Spectacular. I knew my job was making a good decision recently when they told us not to come back to the office this month, which had been the plan for a while.
However, I think they were anticipating maybe we’d return in a month or two.
Not a ****ing chance.

I wish we also knew their primary news sources, and social media usage.
There are a lot more vaccine hesitant dems than people realize. A good portion of my neighbors fall into that group. I had to convince a lot of them that I did not die after getting the vaccine for them to finally get it. Older black people are extra hesitant due to what the government did to black people during the Tuskegee experiment.
Wow. Can you tell us what state you are in?
Partner is, in general, an anti-vaxxer at this point, but it has nothing to do with politics. I pushed her for a long time, and was able to serve as an example for her, since I had no reactions to the vaccine. Her issue seems to be some the idea of long term effects.
My urging, and that of others, convinced her to get vaccinated. As a NY City teacher, she no longer has a choice, but she had gotten fully vaccinated well before the city's announcement.
Even if vaccinated and masked, working in a classroom with 25+ students in it, some/many not be vaccinated, is an unenviable task at this point.
My wife held out for a while. She is immuno-compromised and could have gotten the vaccine well before she did. After weeks of asking her to get the vaccine, she wouldn't budge.
We were watching Good Morning America one day when they gave a stat, something like 55-60% of Republican white males refusing to get the vaccine being the biggest demographic. Looked at her and said "Holy $%@#, my wife is MAGA!" She started looking for appointments later that day.
All that said, she's currently refusing a booster when we get to 8 months. Her concerns relate to her disease, as well as any effects that could impact potential pregnancy as we start looking forward. I'm not well-versed enough in the science to debate her on those specific points - last I've seen, there's not a ton of data there to reference. I'm just relieved we got her fully vaccinated at this point.
Glad she got vaccinated. MAGA shaming...good job. I guess she'll just have to have a discussion with her doctor about a booster, and go from there. Since her immuno-compromised issue didn't lead to any issues, that should be a positive thing, but people with more medical knowledge than me should be who she listens too.
Israel had a pretty promising study on Pfizer booster for people 65+...my category, but I'm not sure if it has been peer-reviewed yet.
I wasn't in the first wave of folks who got a vaccine. I did my hermit thing, masking, social distancing, and finally got my first shot in April after observing if there were any bad reactions, other than point of insertion soreness.
When I can, I will get the booster. Worried about my partner, as well as myself, as she has to be around kids in tight spaces and limited ventilation.

I think this ad influenced him a lot...
In Croatia, which is of course ridiculously small for some world terms (about 4 million inhabitants, but it should be said that there were a lot of foreign tourists over the summer), but we are talking about ratios, there are currently a total of 450 people in hospitals, of which 53 on a respirators. That is not any pressure on hospitals at the moment. But of course no one knows what autumn brings when people will hang out a lot more inside than they do now.
Vaccination is around 50% which is much less than the government had hoped although, as everywhere in the world, millions of doses of vaccine are available in stock. Most of the newly infected are infected with the delta variant, and the measures are generally much milder than in the USA.

not "free" - tax dollar funded.
As a medical doctor, I'm not sure that the vaccine(s) are the answer. I think that Covid may simply become a thing that we have to deal with forever. No one in leadership thinks this is going away soon.
It sure seems like biowarefare - a virus that does not kill enough people to "burn" itself out like Ebola, but causes enough damage to hurt the US and the world for generations to come - economically, socially and educationally - except for the country that it originated in - China.

Caseloads - what are you basing the above comments about impacting everyone but China on - medically? What makes you believe this is/could be biowarfare? What type of doctor are you? Sorry for all the questions - but have not heard any medical providers share this viewpoint so trying to better understand why you believe vaccines are not the answer and it could be hurting everyone but China.

The rest of the world except China seems to have been thrown into chaos. Have you not noticed? Borders closed, countries isolated, etc. Wealth disparities increased in the US dramatically during the pandemic. Society functions have changed, permanently - school, work, recreation.
You haven't heard the prominent leadership thoughts that this was released/got out of the Wuhan virology labs? Please, check the legit international news - not radical theorists.
I'm a medical doctor and researcher.
Are you a doctor? Other doctors have shared similar... e.g. Senator Paul Rand, MD
Regarding vaccines not being the answer - do you not see that less than a year into the "vaccines" that they are already calling for a "booster" shot? They knew that this would be needed from the get go, that's why the vaccine card from the jump had more than 2 lines to list the shots. What other "vaccines" that we get do we need to carry a card around for? We don't need to carry a card around for the influenza vax. Do you think that this is really going to end when everyone is vaccinated? Please.
jskinny35 wrote:Your defensive reaction that doesn't include any medical substantiated information tells me everything I need to know about your position - no more questions.
Yep, caseloads posts are a bit irresponsible as he's using the fact they're a doctor to imply greater knowledge about something he doesn't have any greater knowledge about (bio warfare) or the origins of the virus. People defer to Doctors, so you need to be careful, caseloads, when it comes to cashing in on that trust.
The reason China haven't been as impacted is because they have had much much greater restrictions from the start and clamp down and anytime there's an outbreak. They have the structures in place to be draconian, because they have quite an authoritarian policy state in place. Plus they have had a lot of experience of outbreaks (SARs etc) in the past, which is probably the reason why quite a lot of S.E. Asian countries (e.g Vietnam) have been more successful at tackling this thing up until recently (although the Delta variant will really challenge that).

Just because you're a doctor it doesn't mean you're any less susceptible to conspiracy theories or that your judgement when sifting through information is infallible (I come from a medical family, doctors can be a**holes and eccentrics too!). There are lots of theories but no proof (natural crossover from poor wildlife practices, deliberate leak, accidental lab leak, even a compromise- infection from gathering wildlife bat samples for the lab- ha!).
I don't even get some of the conspiracies- if you genuinely believe China deliberately released this as bio warfare, what exactly do you think they're doing not to be impacted by it as much and why have other countries had equal success? are they all in it together? Did New Zealand do a secret deal with the Chinese? Ridiculous.
The vaccine in itself isn't the answer (delta variant is so contagious it's changed that) but it's a big part of the solution, and at the very least significantly reduces the harm of the virus if it's around forever, and will save many many lives and reduce strain on the health services. From day one they said it would likely fade with time and likely require boosters, like other vaccines, so it's hardly a secret or new information- even one of the heads of Pfizer said hopefully it would last t least 12 months and require boosters back when it was first released. They also buy us time to develop better vaccines and treatments. No idea why you're comparing this to flu and flu vaccinations.

I call bullshit. More like some dude that read a couple of right wing medical extremist bullshit. Or maybe listened to Paul Rand a few too many times. No MD would be this ignorant to why vaccines are so important in an epidemic. Nor use Rand as an MD example. Claiming Paul Rand is a knowledgeable impartial doctor is like claiming Giuliani is an impartial knowledgeable attorney when it comes to election fraud. Claiming China has not been affected is ignorant to the past two years. This is the kind of idiotic talk fueling asian racism in the City.
Being a medical Docter might document your ability to understand medical knowledge but hardly makes anyone an authority on peripheral issues.
China recent retrenching of public companies reeks of a society trying to reel in massive corruption which might be stirring up the masses. Limiting amount of time an individual can game is hardly a lack of freedom but its a symptom of bigger problems. Yes, china is competing with us but destroying the economies of its biggest customers is not a mutual beneficial activity.
We live in a world where things we don’t understand or control get labeled as “conspiracy”. History is distorted by the truths we choose to believe. That makes many things inaccurate we come to believe. Start with the Bible.
It is what it is thus it must be true as so many believe.
"As a medical doctor, I'm not sure that the vaccine(s) are the answer."
> Are vaccines stopping the delta and mu (resistant to current vaccines) variants? Answer: no, vaccines are not. I never said that vaccines could not help, but vaccines will not "stamp" this virus out and make it go away like you may think that vaccines might. The virus is much more resistant, and it is mutating in manners that are becoming worse, not more benign. We are in the beginning of this still it seems.
"I think that Covid may simply become a thing that we have to deal with forever. No one in leadership thinks this is going away soon."
> These are facts, period. I was hoping that this was going to mutate into something benign and go away, but it's not.
"It sure seems like biowarefare - a virus that does not kill enough people to "burn" itself out like Ebola, but causes enough damage to hurt the US and the world for generations to come - economically, socially and educationally - except for the country that it originated in - China."
> If you don't think that there is a high likelihood that COVID came from the lab in Wuhan where China was doing gain of function biowarefare research into coronaviruses, I'm not sure what to tell you.
> China does not appear concerned about individual citizens.
** Everyone is free to look at the data and use their skillsets to come to their own conclusions.
** I am not going to respond to anything else, although some of the responses are very concerning in nature, and a deviation from my initial post.
- "Seems" -based on what? Unless you're an virologist and are remarking about this virus/strain's unique traits to only impact certain countries (vs others) then you really are spreading misinformation.
"If you don't think that there is a high likelihood that COVID came from the lab in Wuhan where China was doing gain of function biowarefare research into coronaviruses, I'm not sure what to tell you."
- don't know where it came from and will wait to see what is actually proven factually true. If we agreed on your conclusion that it did come from China for argument's sake - how do you then go from that belief to China did this with malice/intent to harm everyone else around the world? Does this also mean you believe that China purposely sacrificed their own (many died in China as well)? Even if everything you said were eventually proven true - you have no basis to claim this is correct at present time. So why say things like this?
"China does not appear concerned about individual citizens."
- From your personal observations, your feelings or is there anything factual/provable to substantiate this position? I'm asking because to many of us it seems racist and/or conspiracy based so this is the benefit of the doubt where you can explain yourself. Otherwise please stop with this crazy talk.
