Was this a good thing, bad thing, or just an interesting one?
From the way they presented it, and the people they interviewed. He did a great job. He was a republican that hired democrats for his staff when he noticed in the first year that it wasn't working. He was a republican that cared about the climate. They also showed his warts. His smoking tent was pure genius. He learned how to be a politician really quick. He made sure that if he won something against the democrats he would be gracious and let his opponents grand stand and he would be a gracious loser when he gives in to their policies. He is really a very impressive man. One of the things I really liked was in the end. He said you can call him anything you want just don't call him a self made man. He said he had a lot of help.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities in Nevada confirmed Tuesday that they served a search warrant this week in connection with the long-unsolved killing of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Shakur was fatally shot in September 1996 in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. He was 25.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the search warrant was executed in the nearby city of Henderson. The department did not provide further details on the search, citing the open investigation.

Rest in Peace

Tony Bennett, the master pop vocalist who had a professional career spanning eight decades
with a No. 1 album at age 85, died on Friday morning in New York City. He was 96.

Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, but had continued to perform and record through 2021.

His peer Frank Sinatra called him the greatest popular singer in the world. His recordings – most of them made for Columbia Records, which signed him in 1950 – were characterized by ebullience, immense warmth, vocal clarity and emotional openness. A gifted and technically accomplished interpreter of the Great American Songbook, he may be best known for his signature 1962 hit “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”

He was equally at home in front of intimate combos (which often featured his pianist and longtime musical director Ralph Sharon) and lushly arranged orchestras. Though never strictly a jazz singer, he flourished in jazz settings, and cut memorable sessions with Count Basie’s big band and the lyrical pianist Bill Evans.

Just got home from watching Oppenheimer. 👍👍👍👍 And that's leaving out that one Florence Pugh sex scene. 😍 Three hours but I never felt that the film was bogging down. Interesting character study and Cilian Murphy was up to the job. I feel he was underrated actor, but not after this. It's easy to forget that Tony Stark is a good actor, but Robert Downey Jr. does wonders what he was given. I liked Tenet, but this is easily one of Nolan's best movies in a long time.

Going to check it out. Aside from the Batman trilogy, "Interstellar" is the only one I enjoy rewatching. Resonated for me more than his other films, which are more dispassionate IMO.

I was in HS, and the social studies teacher showed us a video of Oppenheimer quoting the line " I have become the destroyer of worlds ... '. It was like 1985 and my entire class looked around and shook their heads. A South Bronx school with students who were very tough and seen a great deal of things before they should have, where this topic was introduced without preparation by the teacher elicited empathy and pity for the old man speaking. I remember guys and girls who immediately read Oppenheimer's face and said " He looked so tired and sad ". That he must have experienced so much guilt in his life, but that he seemed like a good man. I remember my first introduction to the man and hope to see the film tonight, with my wife and daughter who wants to see it very much. May we all be spared the use of weapons that are 100xs stronger today

Saw Oppenheimer, don't think the film lived up to the hype. It felt every bit of the three plus hours. The musical score didn't let up, it was constantly not in the background enough trying to create a sense of drama that the subject matter should have been sufficient to do so. The constantly naked appearance of his former lover seemed gratuitous and the emphasis on the politics versus Oppenheimer versus a more developed character study of his person was off balance. Didn't hate it but I guess I wanted a more fleshed out depiction of his life and insights. I came away thinking that Oppenheimer wanted to play the guy who wants to claim he was just following orders and wasn't responsible for the bomb. Scene were President Truman said " The Japanese are not asking themselves who invented the bomb but who used it " was something else. Good film but not best film, for me

Go see it for the Naked scenes and you might agree with me. The scenes just seem to forced in. What to show skinny nuclear scientist can get laid ??? We already seen they can buy watching seasons of the Bing Bang Theory. We get it scientists are hot

I could watch an entire "movie" of Florence Pugh getting naked and doing things. I thought the juxposition of those scenes served a role in showing how Opi dealt with consequences. They also did a good job of playing out the inner thoughts of certain characters. Also, and I didn't know this going in, Oppenheimer was quite the ladies man in his day. I think one of the ideas the film plays with is whether Oppenheimer is real scientist or just a charming snake oil salesmen. I gotta say, I felt the three hours moved through quickly. I thought the final arc was going to kill me going into it, but I felt the payoff. The story, for me anyway, isn't about the creation of the bomb, but it's ramifications on the micro and macro level.

The film was ok for me. I saw some documentaries about him I enjoyed better. The film attempted to dramatize some things using the score, and story lines and thought they could have done it better. It just seemed they tried to hard using nudity in some scenes which obviously was awkwardly juxtaposed with the rest of the film. I get it just that it's not a film I would see twice. I'd recommend a documentary about the man before this film, however.

Plus the film managed to not directly reflect the human suffering it caused human beings and civilians. Seemingly in the way the scientist sought to shield themselves from how their research was directly tied to that in their own arguments. A scene of the scientists grimacing as they watched news from the bomb victims was shown.

I absolutely want to read the book the movie is based on. I suggest people do that in most cases. All the president's men was a great movie, but I think the book gave me more insight. That said, I disagree about the film not directly reflecting the human suffering their creation caused. Some scientists were able to move on while others were definitely haunted by it. I felt the subplot between Oppenheimer and Teller directly addressed this divide. There were other instances I can't go into without spoiling the movie, but I felt Nolan fell just short of clubbing viewers in the head with this.

Not a black and white issue and I don't wish to derail the point of this thread too much, but it is very possible even likely that just in the instance of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, they may have actually limited the amount of suffering that would have occurred in an invasion of Japan - both for the Japanese and American forces. It's also possible with the genie out of the bottle the reality and horror have prevented further use in combat. If one is to put themselves in the mindset of Americans in 1945 there would have been outrage if we didn't use it. Perhaps also worth mentioning is the amount of human suffering the Japanese government and military caused.

Not saying it was a good thing and I pray it isn't unleashed again, but not to be painted with a broad brush as revisionist history tends to do I suggest.

That argument that we the US was trying to prevent further losses from a invasion, how true was that ? I always accepted it, but why would we have had to invade ? We could have kicked the Japanese out of China, Korea, and the Philippines and done an embargo of Japan and pulled out remaining forces. The bombs were detonated to punish the Japs and to scare the Russians, Id argue.
