Each country had first case on same day?

We've had 362 in the last 24h with our population being roughly 1/5th of the US'. Death/positive cases ratio is almost at 6% due to lack of testing material and govt policy of only testing people with strong symptoms.

Brace yourselves and try and stay safe, it's going to sting for a while.

Some absolute morons across the world are in charge of this crisis

Meanwhile in Brazil:

Jair Bolsonaro claims Brazilians 'never catch anything' as Covid-19 cases rise

President suggests citizens may already have antibodies that help virus ‘not to proliferate’, as cases rise to nearly 3,000

Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro has tried to reassure his citizens over the threat of coronavirus by claiming Brazilians can bathe in excrement “and nothing happens”.

As Brazil’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 77, Bolsonaro scotched the idea Latin America’s biggest economy could soon face a situation as severe as the United States, where there have been more than 1,000 deaths and more than 83,000 cases.

This is how dumb we are

If things open up again for us - summer? late summer? - this will undoubtedly need happen in the fall/winter but on a larger scale, cause we are dumber.

How the fuck does the country do a census count during a corona virus outbreaks or have a national election?

In other good news, The USA, per capita, has a death rate from the Chinese Virus / Covid-19 Virus of 5 per million. https://www.worldometers.info/coronaviru...
For comparisons sake (We are 3 down from Iceland):

Stay safe and keep your immune system up. (e.g. Chaga mushrooms, Vitamin C, etc.)

This might be bad news
I’m scared this thing will now stick until we get some kind of cure. That could be two years or more
I was hoping that once a significant wave went through that there would be sufficient immunity to calm the jets. This is truly horrible.

It's grim. I think we're looking at year (possibly with a few cycles of lockdown>open up for a month or so> lockdown), but in the absence of a vaccine, hopefully in the next few months we figure out some effective treatments that negate the need for hospitalization. There are a few drugs they're trying out over the next few months, we really need to cross our fingers. If we can get an effective treatment, then things can start opening up before we have developed and mass produced vaccine.

The other big decider will be once we've started mass testing people for antibodies. Germany is planning to mass test a 100,000-500,000 random sample of the population to see how prevalent the antibody is in peoples blood. This is hugely important because it helps us figure out roughly how wide spread this thing is/has been. If it turns out that way more people had this and were asymptomatic, then we've really dodged a bullet- things can go back to normal much quicker as we should develop herd immunity.

However if it turns out that there hasn't been an especially vast amount of spread among the population then it's a going to be much slower fathoming a way out of this. The absolute worst case scenario is if people who have already have it don't really develop any lasting anti bodies and so can just get it again. Then we're really f****d.

Regardless of all that, these lockdowns are vital because they buy us time to:

-learn more about the virus
-learn more about the spread
-discover more effective treatments
-mass produce more medical equipment (ventilators, makes, etc), drugs and increase bed capacity
-mass produce tests and work out a much better system for identifying carriers (that will help us control the spread if we are stuck with it for over a year
-develop a vaccine

For now, the vaccine might be 18 months plus away, so it's better if we can focus on the results of the mass blood tests and also the outcome of the drug treatment trials to give us hope.

If you are not familiar with this drug, it has been used for decades for Malaria.

The FDA has not approved any off-label use of hydroxychloroquine re COVID-19. FULL STOP. Hydroxychloroquine is a Malaria drug, so far that's it. Trump has made some very misleading statements on these drugs, that's it.

I don't know who Dr. Vladimir Zelenko is and how it relates to usable information but let's err on the side of caution please.

I'd like to make sure we are posting relevant information that is backed up by sources, especially in the above context.

Thanks

Another blunder by Trump- when he comes out and says this stuff before it's even been properly clinically tested, it just leads to scarcity of the product and people panic-using it themselves leading to possible fatalities.
