Definitely vanquish Payton, Portis and try to trade Randle. I suppose CP3 wouldn’t be complete boobery if we managed that (assuming we don’t draft a pg).
I’m worried now that Rose’s first moves will be trading for CP3 and signing Melo- that will be everything I feared when news leaked we were hiring him

It’s only 2 years now, so it could be worse. For me the issue is it indicates the wrong direction of travel (quick fixes, big names, screw the young guys and player development)
its not about CP3, its about the trade.
CP3 would immediately stabilize the team and make us better. He's been exceptional this year. High caliber PG would really help everyone on the floor. Especially if we draft a forward. CP3 is NOT a guy you give assets for. He's a guy you lump doodoo contracts in to save OKC some money. Like Portis/Randle/DSjr and one of those first rounders back. Not a lot of teams can take and be helped by CP3. Knicks are one of them. Its all about the deal. A good draft stacking the pipeline with athletic young and CP3 setting the tone could be a lot worse.

I'm not interested in giving assets, but not concerned about the 2 years left on the contract. Bottom line is we need to get better and CP3 is a vet that offers that. The CAA connection for Rose will have a huge impact this summer. That's why i'm saying Gallinari is a good bet. Also, if CP3 doesn't work out, grabbing Conley from Utah is another possibility because of the connection.

I am not interested in paying anything of value for CP3. But I am not necessarily against absorbing him. Ideally we would get a pick or two for paying that albatross. But the only thing worse about that contract is our roster's talent level
If its a pure salary swap then it wouldn't be to bad. Can't depend on FAs coming here so him having high salary for 2 yrs isn't all that devistating. Would buy time to shape the roster while having a PG that can make his teammates better. Would possibly be worth it just for RJ & Mitch development.
CP3 is also someone with a lot of weight being the players rep. Having him come here and him having a positive experience would go a long way towards how future stars views the Knicks.

Weirdly this season he’s been a great locker room guy and teacher, but before the season began there were a lot of articles claiming he was a terrible team mate and players hated playing with him

Rose should probably use this same formula that OKC is using if the deal does get done and he nets CP3. Sign Gallo, draft a PG to be mentored behind CP3. Utilize the draft pick PG, CP3 & Frank in multiple PG sets.
I think i'd rather max out VanVleet. As great as CP3 is and as much as he would help the team in the short term, it's a very short term.
If we were closer to having some talent, like when Kidd played lights out for us for a half of the year and helped us to the play offs- then it would make sense.
But I don't see it.
CP3 is a concept you do BEFORE he has a resurgent year. Not after.

Well said. This also wouldn't involve the Knicks sending out assets. Portis, Payton, Ellington etc. could be moved and give OKC cap relief. If the Knicks kept Randle, CP3 might be able to put a stop to most of his spin moves and looking off the point guards to advance the ball himself.

Paul would take a huge chunk out of our salary cap which would make us less flexible. Getting Paul here would no doubt cost us a 1st round pick. We should be in the business of collecting assets not moving them, at least not for a player who is past his prime. To make matters worse, I'm afraid that it stop with Paul.

Given how weak this draft is it wouldn't be a bad deal. I'd try and get Steven Adams too as compensation for the huge contract.

I think those that may be in favor of taking on CP3 think that the Knick would *get* a first round pick to take on his contract and then his presence would help accelerate the young players’ development at the same time ala SGA. RJ Frank sure would get helped IMHO and so would Mitch in the DeAndre role with CP3.
2 years isnt bad, but CP3's current numbers aside, how many times have we looked to aging stars for the answer? When has it paid off?
Paul being able to produce, stay healthy for the next couple of seasons, while eating up a big chunk of the cap is one concern. Paul playing well enough to get another big deal is another.
Would rather focus on a much younger PG. Its more than hype that the 2021 FA class is a big deal. Would rather wait.
I also wonder if this is Leon’s way of changing the conversation... if so kudos to him.

thats why im ok with it. A real PG would really help develop Mitch and RJ

Contract size aside, I view this more as bringing in a Jason Kidd type to captain the ship, don’t play more than 30 minutes a night versus being an all star savior.
If OKC got 2 first rounders and the right to swap 2 more 1sts for Paul - pretty sure we would net a first rounder in a trade to absorb. I think if we could try to snag another prospect like Terrance Ferguson than I would consider a deal. We keep trying to swing for the fences or (lately) completely take our lumps and "rebuild" with prayers that we will draft a transformational-type player.
Neither seems to work so maybe acquiring another pick, a young prospect and a veteran leader is worth the next two years of development. If Paul can help Frank, DSJr (if here) and/or a possible PG in this year's draft - that could really help us long-term. I'm not sure which Paul we would be getting (LAC, Hou or OKC vet), but it is reported he's been a good influence on the young guys at OKC. If I was OKC, I would hold on to Paul for at least one more year since they're competing at a much higher level than many would have thought after losing P.George last season.
