Knicks · Would u give Christian Wood 3 years 66 mm (page 4)

Looks like salary cap is going to be lowered quite a bit next year — perfect tine to offer the full 4 year max contract @ 30 % to market

Woj said the league and players will likely negotiate how the hit will actually happen (will they smooth it out over a few years, will they temporarily reduce the luxury tax etc). Also be careful, you're assuming the finances will bounce back in a year or two- they might not, there could be years of decline.

He is really light. 20m seems like a huge risk. You could kill the team for 3 years if you miss

Agreed about the risk. But, Wood is a better prospect than Portis and seemed to be on an upward trajectory. Also, Wood's PER is @ 23 this season while Portis is sitting @ 15....

Honestly Ingram might not deserve that Max contract in a vacuum...... then the Knicks got to hope for one more year of dysfunction for 2021 and a good pick and that is a STRONG Knicks core, even better when 2022 is a deep draft as well.

Ball/Tyrese/Hayes
RJ
Ingram
Randle
Meech

That is a great team. If they can add Cade or one of the Jalens in 2021 then they have a Championship core and a decent bench at a good price. So Ingram needs to be seen as arguably the best FA the Knicks might get in the next few years. I would move Randle for some investment stuff and go for it.

Honestly, I would have said the Pelicans match anything offered before Corona but a legit Max might make them blink.

It’s not too far off from where Ja Morant was about a year ago! He’s still skinny now but he was really skinny then!

Consider some of these young players who are up for max deals soon - which ones are worth it?

What’s D’Angelo Russell worth? Imagine in an alternate universe where he’d been available for us during the draft. Assuming the same development over the years (tough to assume that with the Knicks!) would we have offered a max extension?

Well, let’s say the Warriors are willing to let with him. What’s he worth to us?

I don’t know much about Christian Wood, but he looks like a beast, particularly after Drummond was shipped out. He seems like he offers a lot of what we want out of Mitch’s development, but then if difference is that the development is already done.

We don’t know if Mitch is gonna get there.

Powerful combo with Zion and Ingram playing inside and out.
I realize it will take a big contract to pull him from NOLA. I get the upgrade and agree but One has to look beyond and see the possibilities.

Reminds me of when someone posted this years ago:

Did we ever get an answer if that was photoshopped or just a trick of the light?

I thought the flu made him starve away all his games.

Ha, I remember when he followed up getting the flu in time for the playoffs, by getting the flu at exactly the same time the following year--I was so annoyed!

BRIGGS @ 8/20/2020 10:03 PM
He becomes my number 1 priority. No big man in draft--so an athletic 3 level scorer at PF next to Mitch.
