So we essentially swapped players with the Nets. I'm pretty sure Iso Zo is going to play with his man in NJ. I wonder if it came down to Trier or Dot in the end.
martin @ 6/26/2020 6:09 PM
whoa, this is a bit of a shocker.
Uptown @ 6/26/2020 6:24 PM
Can't lie...I'm a little sad about this. Zo was one of my favorite players on the team. He was a dog and no moment was ever to big and I loved that about him....It's a shame wouldn't find a spot for a player that was one of our best shooters.
NYKBocker @ 6/26/2020 6:25 PM
Wow. I like Zo. Wish him the best.
NYKBocker @ 6/26/2020 6:27 PM
Hmmmm. Just looked at his 3P %age. No bueno

Seems like a no-brainer especially when you consider the clout that KD has over there...

GustavBahler @ 6/26/2020 6:32 PM
Surprised as well. Thought Trier might be traded, not waived.
Uptown @ 6/26/2020 6:41 PM
There had to be something going on behind the scenes that we were not aware of. He was too talented to sit as many games as he did on this team.

I just found an old issue of SI with a preview of the 2017-2018 college basketball season. The section on Arizona featured Trier as the game changer on the team, not DeAndre Ayton.

Alas, Ayton seems to gone out of favor with fans too, despite beefy stats (19ppg, 12rpg, 1.7bpg, 55%FG)...

He wasn’t signed to CAA

Ayton got that PRD suspension, came back and the season ended. It was a disappointing season for sure, but I think the fans are still high on him. It's just that Luka thing is going to haunt him for the rest of his career. Also, I think Trier on-court decision making takes a lot of the blame for why that team underachieved. That said, I'd probably take Trier 15/10 over Punson on talent. I wonder what will come out

Three reasons to like what the Knicks did today:

1. Trier's cap hold is gone. He would've been a RFA. Knicks cap room +2.7mil
2. Trier's me-first attitude (which kills locker room chemistry) is gone
3. Pinson is by all accounts a great chemistry guy

A reason not to like it

1. Pinson isn't good

While I guess we can never know, I just have to think this team could have turned Trier into a second round pick at the trade deadline. I never understood why they did not trade him. The guy was shooting like 38% from 3. It is a missed opportunity.

You're right, we don't know if there was a team that was interested in making that deal. We also were in a GM flux at that time so who knows if we were in a position to make the deal. Happy we got the 1st for Morris. That was the priority.

I'm only mildly surprised. Something was up last year. Even with his tunnel vision he deserved more minutes. Somewhere along the way the staff royally soured on him.

And even if selfish on the court, i thought he was a good teammate on the bench. None of the DSJ sulking or drama

Would love to know the skinny

This doesn’t appear to be good business. Mindful both kadeem & now zo both goners. I’m concerned that their effective replacements seem to suck.

Tier must have done something that pissed the Knicks off, because his had too many skills to ride bench like he did. As you noted, even with his selfish playing, he was too good not to get 5-10 minutes a game and honestly he seemed to be passing slightly more this year. His defense was still so-do but still something we don’t know about must have happened. I think Trier will go to a team like the Spurs and thrive and we will be wondering in a few years why the Knicks did not develop him. But even beyond that, I just cannot believe they could not trade him for a second round pick.

Just trying to increase cap space here
KnickDanger @ 6/27/2020 12:27 PM
As is being pointed out it's about the cap mostly. To some fans he is worth $5 million, to the FO his overall value (abilities and attitude included) vs the $5 mil plus the addition of a player you're more into...well there you have it. I would like to have seen someone with his ability develop more but ultimately that is mostly on him.
