Read the article above about bringing a star to the Knicks, none of the proposed scenarios were overwhelming for me apart from maybe Chris Paul to mentor a young pg. any other trade proposals suggestions? I know this is largely pie in the sky until the FO really evaluates what we currently have. But ideas / suggestions welcome...

jrodmc @ 4/23/2020 11:30 AM
Get Chris Paul and don't trade Frankie. I'm buying that one, all day, everyday. Beats spending cap money on 15 third level forwards.
Zach Lavine for essentially Knox and a 1st rounder? I'm buying that one too. Especially if it involves ending the DSJr sad saga here.

Haven't watched much of Terry Rozier, so no comment.

Love, Drummond, Griffin? Pass

Allanfan20 @ 4/23/2020 11:40 AM
Every single guy jrodmc just mentioned are people I would pass on. Stay away at all costs, including Levine. He plays very lazy too frequently.

There's 2 young players that i would go hard after

D Fox currently on the Kings -DSJ, 1st and 2nd round pick

Brandon Clack currently on-grizzlies-mitch and iggy

Rozier is a star? I would pass on all of those deals. Draft well, pick a rfa to offer a poison pill type deal to, let Payton, Portis, Wayne and Taj walk and if nothing shakes out with a trade for a good star use 20-21 as another developmental year. Next season is almost guaranteed to be a shortened one (50 games?) and the 21 draft class is supposed to be really good.

This

CP3 was ok because we give up no assets (though I bet they would ask for Knox or a 1st in real life cause they aren’t actively shopping CP3)

I like the Zach Lavine one. That would be a legit upgrade and he does seem tired of the Bulls.

I agree that all the deals are suspect, and it's not that we don't draft well, we sucked in the development dept..BIG TIME

This is a franchise that can not develop a slew of young players (we already saw that disaster) this is a franchise the can take 2 or 3 promising young payers and surround them with veterans like the 2012/13 roster.

jskinny35 @ 4/23/2020 2:38 PM
Wow - those 5 trades were terrible. Almost all of them are not actually stars but players with potential to be (Z.Lavine), or players that once were (Griffin, Paul). Only one that makes me sniff is C.Paul b/c of what he could do for our losing culture and it's unlikely we can draft Ball or a difference maker/star PG. I'd rather swing for Lauri Markkanen as he spreads the floor and (if healthy) could blossom. Zack next to RJ seems like not enough outside shooting for the wings. Even C.Wood at the right price would be better as he plays defense. We really need to try to eliminate any players that don't either excel or play very hard defensively. Culture won't change if 1 or 2 starters play relaxed on defense...
Allanfan20 @ 4/23/2020 2:43 PM
Going after Lavine is something Isiah would have done. All of those trades were Isiah like trades.
Nalod @ 4/23/2020 2:46 PM
Bill Simmons podcasts are still pretty good listens on long walks out of the house.
He had a good line "Minny got Russell is like a having a baby to save a marriage".........And we know that don't work!
His take is Towns might be the next "disgruntled". Minny as a franchise is bloody awful! You give them Randle, Knox, Iggy, this years first (we'll know where it is soon enough), and one of dallas'. Throw in Dennis if it helps. I see towns as a stretch 4. Front line of with RJ and Mitch.
Im keeping Frank jus to piss off the Rainman.

CP3 as mentor? Im really not paying much for him. He is 34 with a god awful contract. The fact he had a great season means he is that much closer to an empty tank.

At the end of the day no need to chase a trade. Teamns and players know Knicks are able to deal. Player has to force his way here and we can't over pay. Seen that movie before and it don't end well.

Melo forced his way here. We totally had the upper hand. Somehow, someway, we still decided to give everything to Denver because Dolan had zero patience.

Overrated Bulls player...... that does sound like Isiah.

Looking at Lavine - offensively boarder line all star. Shot selection and defensively poor. Maybe pairing with Frankie in backcourt could help on D? I’m not high on Rozier. Devonte Graham looks the better pg option in Charlotte.

Agreed, Love & Griffin past their best for me. Drummond would prevent Mitchs development too much.

Yeah would love D Fox, absolute speedster in the open floor and has really improved with running an offence. Impressive numbers - PTS 20.4 / REB 4.0 / AST 6.8 / PER 20.40. Another realistic guy I would go for is Josh Okogie @ MIN. Athletic freak, great two way wing player, only 21 yrs. No clue how we’d get him though!

TheGame @ 4/23/2020 5:13 PM
These are just five very bad trades. None of them make sense. Rozier is a so-so pg and we likely will draft a pg this year. Paul’s 44mil next summer is a non-starter as it would hurt our chances in 2021 free agent pool. Griffin stays hurt so why trade for him, and IMO Mitch is a better center prospect than Drummond at a fraction of the price for the next two years. I would pass on all these deals. I would focus on getting a mid-level guy that perfectly fits what we need, such as a defensive SF that can also score. Rose should have patience and let these kids continue to grow.

Melo had a player option, looming lock out, needed surgery. If he went free agent he has surgery and if it goes bad, he is out.
My take is he was going to Nets if not Knicks. No way he was going free agency.

BRIGGS @ 4/23/2020 10:52 PM
Chicago isn’t trading Zach Lavine for a pile of Knicks sht. He’s not going anywhere

The Knicks aren’t getting high tier players for picks 27 or future Dallas 25 picks

Kevin Knox and smith are worth second rounders —- maybe.

With revenues down small market teams are going to get squeezed...he takes up a third of the cap with 2 yrs to go....they gotta pay Shia...and they want to be able to make some moves.....they will throw in a pick to make that deal....

Griffin / Aldridge / Derozen instant passes. Only one for me is Beal (27yrs ) but that means you give up RJ.
