Not many children being severely ill was the case for normal Covid. The Delta variant is a whole new beast.
"Seventy young patients ended up in treatment at CHNO during the 30 days ending Aug. 23. Prior to this summer, the hospital had never had to care for more than seven COVID-19 patients at a time, and usually fewer than that;"
“Our hospital system across Alabama is beyond capacity. Last week we had net negative ICU beds, and that’s pediatric and adult together,”
Remember Florida diverted a large amount of liquid oxygen used to treat their drinking water to hospitals and are still running short. Like Eric reminds people the same thing happened in India with the delta variant. When they ran out of oxygen everyone who would have lived if given time to heal while on supplemental oxygen also died. If you think the death numbers are bad wait until you see them if Florida runs out of oxygen. Hopefully our government helps Florida obtain some more oxygen.
It's still getting worse.

I keep expecting DeSantis to show up in orangeface. I mean, what else would be his next move?
Just got locked out of Twitter for 12 hours because I put out a satirical tweet that mocked the anti-Dasani crap that is now trending on Twitter while also mocking the magnetism/micro-chip vaccine BS...
Now I can take the dog to the park.
I don't even care about Dasani water...but it was amazing to see folks putting out conspiracy lies about it because some people put up alleged photos of it being left on the shelves even though all the other water was gone.
The text of my tongue in cheek tweet. I assume somebody read it and had no sense of humor.
I even included an article debunking the Dasani conspiracies going around.
Live and learn.
Being well hydrated is said to minimize the reaction some have when getting their Covid19 vaccine shots. My sources tell me Dasani water + the vaccine makes you more magnetic because of its added mineral profile and the injected 5G chip is more responsive. https://t.co/ufoAchN7MB

Conservative Anti vaxxers are dropping like flies.
While I feel bad for anybody who suffers/dies - their radio silencing will likely reduce all the misinformation being spread and probably save more conservative people's lives... let's hope so at least.
If you follow the link in this tweet there is a video there that is a good watch. The hospital gives death numbers that make me believe death counts in Florida even less. If this many patients have died from Covid in 1 hospital in a month time how is Florida death count not much higher. We have already had a whistle blower say they manipulate the numbers but it is even more clearer now. The video also shows how the hospitals are changing the way they do things to cope with being overloaded.
IMO there should be much more news coverage/video inside hospitals. And that should have been the case since March, 2020.
As far as 5x as many Republican voters, if true I’m surprised it isn’t a higher ratio.
I wish we also knew their primary news sources, and social media usage.

There are a lot more vaccine hesitant dems than people realize. A good portion of my neighbors fall into that group. I had to convince a lot of them that I did not die after getting the vaccine for them to finally get it. Older black people are extra hesitant due to what the government did to black people during the Tuskegee experiment.

Wow. Can you tell us what state you are in?

Partner is, in general, an anti-vaxxer at this point, but it has nothing to do with politics. I pushed her for a long time, and was able to serve as an example for her, since I had no reactions to the vaccine.
Her issue seems to be some the idea of long term effects.
My urging, and that of others, convinced her to get vaccinated. As a NY City teacher, she no longer has a choice, but she had gotten fully vaccinated well before the city's announcement.
Even if vaccinated and masked, working in a classroom with 25+ students in it, some/many not be vaccinated, is an unenviable task at this point.

My wife held out for a while. She is immuno-compromised and could have gotten the vaccine well before she did. After weeks of asking her to get the vaccine, she wouldn't budge.
We were watching Good Morning America one day when they gave a stat, something like 55-60% of Republican white males refusing to get the vaccine being the biggest demographic. Looked at her and said "Holy $%@#, my wife is MAGA!" She started looking for appointments later that day.
All that said, she's currently refusing a booster when we get to 8 months. Her concerns relate to her disease, as well as any effects that could impact potential pregnancy as we start looking forward. I'm not well-versed enough in the science to debate her on those specific points - last I've seen, there's not a ton of data there to reference. I'm just relieved we got her fully vaccinated at this point.
