Just thought a fresh discussion on LTP for a change. Forget where i read that "Leon is a basketball guy first and successful in business". Im thinking part of his success is talent evaluation on both on and off the court. CAA had its talent guys, dudes like World wide Wes and a network he relied on. Calipari was part of that. If less guys going into NCAA make it harder to or less fun for a guy like Coach Cal maybe he would make his move to knicks. I'd like him and Miller be his assistant if possible. Im not a Cal fan but there is a reality that his chops are decent and he is charasmatic. Im a loyal kind of guy so keeping miller is out of respect for the work he has done.
As for GM, there is the weird aspect of the current scenario which makes keeping Perry on for at least a while important. We as fans usually determine a guy based on performance and his as an assistant and other roles don't give us much. Seemingly his reputation in the league is good so I'll go on LTP's judgement. If he respects him and thinks going forward this is his guy I have no reason to hate on the guy just because he worked with Mills. LTP has worked negotiated with many GM's over his career and I'd think he has a good acumen to determine a respect for that occupation. LTP hires Perry thats a good enough endorsement for me.
Something tells me Berman checks in with social media to get the pulse of the fans who read his stuff. I suspect we might be one of his stops. If so then its ok to say that I get he has to write something in this the strangest of times, but its horseshit. I posess enough humilty to say I don't know what else he'd write and kind of feel bad for the guy!
The fact that Leon has not replaced Mills yet strongly suggests that he is going to keep Mills on until the draft. If that is the case, I hope he keeps Perry for the next year. It simply would make no sense to have a lame duck GM going into the draft and then fire him after the draft. That is what they did with PHil Jackson and it was a move that set use back because if Perry was here, we might not have signed Timmy Hardaway to that bad contract. I like Perry and would like to see him get another year without the influence of Mills. The fact that Dolan fired Mill and not Perry speaks volumes.
I think your first sentance you meant "Perry", not Mills as he is gone. Fact is the season is not over and firing a GM when the president is brand new to the team would make for a very awkward transition going into the draft.
Perry's contract is about done and fact is he might have set in motion a process to look at other opportunities which he should. It creates leverage if he is in demand. Is he? Fans have a different set of guildlines and little true information as to what his positions have been. Fact is he has been assistant GM without final say. Thus its not just on him. With Knicks he has not been on the job that long and the little he has been associated with has some positives. Leon has had a long time to ponder his fate.
Is Allan Houstan next in line? Maybe. Nothing to be excited about either way. If so I'd think that was determined before LTP took the gig and is ok with it. Think Leon would give up his CAA gig and not have all his based covered with Knicks?
