's one of the steadiest players on the court, and he's a rookie!

Whenever RJ is off shootingwise, he usually has a strong second half. He's been playing physical ball from day one. Barrett showed he was NBA ready. Isnt a finished product, but already has shown enough for me to say that RJ was worth picking.

I'm genuinely surprised at Miller for playing Harkless so many minutes this early. We have too many guys who need to play and the departure of Morris was supposed to open up opportunities for our youth movement. Miller is playing to win and i appreciate that. But he needs to show some loyalty to HIS guys. Not just throw em away for the newest shiny object. He's at risk of losing the locker room by doing this. Maybe he doesn't care.

I think Mo is a solid vet and should start. But he's not prime Shawn Marion.. What does it say about our roster that nobody is capable of forcefully taking minutes away from him? Maybe certain guys can watch and learn. There'll be plenty of minutes to go around in the final weeks anyway.

Outside of last night game mitch robinson was committed stupid fouls and getting to foul trouble early if mitch robinson can stay out foul trouble then i don't mind him being the starter because he played great last night.

He is playing guys that may show he deserves a shot to coach. Here or elsewhere. Interesting to see the directive once Rose comes in. Think its time for the tank. Only Golden State has less wins then we do.

Would love to see more of

Mitch, Knox, RJ, Frank, Smith, Trier, Dotson, Iggy. Less of Randle, Payton, Mo, Bullock and Portis. The latter have proven to be what everyone knew them to be. Average NBA role players. Time to see which one of the youngins deserves another year. But no way that happens till the last two weeks. Unfortunately.

None of these guys deserve anything, earn it, or gtfoh..work on your damn game, after practice, after games, before practice..

what has tanking done for anybody in this franchise, has it help knox or frank, has it help trier, dotson or mitch, has it landed us a franchise talent.

Our tank leads to drafting avg role players, presidents and coaches getting fired, revamp roster every season that leads to another tank season..

Keep playing hard and smart, keep playing the guys that give you a chance to win every time you step on the floor.

agree 100%

though i wouldn't call it tank and wouldn't want people to lose on purpose. I would tell Miller you need to win with the young guys
